So, you're in the market to buy a home.  You've decided that you want your own place to raise your family.  So, don't you want your family to be as safe as possible in your new home?  Of course you do!  So when you finally find your dream home, you'll want to make sure that your home inspector performs a Radon test.

union county: Real Estate Taxes and Education - 06/06/16 07:58 AM
Based on the 2015 tax bills compiled by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, New Jersey's property taxes are among the highest in the Country. Most of your real estate taxes go to support the local public schools. Good public not only educate your children - they also provide an education for all of the children in your town and therefore increase property values.

But the cost of educating a child in NJ varies tremendously from town to town. Some towns receive more in Federal funding for schools than others. Whatever is not paid for by the Federal government is … (5 comments)

union county: Tornado Warnings? - 06/05/16 10:20 AM
This isn't something we're used to having in New Jersey.
A very strong storm system just blew through leaving branches down and temporarily flooding streets.
All afternoon, the weather stations were sending out notifications of possible tornadoes. There is actually a Tornado History Project in NJ which keeps statistics of all known or suspected tornadoes in the Garden State. There have been 146 tornadoes in NJ since 1951 when the stats were first kept. The most recent tornado in NJ was on October 7, 2013 in Bergen County. It was a 1 on the Fujita scale - nearly all historical tornadoes in NJ are 0s … (6 comments)

union county: Frost Warning! Here's how to Protect your Plants! - 03/31/16 08:12 AM
If you're like me, you took advantage of the early spring weather to get some plants in the ground. Peas, lettuce, even a few annual flowers are scattered around our yard, and they were enjoying some beautiful weather for the last few weeks. We also have some spring shrubs and trees that are started to bloom or are in early bud.
But the forecast for the next few nights is winter-like! We have at least a few nights that are forecast to be cold enough for a frost and our delicate spring plants aren't going to make it if we don't protect … (8 comments)

union county: The Statue of Liberty - 08/04/15 11:51 PM
Team Zuhl took a trip to the Statue of Liberty recently. We've been, of course, many times. It's a favorite of out-of-State tourists but there's plenty for locals to do as well.
The Statue of Liberty is open for visitors daily but you won't want to visit unless you've made reservations. On slower days or days with inclement weather this might be optional, but lines can be long. The ferry ride from Liberty Park first goes to Ellis Island and then to the Statue and then back to Libery Park - in total, about an hours ride.
There are three types of tickets you … (14 comments)

union county: What to do this weekend.....Glass Blowing - 06/06/15 01:25 AM
There's a glass studio only about a half hour's drive away from Union County in Somerville. It's called Vandermark Merritt and they hold classes on Saturdays. Team Zuhl took a class a few weeks ago and here's what we did.
First, the glass artisan showed us how to hold a long pole and dip it into a kiln that contains melted glass held at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. When you pull the pole out, a blob of firey yellow melted glass is stuck on it.
Then, you dip the blob of melted glass into a pile of tiny glass bubbles in whatever colors you want. … (6 comments)

The Cranford, NJ, Real Estate Market Report for First Quarter, 2015
Winter is the slowest time in Union County Real Estate. Not only do homes take longer than average to sell in the winter, they also sell for less in the winter than they do the rest of the year.
But don’t think for even one moment that Cranford’s real estate market is dead in the winter!
This winter, Cranford had 94 active listings and 34 sold listings. The average sale price this winter was $403,299 with the average home selling after 69 days.
How does the winter of 2014-15 compare … (1 comments)

union county: There is grass under all that snow! - 03/09/15 05:47 AM
Reports are saying that this February was the snowiest February that New Jersey has ever seen.  We haven't seen our lawn for at least 6 weeks!
Yesterday the warming trend started and today temps peaked near 60 degrees!  The snow is finally melting!
When I pulled into my driveway this afternoon I took this picture, to prove that there really is green grass underneath that white and grey blanket.
How does this relate to our business?  We have been actively prospecting, knowing that the Spring Market is going to be hopping!  So shake off the cold and get ready … (13 comments)
