blogging: "Don't Go Bacon My Heart" - 03/23/22 02:44 PM
I've been remiss in my blogging and resolve to pick it back up again.  I've missed the camaraderie between fellow bloggers online and ... well, just the routine of it.  :)
For inspiration, since I'm a rusty ole nail, I checked out an idea board online for blogging topics.
#3 was Bacon.
Oh my gosh, don't you love it.  Bacon.  Most people really enjoy a side of salty pork.
When I think of bacon, I recall an Iron Chef Tucson event where the main ingredient was bacon.  I think by the end of the hour of cooking, everyone in there would have paid big bucks … (7 comments)

blogging: Like the Ripples in a Pond - Let's all Throw in a Pebble - 12/07/20 01:55 PM
I read a post last week written by Michael Jacobs, and the memories it invoked sent me down a road to rediscovery of a book I'd read over 50 years ago.  Michael's post was called, "That Special Blue Box" and centered a bit on expectations, which was what prompted that long ago memory of mine.  It's interesting to read his comment string as well, as we are all so very different and react in unique ways to what we read.  (One of the reasons I LOVE book club, but I digress)
My comment to "That Special Blue Box" was the following:

blogging: Blogging Insomnia - 10/20/17 01:03 AM
It's interesting how one can get up in the middle of the night, too many ideas whirling around, and decide to write a blog.
There in the dark, just a couple of cats available for company, you get to thinking you're all alone in the world, typing away at your typewriter.
You push the "POST" button, and not but few minutes later get a notification that fifty other people have already read your latest blog post.
We're not alone at all.
Somewhere, out there, someone else is plugging away on their computer as well.  Or working the night shift, or perhaps gets up really, really, early...maybe … (13 comments)

blogging: Engage in Blogging - 10/05/17 03:40 PM
In about three weeks, I'm going to be talking to a dozen or so agents from my office about getting started in blogging.
Oh what to say -- what to focus on -- what's most important?
I want to share a list of blogging ideas so folks realize they don't have to stare at a blank page. I want to share the importance of knowing your voice, and the style in which you plan to post I want to share about niche marketing, and,  I want to share about the power of online networking, referrals, information, education. In addition to that,

blogging: 7 Year Itch -- No Way! Blogging and Loving It! - 06/01/17 02:44 PM
In researching my history for another blog post this week regarding the power of ActiveRain networking, I realized that June 6 marked the 7 year anniversary of my very first (a positive re-blog of someone else's content as I learned the ropes here ) post on Active Rain. Wow!
During that time, I've written or posted  over 1175 blog posts, been READ or at skimmed! almost 2 million times....(wow, does that make me an author!) and amassed over 600,000 points.  In ActiveRain speak that helps with subscription costs, list-topping, and other behind-the-scenes details.  (For the public, if you figure 225 points for the … (5 comments)

blogging: 6 Year Anniversary on Active Rain Just Blew By - 06/08/16 08:14 AM

Wow, I was looking back at my history today and way back on June 7, 2010, I placed my first personally-written blog post, advertising my own townhome for sale.
How time flies!  I did a quick average of how many times I blogged a month, spread over the years, and got 15 1/2 blogs.  So, averaging a little over 3 blog postings a week.  I've had ups and downs, but in looking at my lead history,  I always know that for me -- I simply MUST keep the blogging alive
When I look at 2016 right now, almost 30% of my business has … (23 comments)

blogging: Where Can You Be 30 Days From Now?? - 04/14/16 12:07 AM
This morning I was looking for a past marketing letter and I ran across the rough draft of a blog I'd written July 2, 2010.  It was all about what I'd learned in  26 days of blogging.
Wow.
It was fascinating that by that time I'd already published 48 postings, whether as a Member's Only, or reblog of a few.  I was a blogging machine. I don't blog as often nowadays, but I do 10X the business...
It made me reflect on what I've learned about blogging in almost 6 years and close to 2 million clicks! Here's a few comments from that earlier blog and … (20 comments)

blogging: Active Rain has Changed My Life - 07/29/15 10:51 PM

Active Rain has changed my life.
Nope, not being melodramatic – not one bit.
You see, Tuesday, I was asked to speak on an “expert panel” to the Long Realty agents of Tucson, AZ regarding social media, and my particular slant…blogging.  I shared the speech on an earlier blog posting.
I was following up with a new agent who liked the idea of blogging.  I checked the stats this morning of my top-producing blog posts and was tickled to see that a 2012 story of mine had close to 27,500 views.  It was entitled, “Buyers Don’t Care about your AR Account”.  That was a line … (24 comments)

blogging: Know your Market, Your Business Plan, Yourself - 07/29/15 10:07 PM

Know your Market, Your Business Plan, Yourself

Social Media – It’s crucial to know your market, & work what’s right for you within a business plan.
Chris Webb, Education & Training with Nova Home Loans, says that here in Tucson we can demographically subdivide into two main categories:  One by the University of Arizona which adheres primarily to Instagram and Twitter. Two: Tucsonans who are primarily on Facebook.

Social media outlets are constantly expounding on the latest and greatest technology for agents to use. Understanding what is out there is great, however implementing the latest trends in your local market may not be … (7 comments)

blogging: Active Rain: Does It Really Work to Blog? - 07/03/15 10:35 AM
Active Rain:  Does It Really Work To Blog?
I am guilty of spending too much time away from one of the most powerful tools at my fingertips.  Everyone knows, as professionals in sales, we must always be working for the future, no matter how busy we are in the "now".  Real estate agents especially know that includes using all of our prospecting tools to get next week's clients, and next month's clients, even though this week may be slammed.
Easier said than done.
The funny thing is -- I love blogging.  I love reading other people's blogs.  I love commenting, and reading comments, and … (3 comments)

You just hit 10,000 points on ActiveRain

Ha!  There must be a glitch!  I've received four of these in the past couple of days...

