home buying idaho: Ziplining in Horseshoe Bend
- 06/18/19 05:55 PM
Go Ziplining in Horseshoe Bend This was an exciting activity for us, because Michael and I have never been ziplining before! So of course, like I do with any and all first-time activities in Idaho, I had to add it to the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See.
First of all, we did this through Zip Idaho, a company based in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho that provides a unique eco-adventure that combines tree based canopy-tour style zip lines with lines up to 2000 ft. They are conveniently located just a half-hour north of Boise on Highway 55. Michael and I (2 comments)
home buying idaho: Camping in McCall, Idaho

Camping in McCall, Idaho Outside of Boise but still close enough to drive there in two hours, McCall is one of the best places to live and play. I know because I lived there for a couple of years in the mid-late1980s when my son Jonathan was born. Since then, I have been going back to visit on weekends and holidays as it is one of the most popular lake towns in Idaho. It’s a beautiful lake/resort town that offers the best activities, scenes and charm of Boise, but smaller, quieter and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and that’s (0 comments)
Have you ever wondered what those baskets with yellow tops and chains are at your local park? Perhaps you’ve seen a group of people throwing what appear to be frisbees at them? Well if you don’t know, like I didn’t, they are playing a round of disc golf!
The Game:
Fortunately for me, I grew up watching my dad play golf, and then he taught the game to my son at an early age, so since Disc Golf is just like golf in terms of scoring, it was an easy comparison in terms of rules, strategy and language. For those (2 comments)
"Stand-up paddle-boarding, which requires participants to propel themselves across the water with a paddle while standing on a surfboard, has been growing in popularity around the country in recent years. And for those who like the idea of mixing a cardio workout with water but don’t want to count laps in a pool, there are many opportunities to try this sport" ~ The New York Times
SUPing is one of the fastest growing outdoor recreation activities in the world today, and that’s why it makes the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See. SUP boards are different than (1 comments)
The Boise Foothills rise above Idaho's Capitol and largest city, providing a postcard-worthy backdrop that inspires and soothes the soul. An interconnected network of roads and trails courses through these hills, linking not only neighborhoods with public lands but also connecting people with the natural environment. With over 130 miles of trail, there is definitely something for everyone, and because of that, this versatile and accessible trail system makes the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See.
I’ll tell you specifically where we went, but if you leave a comment (1 comments)
The City of Boise has many things to boast about, but few can compare with the quiet charm of the Julia Davis Park. The story behind Julia Davis Park begins in 1862 when two orphaned brothers, Tom and Frank Davis, joined with a group of 75 men in Cincinnati, Ohio, and headed west hoping to strike gold. As an early Boise pioneer, Tom Davis helped lay out the blueprint of the city and owned and developed thousands of acres of agricultural property.
Julia McCrumb came to the Boise Valley from Ontario, Canada, to visit relatives in the summer of (0 comments)
Even though I honestly hate that the rest of the country recognizes Idaho as the “potato state,” I also have been hearing about how much fun this race is for a long time, so I decided to do it. Plus, the course runs along the green belt, one of my favorite resources and activities in Boise, and it gave me a good excuse to run one more half marathon – the second I ran last year. So, all of those things combined for a great reason to add it to the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things (1 comments)
The Discovery Center of Idaho (DCI) is all about inspiring a lifelong interest and learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Michael and I have both been to the DCI before, and so has Jonathan, but we have not been there in years. Jonathan loved coming here as a young child, and it has only gotten better over the last two decades. In fact, the Discovery Center now offers “Adult Nights,” which we quickly found out are a way for adults to play and explore over 150 hands-on exhibits along with the fun, interactive learning DCI (0 comments)
I mentioned this in an earlier blog about Disc Golf, but I grew up watching my father play, and he taught the game to my son Jonathan who still plays regularly today, so I have been a player/enthusiast my entire life. I can’t remember the last time I played a round of golf that wasn’t for a company outing or charity, and between a warm-up bucket of balls, lunch and drinks afterward - it’s a full day activity, and an expensive one at that! That being said, depending on when and where you choose to play, (0 comments)
home buying idaho: Check Out The Zoo Boise
- 03/19/19 05:09 PM
Check Out The Zoo Boise Michael and I have both been to the Zoo before, many times over the years actually and so has Jonathan, but it’s been awhile since the last time we were there. Jonathan loved the zoo a young child, and it has only gotten better over the last two decades. In fact, the Zoo Boise is one of the best zoos on the West Coast alongside the San Diego and San Francisco Zoo’s. And because of that, and its cultural impact on the City of Trees, I had to add it to the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 (0 comments)
At only 6,525 Ft., Boise Peak is not a large mountain by Idaho standards but is does offer a fun and rewarding climb that's close to Boise. This mountain is part of the Boise Mountains’ foothills that form the backdrop to Idaho's largest city. Because of its proximity to Boise, the foothills see a lot of traffic, and because of that, this beautiful hike makes the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See.
Most of the land in the lower foothills is privately owned, while the land in the higher hills is managed by the (0 comments)
This past season, the Morrison Center was named the #1 University Presenter in the Nation for live entertainment in its category. Whether it is the Boise Philharmonic, Ballet Idaho, Opera Idaho, The Cabin, Boise Music Week or many other productions and activities that we support, there is truly something for everyone at the Morrison Center. And like I said in an earlier blog, Michael and I have loved the Boise Philharmonic and Ballet Idaho for years, so it’s only natural that we would love the Morrison Center.
The versatility of performances combined with the fact that it (0 comments)
When Michael and I started dating, we used to go to a lot of Boise Hawks games and grab a hotdog, a couple of beers and watch some good ol’ baseball. Hawks games were also a great way for Michael and Jonathan to initially bond and get to know each other better. Since then, the Boise Hawks MiLB have only grown and become more popular in the Treasure Valley, and the excitement around the team the last few years has been pretty crazy.
To keep the Boise Hawks game experience new and exciting, they are constantly (1 comments)
Stage Coach Theatre is enjoying it’s 33rd consecutive season in the Treasure Valley. The Stage Coach Theatre (SCT) is a quality-driven performance organization dedicated to producing live theatre that reflects and celebrates the human spirit for, by and accessible to the community. The theater produces live plays from all genres including comedies, dramas and musicals. SCT produces eight productions per season, all with volunteers from the local community.
Like I said, SCT has been a staple in the Boise community for over three decades, and if you are into live theatre, this is the place you (0 comments)
Boise is fast becoming a Craft Beer Mecca in the mold of Bend, Oregon and San Diego, California. Unlike the rest of the country where Craft Beer Sales hover around 14% of the market, it is double that here in Southwest Idaho. One of the big advantages of being a Craft Beer Mecca is that we attract great beer from around the country. Breweries are taking notice and they are distributing their beer in Boise.
When deciding on which breweries to visit in Boise, it’s hard to go wrong as there are so many great options alongside beautiful scenery in-between (0 comments)
Michael and I have always loved dining outdoors, but in general, most Idahoans love eating outside next to the Boise River – especially in the spring, summer and fall as the experience provides a break from the high desert heat.
True waterside patios are few and far between in the Treasure Valley, but there are some gems. Although there's a handful of restaurant patios that we have loved over the years, here is one patio that we really enjoyed and just tried for the first time one weekend. And so, of course, that’s why it makes (0 comments)
