zuhl: Singing the Egg Song - 06/28/16 02:57 AM
When I was a little girl, my Grandmother had a very large farm in northern Pennsylvania. We would visit for a few weeks each summer and "help" with the farm jobs. One of my favorites was feeding the chickens and searching for eggs. When one of the chickens would sing what she called the "egg song," Grandma would tell me to go check the coop and, sure enough, there was always an egg or two waiting for me. It's not a tremendous surprise that I find myself with some suburban chickens these days.
I've done a bit of research on the care … (10 comments)

zuhl: Spring Cleanup for your Landscaping - 04/11/16 11:49 PM
What's your lawn looking like?

Thanks to our friends at Sharpe Landscapes, our home is looking good for spring. Our garden beds are mulched and edged nicely. Our lawn is seeded and beginning to sprout.
What needs to be done in the yard this spring? Here's a checklist to make sure your yard is summer-ready!
If you had winter tree wrap on any of your trees, now is the time to remove it. Prune and divide your perennials and grasses now, but don't prune trees yet except to remove diseased or dead branches. Remove excess mulch and any remaining leaves to prevent water … (5 comments)

zuhl: Steak and Sizzle - 07/25/15 02:42 AM
We once told clients that
Wayne is the Steak in our relationship
and Jean is the Sizzle.

Wayne is the real estate expert - he's a full time Realtor and is very knowledgeable about the market and about the industry. When you want a substantive answer, go to Wayne. Questions about pricing? Go to Wayne. Advice about negotiations? Wayne's your man.
Jean is a part time Realtor and is mostly responsible for the background stuff - designing flyers, blogging, reassuring clients. If you want someone to hold your hand and tell you not to worry, go to Jean.

This division of labor works for us. How do … (11 comments)

zuhl: How to Look at a House - 07/23/15 06:58 AM
Congratulations!
You've made the decision to buy, you've selected a Realtor, and you've been pre-approved. Now it's time to look at houses.

Here are some things you should be looking for.....

When we bought our house, we specifically wanted a neighborhood without a lot of street lights to distract from our astronomy hobby. We went back to see the houses we liked at several times of the day (and night) to be sure we liked the neighborhood. How is the layout of the house? Do you … (4 comments)

zuhl: What do you need to know about Credit Scores? - 03/21/14 07:37 AM
When you're applying for a mortgage, your credit score can have a big impact not only on the mortgage rate you get but also on how much you can borrow. One of the critical first steps in buying a home is ensuring that your credit score is as high as possible to allow you the most flexibility, but many people aren't aware of how credit scores are calculated.
Your credit score is a numeric value that incorporates all of your credit and payment history into a mathematical equation and calculates the probability of repayment of any future loan. The seven factors … (7 comments)

zuhl: Thursday's Thought - The cup of mediocrity - 11/08/13 07:05 AM

What do you do when you see a mountain?
You could, of course, admire the view and priase those that climbed the mountain.
You could walk around the mountain.
Or you could climb it.
And that, my friends, is the difference between accepting the easy path and reaching for more.  Me? I'll be the best I can be.
Make it a great day, or not. The choice is yours.
