business plan: Wow, 2015 is Almost to an End! What's Ahead in 2016? - 12/01/15 02:44 AM
Wow, 2015 is Almost to an End! What's Ahead in 2016?

If you haven't done a year-end review yet, you might be running out of time.
Do you track your activities throughout the year to see what actions have paid off, and which have simply been busywork?
Do open houses work for you?
Floor duty at your Realtor office?
Where does your business come from?
How much of your routine is spent creating new business?
Do you have a preliminary outlook for 2016?
If not, maybe that should be your move for December 2016.  Don't be looking back a year from now thinking, "geeee...that flew by".
Make a plan to plan … (2 comments)

business plan: The First Day of the Last Month of 2014 - What's Your Exit Plan? - 12/01/14 03:41 AM
The First Day of the Last Month of 2015 - What's Your 2014 Exit Plan?
I'm sitting in front of my computer in my pajamas still (yep, I admit it) working since 7 a.m.

Although I look at my transaction log filled with what has happened, what will happen, and what I HOPE will happen on a regular basis...I find each December has me going through some familiar routines.
First of all, I make sure my invoices and bills and receipts are in order.  It isn't fun to start scrambling in the Happy New Year period for taxes.
Secondly, I look … (15 comments)

business plan: Who Do You Want to Market To? - 05/04/14 02:06 AM
Who Do You Want to Market To?
I received an email this morning with this question in the subject line, and my first thought was, "A ready, willing, and able buyer or seller".
Of course, I had to open the email to see what their angle was, and they were advertising print direct mail.

There are many styles of marketing, but in my mind, knowing WHOM to market to is another question altogether.
Do you niche market?  For instance...do I market Tucson, Marana, Vail, Catalina, Saddlebrooke, Oro Valley and Vail...or do I target...say....Marana?
Do my marketing materials reflect the needs … (3 comments)

business plan: Can You Learn from the Past? Planning Ahead into 2014 - 12/27/13 11:31 PM
Can You Learn from the Past?  Planning Ahead into 2014
Looking back over 2013, I have to admit it's been quite a ride.  I've made my largest, and my smallest transactions this year.  I've worked contracts for my clients from $35,000 to $749,000.  I've written over 60 offers, closed more deals, and lost more deals than ever before.  I've reached just shy of $5,000,000 in sales volume.  I've partnered with some great agents in my office, and met corporate, retiring, vacationing, first-time home buyers from all over the USA.  What a year.
But I must admit it's been an emotional ride.  … (11 comments)

business plan: What Particular Skill/Skills Do You Hope to Improve Upon for 2013? - 12/13/12 10:27 PM
What Particular Skill/Skills Do You Hope to Improve Upon for 2013?
I ran across an interesting question on LinkedIn recently that tied into my recent blog postings on business plans for the New Year.
The question was, “If you are working on your business plan for 2013, what particular skill/skills do you hope to either improve upon or learn new?”
In perusing the answers, I ran across such a widespread response that I decided to add up the answers.
In comparing 60 answers, here are the following shared priorities:

business plan: Being "Soci@l" - Two and A Half Years into the Journey - 11/21/12 01:48 AM
Being "Soci@l" - Two and A Half Years into the Journey
Way back in June of 2010, I started my rainmaker account here in Active Rain and began my new journey of blogging, networking, learning, and forays into social media.
Near the end of the month I read an online manual named, "Soci@l, Putting it All Together".  What I found most interesting were the goals I'd laid out for myself after reading the "book".   I found them especially interesting as I tweak my business plan for 2013.

Here's what I'd planned for myself:
1. Identifying my niche in a … (24 comments)

business plan: Are You Busy, or Are you Productive? - 11/19/12 03:06 AM
Are You Busy, or Are you Productive?
In class last week, we discussed the importance of engaging with "activities and relationships that give us a powerful and rapid rate of return."
I guess that means no Scrabble during work hours....
Remember back a few years ago when folks could get in BIG trouble for being on FACEBOOK during work hours?  And now, that's a part of many professional business plans and campaigns.
Times are always changing, evolving, etc.
Twitter of course, is no longer for Twits.
In February 2010, Twitter users were sending 50 million tweets per dayIn March statistics reported 140 … (4 comments)

business plan: "Tools Kept in the Tool Box Don't Do Us Much Good" - 11/16/12 11:01 PM
"Tools Kept in the Tool Box Don't Do Us Much Good"
I'm paraphrasing it a little bit, but that was the lesson learned in a recent preparatory Real Estate class.  Our focus:  Jump starting 2013
We're listening to a series of national speakers each week as we implement the steps towards our business plans of next year.
Tools kept in the tool box won't do us any good if we don't use them...
For some reason that brings to mind the many memories I have of pounding a nail in the wall with the handle of a butcher knife.  Or the tip … (26 comments)

business plan: Where Does Your Business Come From? - 11/05/12 09:28 PM
Where Does Your Business Come From?
I don't know about you, but as a REALTOR®, I like to keep a spreadsheet of my business transactions.  Even when I had just a few, I started my color-coded, growing document.
I believe it helps you to understand where your business and referrals are coming from.
When I first started, I tried several pay-per-click sites.

I was a "featured" REALTOR® on others.
I tried hard-copy, business-card-sized ads in local niche markets.
I set an advertising budget consistent with my business plans and goals, and tried different avenues, tracking all the while, to see … (69 comments)

Keeping the Momentum...Hurdling the First Years in Real Estate

There's an agent in my office just completing her first year in real estate..and she's wondering how she's going to keep afloat and garner new business to support her in her new career for the NEXT 12 months.  Year one was pretty challenging for her, and although she had some sales...the often unpredictable cash flow of real estate sales has her worrying.
I have many of my own ideas I thought I'd incorporate into the next few blog postings, but I'm curious what advice you in Active Rain land would advise … (8 comments)

Planning to Succeed - My Kind of Success

I'm counting my blessings this morning, looking back over 2010 and feeling thankful indeed.
Do you make yearly goals?
Do you formulate a business plan and take the steps necessary?
Last year I sat down with my husband and discussed what I wanted to achieve in real estate.  I'd been a part-timer for 5 years, and due to circumstances, it was time to move permanently into full-time.  This was my first year where I would be full-time for the entire 12 months.
The first step was education.  I had minor experience in … (5 comments)
