aging in place: Lovely Master Planned Communities in Roseville CA - 04/24/15 01:34 AM
Master Planned Communities Defined
What is a master planned community? According to BusinessDictionary.com, it is defined as "A type of residential plan that includes an unusual number of recreational amenities such as parks, golf courses, lakes, bike paths, and jogging trails. The scope of the plan is very large scale and the number and variety of amenities clearly separates it from a normal plan for a housing subdivision."
Another definition of a master planned community comes from Westpark Communities who has been building master planned communities in West Roseville and Lincoln, CA for years, "Building communities where people live, work and play."

aging in place: 7-Point Checklist for Second Half Home Buyers - 10/29/14 09:51 AM
Boomers and Seniors are still buying and selling homes. The traditional thought is that they are all downsizing, but that's not true. Some are, indeed, downsizing. Others are upsizing due to multigenerational needs. Or perhaps a growing hobby. Plus some are in business and need more office space. Whatever the reason for buying or selling, whether to a bigger or smaller home, there are some special things to take into consideration, as I've shared many times, including here, here, and here.
I just read the article below, 7-Point Checklist for Second Half Home Buyers, and found it very useful as well. … (3 comments)

aging in place: A New Universal Design Home Would Be Dream Come True - 06/24/14 11:04 AM

Beazer Homes - I've had the chance to visit a few in California when we were house hunting, once upon a time, and remember them as quite nice and practical homes. Fun to visit and daydream of future family events as we wandered through their lovely interiors, looking for just the right fit for our family.
Now, they have me daydreaming again. This time, Beazer Homes wants us to think about what's in our new dream house. Of course, the first thing that pops into my head? Aging in Place and Universal Design options for my senior mom, my visiting grandkids, other family … (0 comments)

Sometimes, the best time to move is NOT NOW! As Margaret Rome shares below, if you are a boomer or senior, living in a home you love, with grand aging in place options, that may be the best option for you for the time being. Some grand food for thought for so many!

Aging In Place May Be The Option

Counseling is a big part when working with Seniors. You often have family members making decisions. Grown children thinking it is best for Mom or Dad to be in condo or adult community. Sometimes they are right but … (9 comments)

aging in place: Real Estate Broker Tours Are Profitable in Many Ways - 03/01/14 06:12 AM
Real Estate Broker Tours are a grand way for REALTORS® to get together, preview houses that have just been listed, network with real estate brokers and agents from other companies, as well as get to know agents from their own office a bit better.
Going in groups to various homes is beneficial to each other and to everyone's clients, as one broker will highlight something they like that the rest of us hadn't always noticed. For example, I am always looking for things to make life easier for elderly seniors who may be living on their own or moving in with … (0 comments)

aging in place: Steilacoom, Charming Town on The Water's Edge of the Puget Sound - 01/19/14 02:26 PM
Steilacoom, Washington is a delightful little town located in the central portion of the Puget Sound. I love to drive through this charming city while on various errands. To get to Steilacoom from either direction (from Lakewood or JBLM / DuPont), you enjoy drive through towering trees that are gorgeous. Even in the middle of winter, many are still green. (Yet another reason for the state's nickname - the Evergreen State of Washington.) And whichever direction you arrive from, you end up enjoying a beautiful vista of water and islands.
This sweet city was featured by Coastal Living Magazine a few years … (2 comments)

aging in place: Aging In Place Is A Choice - Plan Accordingly - 01/18/14 01:39 PM

A grand article by a kindred spirit, Rebecca Foresee, who also believes in Aging In Place for boomers and seniors, as well as even youngers. She's got some grand tips for planning ahead.

When I say aging in place, I'm talking about a person living in their own home as they continue life's journey.  Trust me, you don't have to be a senior or even a Baby Boomer to age in place.  Life may dictate you need services from others and support; but it … (1 comments)

aging in place: MultiTasking Can Be Fun For Grandparents AND Real Estate Agents - 01/12/14 01:17 PM
As a busy real estate agent and grandmother, I love it when I can combine my various interests. One of my favorite things to do is combine photos I take from a variety of places, including real estate projects, with Bible verses to share with my grandkids AND with different online linkups I enjoy, like Charlotte's Spiritual Sunday. And when I get to add creative iPhone mobile apps to the project, it's even more fun.
This week I got to test drive a new app I got for free by using a photo of the shower seat I shared in Simple Aging-In-Place … (6 comments)

aging in place: Aging in Place and Universal Design - Not JUST for Boomers and Seniors - 01/03/14 07:04 AM
I told a friend I had written an article about Aging in Place and Universal Design this week and she asked, "Cool. Uhhhh....What are they?"
Since I've been writing about caregiving, multigenerational families, boomers and seniors, and seniors aging-in-place for over five years, they are very familiar topics to me. But her question made me realize that not everyone has heard of them.  Sounds like a grand reason for a new article defining these terms that are growing more common and more important.
The CDC, Center for Disease Control and Prevention,  defines aging in place as "The ability to live in one’s … (0 comments)
