Faith is the ultimate resource, and it can transform any experience of our lives.  Faith is confidence or trust in something that is not based on proof.
Interestingly, we are taught conflicting precepts about faith.  Life is full of these apparent contradictions.  We’re told “Look before you leap,” and we’re also told, “He who hesitates is lost.”  We’re told “You gotta have faith,” and we’re also told “Trust, but verify.”  We’re told to “Use your head,” and we’re also told to “Follow your heart.”  We’re told to “Put yourself first,” and we’re told to “Put your family first.”

What you focus on, you feel.  If we focus on pain, injustice, hatred, prejudice, violence, depression, and greed, we’ll find that there is plenty in the world.  If we focus on love, hope, joy, peace, fulfillment, gratitude, and giving, there is plenty to see and feel and appreciate.  The evidence is all around us.

My first real parenting decision was made on June 26, 2015.  It was simple, but not easy, particularly since it was a life or death decision.  My newlywed wife Amira was 12 weeks into her pregnancy with our first child.  We were told that day by our doctor that our unborn child had a condition which was “not compatible with life.”  Our baby did not develop a top of the skull.  There would be nothing to contain and protect the cognitive part of the brain, and therefore the brain could not develop.   Anencephaly, the doctor called it.  A terminal prenatal diagnosis.  … (85 comments)
