I just listed a charming home in the very cool city of Peekskill. My love for older homes, gastronomy and local history is sated here in Peekskill; put me down at the river at sunset, with a bottle of red, and I am quite satisfied.
As I was driving home last night from a new listing at 311 Depew Street, one of those charmed filled colonials Peekskill is known for, and hey, by the way, did you know Depew Street is named after Chauncey Depew a US Senator in the 1860’s? Last Thursday at a Chamber meeting, I met a local woman, Deb Carlin, who is passionate about the book “The Wizard of Oz”; she spoke to us all about Frank Baum, the author, who lived in Peekskill for several years as a teenager in the 1860’s. The past two years I have celebrated the 4th of July at the Peekskill Riverfront and had a blast with friends and friends of friends. Several of us got there a bit early to secure a spot near the river for perfect viewing and a breeze to take the edge off the heat. Last year's evening was hastily put together with emails, texts, and who is bringing what....you should have seen the spread of culinary delights! This weekend I spent an afternoon in Peekskill and took advantage of a tour offered by Peekskill Arts Council to visit many of the art studios in downtown Peekskill. It was the 13th Annual Open Studio tour for the benefit of local residents, art lovers, artists and simply the curious! An annual event that gives give us all an opportunity to see many artists and the diverse work that is being created in our backyard.
