Michael and I have love going to concerts and music festivals, and even though it’s been awhile since we’ve seen a show in Boise, the Knitting Factory is one of Boise’s best concert venues. Camping in McCall, Idaho Outside of Boise but still close enough to drive there in two hours, McCall is one of the best places to live and play. I know because I lived there for a couple of years in the mid-late1980s when my son Jonathan was born. The Boise Depot holds a special place in my heart because that is where Michael proposed to me almost 25 years ago. It is a beautiful train depot that features an unbelievable, 360-degree view of downtown Boise with the mountains in the distance. Michael and I have lived in Idaho for more than a combined 110 years, and we have never been to the Idaho Candy Company. So, clearly, this is an activity that we both felt we had to try as well as add it to the list of Boyle’s Boise: 52 Things to Do and See.
First of all, going here was an absolute blast. We both really enjoyed the tour as well as the free samples! We did a bit of research beforehand to maximize our experience, and here is a little information on what we learnedin the process:
Michael and I didn’t know this until we visited one weekend, but the Idaho State Penitentiary in Boise has been deemed as the most haunted prison in all of the state! It has been investigated by ghost hunters, historians and paranormal activity experts who all confirm the strange energies in various places throughout the prison are a common occurrence. I HATE being scared, especially by ghosts, but since this is such a popular Boise activity and something that I have never experienced before, Michael and I decided to do it. The Discovery Center of Idaho (DCI) is all about inspiring a lifelong interest and learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Michael and I have both been to the DCI before, and so has Jonathan, but we have not been there in years. Jonathan loved coming here as a young child, and it has only gotten better over the last two decades. I mentioned this in an earlier blog about Disc Golf, but I grew up watching my father play, and he taught the game to my son Jonathan who still plays regularly today, so I have been a player/enthusiast my entire life. At only 6,525 Ft., Boise Peak is not a large mountain by Idaho standards but is does offer a fun and rewarding climb that's close to Boise. This mountain is part of the Boise Mountains’ foothills that form the backdrop to Idaho's largest city.
