real estate: The market is going crazy! Here's why. - 09/23/20 01:24 PM
In March of this year,  we first began seeing cases of COVID-19 in our area, in a short time thereafter, businesses and schools were forced to shut down.  Along with the shutdown came a drop-off in the number of homes being sold, at least in the early on.  As March turned into April, and into the first half of May, the numbers of contract sales (homes entering into Under Contract or Pending status) fell dramatically.  April, 2020, saw less than half the number of homes entering into contract compared to the same period in 2019.
Eventually, things began to reopen and Real Estate Professionals began showing properties.  … (5 comments)

real estate: Rahway Real Estate during the pandemic - 05/08/20 12:49 PM
It is really easy to find news about COVID these days.  The virus affects all ages and all demographics. The shutdown, similarly, affects all ages and all demographics. Here's how it is affecting real estate in our area.
Rahway real estate usually has a cyclical feel to it - prices and sales peaking in the summer and dropping in the winter.
In a "normal" year, sales typically look like this. Sales, in orange in this graph, start out low in the winter and then gradually pick up until the summer and then drop off in the fall. Listings, in blue in the graph, … (8 comments)

real estate: The Housing Market and COVID-19 - 04/17/20 10:48 AM
How to manage the Market during and after COVID-19Coronavirus.
COVID-19.
Quarantine.
Unemployment.
Schools closed.
All we hear on the news is these stories.
There is no doubt, we will look back on 2020 as the year that things got very bizarre   We’ll remember the people who succumbed to this virus and we will also celebrate the heroes; nurses, doctors, the frontline responders, EMT’s, Police and Firefighters.  We will look back and remember how we saluted the truck drivers and grocery store workers who put themselves in harm’s way, every day, to make sure that we had the basic necessities to get by. And we’ll remember the … (3 comments)

real estate: Practicing Real Estate during the COVID-19 Pandemic - 03/24/20 07:33 AM
Here in New Jersey the Governor has ordered that all "non-essential" employees remain home.
Businesses are ordered to make tele-solutions possible for employees if able.  Travel is restricted to trips to the grocery store, the pharmacy, the doctor's office, etc. In NJ ALL gatherings are canceled, no church services, weddings, funerals, parties or any other gatherings are allowed.  It's OK to go for a walk or a bike ride to get some exercise, but social distancing must be adhered to.
So how does this affect Real Estate?
Some offices are open. Some are closed.  The ones that are opened are required to exercise social … (6 comments)

So, you're in the market to buy a home.  You've decided that you want your own place to raise your family.  So, don't you want your family to be as safe as possible in your new home?  Of course you do!  So when you finally find your dream home, you'll want to make sure that your home inspector performs a Radon test.
What is Radon, you ask?  Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is harmless in small concentrations.  While it is emitted pretty much everywhere, certain parts of New Jersey contain higher concentrations than others.  Radon, however, is not something … (6 comments)

real estate: It's that time of the fall... - 11/03/16 05:59 AM
This Sunday, November 6th at 2am, you'll need to set your clock back one hour as Daylight Savings Time comes to an end and we resume Standard Time.  So, before going to bed Saturday, remember to set those clocks back an hour (your computers and phones should do so automatically) and enjoy the "extra" hour of sleep that you'll be getting.
Daylight Savings Time was officially adopted in the United States in 1918.  Only 2 states, Indiana and Arizona (except Navajo Nation lands) do not use Daylight Savings Time.  There are several arguments for DST, in particular, energy savings and not having … (11 comments)
