insurance: The 9 Factors That Are Used to Rate Your Auto Insurance! - 07/17/13 12:00 AM
The 9 Factors That Are Used to Rate Your Auto Insurance!
These 9 factors are used by ALL insurance companies to rate your auto insurance but some weigh each factor differently! Some may use credit as they heavier determination factor, some may use age, some claims and yet some your zip code! And even us insurance agents couldn't tell you which does which, as some companies have 72 "tiers" in their algorithm!
You plug in a date-of-birth it goes into one algorithm, # of claims another, credit another...it keeps going when all factors are submitted. Which is why you should shop … (0 comments)

insurance: What is considered an "Act of God" on a Homeowner policy? - 06/28/13 09:16 PM
What is considered an "Act of God" on my Home Owner Insurance policy? We recently had a client of ours call to say his neighbors tree fell on his fence, car & garage and how does he put a claim in against his neighbor's insurance?
Act of God Wind Damage We had to explain to our client that since nobody was negligent for the tree falling, it is considered an "act of God" due to winds. These high sustained winds have nothing to do with the neighbor's blame for his tree falling. Since it is no one's fault, the insurance property … (0 comments)

insurance: How to protect yourself in a homeowner claim. - 06/23/13 09:19 PM
The burden of proof in a homeowner claim is always on the insured - the homeowner. Since that is the case, I am suggesting you take your smartphone and record what you have inside your home. This then becomes your proof at the time of a claim.
No claims adjuster could deny using this for proof. A picture or video is way better than any receipts you may (but probably don't) have. Keeping this proof on your laptop or a thumb drive would be a good idea.
So use your smartphone in a smart way - capture what you own inside … (1 comments)

insurance: Easy way to tell if your insurance agent is serving your interests. - 03/20/13 04:13 AM
With all the noise online, on TV, on your car radio, screaming and yell - save 40%, 15 minutes can save you 15%, nobody beats XXXXX insurance - who do you trust? Insurance - particularly car insurance - is being sold on price alone.
Yet, I see every day the errors and mistakes people are making with their auto insurance - in New York State.
Consumer's thinking all insurance coverage is the same, except for price. Let me tell you a quick story : One of our clients parked his car and was walking across the street to his families restaurant. … (1 comments)

insurance: Beware claims following the home, not the seller! - 03/11/13 09:34 PM
We recently had a situation where the new home buyer was having a hard time finding homeowners insurance...until she called us. The previous owner had 5 claims over a 5 year period and 3 of those were for thefts (not good). Where a lot of insurance companies were denying her, we have one (actually more than one), who looks at the owner's history and not the homes history.
C.L.U.E. reports (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) is where all insurance companies report their losses. It is a record of all reported losses, even if not paid out. We have a client who was … (1 comments)

insurance: Now is the time to set your 2013 goals - NOT January! - 12/11/12 10:59 PM
I use to be like many others and set my goals in Jan. But I have learned over the years that NOW is the time to set them and think about them daily. You need to hit the ground TODAY with your vision of what 2013 will be like. How will you do in your family life? Business life? Money Goals? Where do you want to travel to? When? Can you block out those dates now?
The other tip I can give that I used last year for the 1st time is - make a movie of your goals! I am … (1 comments)

insurance: Squirrels, Vermin and Your Homeowners Insurance Policy - 12/02/12 10:50 PM
Squirrels, Vermin and Your Homeowners Insurance Policy My next door neighbor feeds squirrels on a regular basis. I personally do NOT like squirrels and hate that they climb on my fence between our homes. Luckily, my dog (Major Mo) keeps them out of my yard with his barking and chasing after them.
Well, squirrels & vermin are NOT covered on your homeowner insurance policy if they get into your home. The damage they cause could be quite extensive but it is an EXCLUSION in your homeowner insurance policy.
While my neighbor may think it is cute to feed these vermin, I have told her that if … (2 comments)

insurance: Who do you take advice from? - 11/15/12 11:51 PM
Lots of small business owner's, self employed people (like Realtors) and real estate investors use professional people for advice.
Have a tax problem? You are calling your CPA or accountant to ask how to handle the situation.
Have a legal problem? I know you know attorney's that will take your call and answer your question (many times with a fee). Your legal issues can be helped by that phone call.
Have a home inspection needed done? Same thing, calling your people of expertise you know to help.
So why when it comes to insurance that people will go online to get … (1 comments)

insurance: “You Too Might Have a Broken Insurance Policy” - 01/02/12 02:51 AM

Williamsville, NY

You hear the squawking ads on TV, in your car, online – “Save 15%” or “We have the lowest rates” or “Nobody beats A*******” – their sole job is to make a sale, not protect you & your family correctly. They are under pressure to sell, sell, sell; regardless of the coverage’s you may require (they get fired for NOT selling enough).

insurance: You have until 12/31/2011 to save money in New York. - 12/13/11 07:09 AM
In my world of insurance, it seems like companies are buying each other up year after year. We knew this day was coming when out west (Seattle) giant, Safeco would be swallowing up a smaller company in Peerless Insurance. While we are not happy about it, due to Peerless great rates and strong record, we understand these things happen.
Peerless Insurance still has great rates and writes all their policies on a Package (one policy for auto, home, umbrella) but that does go away 12/31/2011. Peerless is letting us put in as many new policyholders as we can until 12/31/2011 and … (0 comments)

insurance: Don't take NO for an answer on insurance issues! - 07/25/11 03:25 AM
I just left a comment on Stephanie Jacques blog because she was having a problem with a buyer due to a roof issue. Never, never, never let an insurance company tell you NO, it cannot be done! Guess what? Because THEY cannot do it doesn't mean it cannot be done!
There are insurance companies out there for every type of risk - vacant, needs a new roof, residential, commercial, whatever the real estate risk is.
Using an independent insurance broker is usually your best source. They know where to go, what insurance companies to talk to, which underwriter will be more … (1 comments)

insurance: What does minimum auto liability limits have to do with my home? - 06/07/11 03:12 AM
We just found our 3rd homeowner client in the last 2 weeks, carrying the very basic auto liability limits on their auto insurance policy. In NY State, those minimums are $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $10,000 of property damage. So let me paint a story for you to get the point.
Let’s say you cause a 3 car accident with no injuries (we’ll keep it simple). So your own damaged vehicle will be covered by your collision coverage on your auto policy. Vehicle #2 has $12,000 of damage and vehicle #3 has $9,000 of damage, totaling $21,000 of losses. … (4 comments)

insurance: Do you have an insurance related question I can answer? - 05/03/11 02:52 AM
The part of my work I really enjoy is helping other's, whether they become a client or not. We tell people all the time, stay with the insurance company you are with, you have a great rate and excellent coverage. Maybe change this or change that with the agent but stay with what you got.
Honesty and Integrity are what you will get with us because we believe what goes around, comes around. Helping other's when there is nothing in it for you, helps us be different.
So if I can answer any insurance related questions, I'd be more than happy … (0 comments)

insurance: Third Homeowner in 2 Weeks with Minimum Auto Liability Coverage! - 04/09/11 12:57 AM
Don't they know they are putting their house at risk to leins and judgements if causing an accident? Third time a homeowner client has allowed us to review their auto insurance coverage and we found the bare minimum coverage allowed in NY State - $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident/$10,000 property damage.
How many auto's are on the road worth more than $10,000? Don't you think that other driver won't come after you for the damages you caused in an at-fault accident?
Some consumers shop their auto insurance as if price matters (like those cheap auto insurance companies will have you believe) … (1 comments)
