selling a home: Forsalebyowner.com and Justifying the Price - 09/26/08 06:44 AM
It wasn't that long ago that I published an article titled, "Forsalebyowner.com - Is It Worth The Price".  I actually had a lot of traffic which proves that probably the thought of selling a home on your own probably hits about every consumer's mind at one point or another.  I recently received an email letting me know that in an article titled, "For Sale By Owner: A Look at Selling Your Home on Your Own" that my original article was referenced and linked to in this article.
Well, I thought that was fantastic but more important I believe that sellers need to … (2 comments)

selling a home: "Staging"- Is It the Key to Selling in Today's Market? - 01/30/08 03:51 AM

In today's economy, especially in Michigan, seller's have to pull out all the stops to sell their home.  Staging has become an important piece of that puzzle.  I don't believe that it is the magic key  because there are other factors that come into play when selling a home.  The key factors always come into play in any market: location, price and condition.  Plus, I believe there is another way to stand out in today's marketplace... just give me a call and I know you won't be disappointed!

selling a home: The ABC's of Conquering Clutter - 08/28/07 06:23 AM
Clutter is an issue that everyone deals with, unless you are like my girlfriend who moves every two years and therefore stays more on top of the clutter than the rest of us.  I'm currently "decluttering" my house and let me tell you this is one of the worst projects I've ever done, but I know in the long run it will pay off especially when we move and we don't have to go back through all that junk!
Here's the ABC's on Controlling Clutter

selling a home: Curb Appeal - Best Face Forward - 08/28/07 05:58 AM
I know that I've done several blogs on the importance of staging and curb appeal.  Why?  Because it could mean the difference between selling and not selling your home.  Plus, these articles are more meaningful when you are going through the process yourself.  Today, I'm cleaning my office, staining a deck and writing blogs.  We are getting ready to put our own home up for sale in the spring market but know we have a lot of "projects" to get done first.  The outside projects will be done before the end of this week!
As I'm reading all the information that I … (5 comments)

selling a home: 10 Steps for Staging a Room or For Decorating for the Present - 08/23/07 11:42 PM
If you have read my blogs in the past, you would know that I love to pick up magazines and browse online about articles dealing with homes and real estate.  Just goes to show you that I truly love real estate.  One of my favorite shows, online places and magazines is HGTV.  While I don't always agree with their opinion, they do have a lot of helpful hints that I use personally for my own home.  The latest fun piece that I researched was on decorating which is beneficial right now but also when staging a home to sell.
Here are the 10 … (4 comments)

selling a home: Forsalebyowner.com is it worth the price??? - 06/26/07 02:39 PM
I love the for sale by owner market! In the Grand Rapids, Michigan real estate market and the Michigan real estate market in general, trying to be a for sale by owner takes a lot of guts.  I don't mean this in a bad way.  What I mean is that it is tough enough to sell even when you are represented by a Realtor because there are so many homes for sale in the Grand Rapids marketplace.  As of the end of May, the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors board (GRAR) reported that there were over 15,000 listings from January through May … (8 comments)

selling a home: Real Estate - Selling a Home - HGTV's Top 20 Renovations - 05/20/07 01:31 PM
In real estate market with an influx of homes for sale, careful planning is necessary when getting a home ready to sell.  In today's real estate market, I find that home sellers have figured out that they need to have their home almost perfect if they want it to sell.  If it's not perfect, then a seller will usually see the consequences of it in a lesser offer.  Since most sellers want the most money possible, it's imperative in real estate to consider the home, house floor plan and renovations that make money sense.
Here's a list of the Top 20 Renovations … (3 comments)

17435 Thunder Bay Dr., Howard City, MI - $229,999 - SOLD IN 5 DAYS!!!
A fantastic property that sits right on Indian Lake in Howard City.  Absolutely gorgeous inside - it had 2 competing offers from the first two visitors that entered the home.  Setting is beautiful as was the inside.  Lakefront homes, in my opinion, are always a good buy.  This home I'm sure will be a great place for the new residents for many years to come!!!

selling a home: Print Advertising - Could it be worth spending our money on it? - 04/18/07 12:28 AM
I ran into someone the other day that had their home listed and was upset that their open house ad wasn't in the paper.  Even though it wasn't my listing, I tried to explain to the person that when Realtors track their responses to advertising they usually find out that most people came from the internet.  This seller was very frustrated because they need their home sold NOW and were in a sticky situation.
There are a few times when print advertising does work.  It really depends on who you are trying to capture as a buyer.  I feel that the baby … (10 comments)

selling a home: The Secret - 04/16/07 01:28 AM
I believe that people want to know what the secret is to selling a home, especially in a buyer's market.  Maybe some Realtors even wonder what the secret is to getting their homes sold?  Is it pricing, is it staging, is it the Internet, is it....?
The longer I'm in real estate, the more I believe the secret is YOU!  I've seen way to many times that when my attitude is good, so is my business.  When my attitude stinks, so does my business.
Last night, I finally watched "The Secret" DVD.  I've had multiple people tell me that this is something I … (8 comments)
