rockefeller center: A NJ Tree Graces Rockefeller Center This Christmas!

New Jersey has provided the tree for the Rockefeller Christmas tree this year. The Rockefeller Tree in mid-town Manhattan has been a holiday tradition since 1933 when 30 Rockefeller Plaza first opened. Two years earlier, construction workers at the site decorated a 20 foot balsam fir tree with garland, cranberries, and tin cans. The 80 foot tall, 50 feet in circumference Norway Spruce was grown at the Tree King nursery in Hamilton, Morris County, by owner Bill Varanyak’s parents in 1931. Varanyak’s late mother used to say the tree would one day be on display at Rockefeller Center and dubbed it
