new providence: What do the latest school Ratings mean, and what do they mean to you?

How's your school doing? Among other factors, home values are directly linked to schools. Great schools bring up the prices of homes, and bad schools bring down the prices. If you haven't seen the news, this year's School Ratings by Inside New Jersey has been published. Inside New Jersey is not the only school rating system but it is the first to publish their results this year.
Inside New Jersey used 4 years of data to evaluate schools. The criteria they used were the HSPA (High School Proficiency Assessment) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) results. Each school was given a letter grade - A, B, C … (3 comments)

Union County, NJ, lost too many of our sons and daughter on September 11, 2001. The City of Union lost nine residents in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. Robert Alan Hepburn worked on the 93rd floor of the World Trade Center. Edward Calderon was a security guard for the Port Authority. Khalid M. Annually, Newsweek Magazine scours the data from the nation's high schools and culls the top 1000 schools, based on the critera of which schools are most effective in producing college-ready graduates. The six components against which they judge the high schools are: graduation rate college matriculation rate Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccaleureate (IB) tests taken per student average SAT and ACT test scores average AP and IB scores AP courses offered This year, 11 Union County high schools ranked in the top 1000 in the Nation. Get ready for some Spring Time Fun in Union County! The Easter Bunny will be around this weekend for the first Easter Egg hunts of the year. New Providence Lions Club will hold its Easter Egg Hunt at Oakwood Park Easter on Saturday, March 31st, at 9:30 am with the Easter Bunny arriving at 9:15 am. Balloons, lollipops, and viewing of EMS vehicles will start at 9:00. All age groups are invited but the egg hunt is limited to Pre-K to 2nd grade.