Sure hope I don't get 47 more by the weekend!

That being said, it's been a fun and rewarding half million!  Thanks Active Rain and Active Rain community!!!!

blogging: Looking Ahead -- Looking Back: Blogging Effectively - 01/08/14 05:13 AM
Looking Ahead -- Looking Back:  Blogging Effectively
Part of looking ahead, includes looking back.  I spent some time this morning compiling a list of my top-viewed blog postings of last year, and was happy to see a nice mix between personal and professional, Localism to business, photos and just-for-fun.

I think it's important to evaluate, because if you're going to take the time to blog, it's probably pretty important to see what folks are reading that you HAVE written!  I remember when I was first "lurking" on Active Rain, trying to figure out if I was smart enough to … (6 comments)

I was Going to Clean my Desk off This Morning, But...

He just looks so doggone comfortable.  So, I opted for a Sunday morning blog, instead!
I'm reading a great book right now, that I encourage those that find organizing, and reducing paper in their lives, a challenge.  I have to give a talk on the subject in a few weeks for my office, so I'm boning up on background information! I started with this one,   Barbara Hemphill's "Organizing Paper @Home"
I'll be happy to read her book on office paper as well, "Taming the Paper Tiger at Work" … (1 comments)

blogging: The ActiveRain Paradox - 11/18/12 12:09 AM
I've been HEAVILY sharing with my office co-workers these past months regarding the effectiveness of blogging for business.  Rich spells it out quite simply.  I will emphasize again, for the newbies...just do what you can, focus on your niche, and quality over quantity.  Comment, comment, comment...and remember to acknowledge those that associate you, re-blog you, comment on your posts, etc.  Reciprocity!  Thanks Rich!
Are you blogging for fun? Or are you blogging for business? The two are not the same, and it you get them confused, you won't be doing either one of them very well.

Keeping the Momentum...Hurdling the First Years in Real Estate

There's an agent in my office just completing her first year in real estate..and she's wondering how she's going to keep afloat and garner new business to support her in her new career for the NEXT 12 months.  Year one was pretty challenging for her, and although she had some sales...the often unpredictable cash flow of real estate sales has her worrying.
I have many of my own ideas I thought I'd incorporate into the next few blog postings, but I'm curious what advice you in Active Rain land would advise … (8 comments)

blogging: 300,000 Points and Just Getting Started - 03/04/12 03:20 AM
300,000 Points and Just Getting Started
This blog posting is going to take me over the 300,000 mark here in Active Rain and I've done a lot of thinking about blogging and Active Rain lately.  In fact, much more thinking than posting!
At the end of January I switched brokerages to join a Long Realty Branch not 10 minutes from my home.  Long Realty captures the lions' portion of Market Share here in metropolitan Tucson, and I'm hoping it adds to the real estate recipe I've been cooking up for about 18 months now.

So with the brokerage transfer, … (62 comments)

blogging: "Buyers Don't Care about your AR Account" - 01/17/12 04:08 AM
"Buyers Don't Care about your AR Account"
With the start of 2012, I've noticed that SEO managers, blogging professionals, Bing, Google, and Yahoo reps, etc. are tearing up the phone lines with their marketing and online "advice".  Every one is trying to offer something of value and are certain they have the answer to online productivity.
Here's a follow-up email I received from one such call, and I thought I'd share just an excerpt.
"Buyers will almost never see your AR account and they won’t care either.  The only legitimate reason to spend any time on AR is to improve your … (77 comments)

Reciprocity - What I've Learned with 150,000 Points on Active Rain

With this post, I will be passing the 150,000 points benchmark as a rainmaker in Active Rain.  I've given a lot of thought to it this week as I reflect on the changes I've made in my business, online profile, and even personal life since becoming an active blogger in June of 2010.First off, I recommend blogging to anyone who can put a few thoughts down on paper.  (or computer)  I started out sharing what I loved about my community, occasionally dared to express an opinion about something, and … (62 comments)

blogging: Blogging/Aiming in the Right Direction - 01/05/11 01:44 AM
Blogging Aiming in the Right Direction

I've been blogging since June 2010, and I've summed up my "purpose" on Active Rain in a few of last year's blogposts. One was when I hit 100,000 points, and the other, a discussion and pictorial explanation of how Localism can work for you.
My goal is to be a community voice during my time here on AR; sharing events, compiling resources of "things to do", restaurant reviews, and mainly focusing on the many neighborhoods in my community within which readers might have an interest.
Being a person who likes to compile statistics, I … (4 comments)

blogging: You Make Me Feel Like Dancing!!! - My 30/30 Challenge is Complete!! - 09/21/10 05:13 PM
This is it!  I've DONE it!  I think this is number 30!  My 30/30 day challenge is over!!!!!
I have to admit, I've been a rainmaker for four months now, and this has been my hardest.  There's quite a bit of difference between "feeling" like blogging, and being "committed" to blogging.
My numbers show pretty consistent blogging totals.  My first month I went a little crazy with 46 posts - so much to SAY, so much to SHARE - so much time in front of my COMPUTER!!!!!!!!
I do like my weekends off.  It revvs me up for the week to … (13 comments)
