Of course, not all home improvements are beneficial to you from a financial standpoint, but some improvements can make a huge difference in your home. Refinishing a hardwood floor is a DIY project that even an inexperienced homeowner can accomplish with a little elbow grease and a small investment in materials and tools. When our daughter moved out, we suddenly found ourselves with an empty bedroom. It had green walls with blue trim and a pale pink carpet. Step 1: Painted the trim bright white. Twice to cover the blue. Step 2: Painted the walls grey. Step 3: Rip up the carpet to expose the beautiful hardwood floors that our home has throughout. Uh oh.
