coon lake: It's a GREAT Time to Make a Deal on a Minnesota Lake Home! - 08/08/13 01:55 AM

Early this spring, I was contacted by a potential seller on Coon Lake in Anoka County. They were contemplating listing their lake home but hadn’t quite decided if this was the year to make a move or not. I completed a market analysis for their beautiful home and property. The current activity really spurred my interest in that area so I have been keeping close tabs on that market ever since. It was simply amazing to me how affordable lakeshore was in the north and east Twin Cities metro even as prices on homes were rising. It should have been … (0 comments)

coon lake: There's Still Time to Get a Lakeshore Deal Before the Snow Flies! - 09/27/12 08:23 AM
Every time I check on lakeshore pricing in the north Twin Cities metro, I am nothing short of amazed. Prices on lakeshore are amazingly affordable. I know that the media has been touting the real estate comeback for several weeks now, Yes some homes in some areas are starting to sell again. Yet, lakeshore properties are not flying off the MLS like other homes. This means there are tremendous opportunities out there if you want to own a lakehome in the north Minneapolis/St Paul metro area. Out of the hundreds of homes on the market in the Twin Cities only a … (2 comments)

coon lake: More Bars in Ham Lake IS a GOOD Thing! (We're Talking Cell Phone Bars!) - 02/24/09 09:47 AM
A late holiday present arrived to those living in Ham Lake, Linwood and Columbus near Carlos Avery. It appears a new cell phone tower is being constructed just to the north of the intersection of Crosstown and Broadway. We noticed the amazingly huge pole being raised a few days after Christmas. My teenagers, with their new internet accessible phones thought that maybe it was a mirage. After pinching each other to make certain they weren't dreaming, they cheered that our area of Ham Lake was finally going to be connected with the rest of the world! Now to some in this rural … (14 comments)

coon lake: Memorable Memorial Day—Another Wildlife Encounter in Ham Lake, Minnesota - 05/25/08 01:47 PM
Living on acreage can bring encounters with wildlife from time to time. We have hawks, eagles, blue jays and cardinals flying overhead. There are raccoons, skunks and every color of squirrel that run through our yard. We have seen grouse, pheasants and wild turkeys too.
A few of these encounters have been unusual. A few summers ago, a baby blue jay was kicked out of his nest and too frightened to fly. It spent the day in our lilac bush until it bolstered up the nerve to fly away. Two years ago we had a male pheasant that decided to feast … (33 comments)

coon lake: Fireworks are not Always in July—City Water/Sewer Discussion Ends Amid Controversy - 05/01/08 02:23 AM
Fireworks are not limited to celebrations in July. The City of Ham Lake's Mayor was at the center of a hullabaloo due to a misused metaphor that was construed as bigoted. The spark of controversy was amplified by local media last week when Mayor, Paul Meuiner as voiced his frustration as the only one on the bandwagon for development proposal including a town center and city water and sewer.
Read the full story of Mayor Meunier's controversial racial comment HERE.
That situation aside, the real news is that city water and sewer and the town center appears to be off the table … (13 comments)
