It's been quite a roller coaster ride with the bank owned property we have been trying to purchase.  We had the winning bid, so we had the inspection and radon testing completed.  Ouch!  The radon level AVERAGED 19.5 (safe level is below 4), the furnace was shot - wouldn't even turn on and the roof had hail damage.  Obviously these were issues that were not obvious when we did our walk through for our initial bid.  So, we went back to the bank and said - Whoa!  We need to renegotiate or we'll have to bail.  Well you would have thought … (4 comments)

We just had the home inspection, sewer scope and radon test performed on the bank-owned property we bid on.  There were a few unpleasant surprises but not as many as there could have been.  Is that a good thing?
The sewer scope came out clean.  No problems.  The radon testing on the other hand, not so good.  The average reading was a whopping 19!  OUCH.  So, add radon mitigation to the cost of fix up.  The inspection was a mix of good and bad.  Absolutely no structural damage, which is great in an area known for bentonite.  The plumbing is good, … (1 comments)
