book review: Networking Like a Pro - A Book Review - 07/30/15 11:50 PM
Since networking is a big part of how we attract business, there are lots of networking books on our shelves. One of our favorites is Networking Like a Pro by Ivan Misner.
Ivan Misner is the founder of BNI, the world's largest business networking organization. In Networking Like a Pro, Misner outlines the strategies for successful networking and reminds us all that networking is a skill that needs to be honed over time. It's not about fast cash.
Networking success isn't measured necessarily by how many referrals one gets becuase a referral network can take years to build successfully. Instead, networking success can be measured … (8 comments)

book review: How to Make $100,000 - A Book Review - 07/30/15 04:04 AM
We've attended several of Darryl Davis's workshops and enjoy much of what he reads. Even though we're not new agents, we keep a copy of How to Make $100,000+ Your First Year as a Real Estate Agent in our office.
If you haven't read How to make $100,000, there's a lot of great info in the book.
There's advice for the new agent:
"Set a High CAP" where C stands for Confidence, A stands for Aggressiveness, and P stands for Persistence.  Choosing the right agency. Davis talks about the types of brokerages, how splits and desk fees are determined, and gives great questions … (6 comments)

book review: Life 101 - A Book Review - 07/27/15 04:41 AM
Tucked into the back of the book cases along with some old college books was a copy of the 1991 book Life 101 by John-Roger and Peter McWilliams. It's a book I've read a few times and skimmed many times and it contains a paradigm of life as a classroom. I think there are a lot of good ideas for the business savvy among us in this book as well.

book review: 21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me - Book Review - 07/26/15 11:18 PM
Frank Cook's book 21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me has been on our shelf for a while so I decided to give it a go. You can tell from this photo that I annotate when I read, and I found some interesting things in this book to remember.
As experienced Realtors, the 21 things, which Cook shares on pages 1-3 of the book, are mostly things you've known all along - what to do those first few days, what it means to be an independent contractor, intial start up expenses, the hazards of frustration. But there are some gems to … (9 comments)

book review: 11/22/63 - a Book Review - 10/26/13 04:43 AM
I was born 13 months after Kennedy was shot, and heard my parents and grandparents and their friends, and later teachers, speak of the horror of that day so often that I feel like I was there. Everyone knows where they were when they heard the news, and, in my mind and in the minds of millions of people, this was an iconic moment in history. It was a single event that shaped everything to come.

Stephen King has never been my favorite author. I'd stumbled across his books from time to time, but horror is my least favorite … (3 comments)
