active rain contests: I'm just a Roadie in a Rock 'n Roll band - 10/02/19 04:01 PM
I've been a full-time REALTOR® for more than 12 years now, but prior to that, I worked in the IT field. I was a facilities manager, responsible for more than 500 computers for a software training company. I also worked as a computer technician and specialized in server-based Enterprise VOIP systems.
But I did learn a lot from it. I picked up a lot of the computer skills I still use and learned about communicating effectively through a company.
Before I cut my hair and took a job in computers, however, I worked in the Music Business.  I had LOTS of different … (30 comments)

active rain contests: The Kitchen Sells the House - 10/01/17 12:53 PM
Buyers love kitchens.
Every time I've bought a house, I've made that decision in the kitchen. When I sell a house, about half the time, the buyer makes the decision in the kitchen.
Kitchens sell.
Which is why I'm entering this beautiful kitchen as our entry into the real estate category of Mary and Dick Greenberg's October Active Rain photography contest.
We chose this photo of 2319 Lyde Place in Scotch Plains because the kitchen is the heart of this home, as it is for many homes. Every time we've held an open house or visited with the owners, we've enjoyed the bright light of the … (12 comments)

active rain contests: Let's Get Real-ly Good at Communicating - 04/10/17 01:12 PM
My clients loved the photos of the house you're listing. They've called me three times already asking to see it. But the instructions on the MLS say that I have to schedule appointments directly with you, and you're not calling me back.

As our real estate business grew, the number of people we were marketing grew also. Soon, we were attempting to sell ourselves as the best in the business for millennial home buyers, first time home buyers, people who are relocating, condo sellers, multi family buyers, expired listings, FSBO converters - you name it, we handled it.
But sometimes less is more.
So, as our business continued to grow, our focus narrowed. And, instead of flailing about grasping at straws, we zeroed in on the people we were best able to help - people like us. One of our spectacularly ambitious and successful children has flown … (30 comments)

active rain contests: Mid Year Review - 07/11/16 01:36 AM
In any great adventure, it's important to measure progress at various intervals. Course corrections and honest looks in the mirror are the only way to achieve any measure of success in the long run. Running a business is certainly no exception.
As we close out the first half of 2016, our numbers show a mixed bag.
First, the good news. We closed more sales at a higher volume in these past 6 months than any other 6 month period since we started in real estate.  Then, the bad news. Because we closed so many sales, our inventory is dangerously low.
We also review … (6 comments)
