Recently, Montana's Governor Brian Schweitzer, stated "Over the past five years, Montana has had the second-highest annual growth rate in export value in the nation."
Montana Department of Commerce records show that in 2007, Montana's commodity exports increased almost 35% to a new high of $1.74 billion. Wheat ranked #1 at $613.4 million, which is a $203 million increase from the previous year. The Montana Wheat and Barley Committee puts the majority of the 107.8 million bushels of wheat as exported to Japan.

Freddie Mac will finance $10 billion to $15 billion in jumbo mortgages from big lenders in an effort to jump start the frozen higher-priced housing market. The move was expected since Congress changed the rules allowing government-sponsored corporations, Freddie and Fannie Mae to purchase mortgages to $729,750 in 224 high-cost markets. This should allow home purchasers in these regions to get lower rates than they otherwise could in the present credit crunch.

Gallatin Field officials in Belgrade, Montana, the regional airport for Bozeman and other Gallatin Valley communities, have announced that United Express will begin offering direct Los Angeles International Airport weekend flights, arriving at 10:07 am on Saturday's and departing at 6:30 am on Sunday's beginning in June, 2008. United Express already has direct flights to Denver, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Tenants associations are common in urban areas but practically nonexistent here in Montana, so this is a first. Susan Floerchinger who helped form this association hopes this association will let other tenants know they have rights. The tenants of her apartment complex, Darlington Manor in Bozeman, Montana, hope the association they have formed will allow them to be heard when expressing their grievances to management and owners.

This action is a response to a recent Department of Justice Antitrust Division investigation. The DOJ stated the rule change will help consumers to locate real estate services in Montana by removing this rebate impediment, which stifiled competition between brokers.
