ham lake acreage: Walking a Dog When it's 20 Below--Visit Rosedale! - 01/27/19 03:59 PM
For the past few years or so, my household has been cat friendly and canine free. However, this winter we have a guest in our Ham Lake acreage home. Spencer is a St Paul resident who's normal life includes daily doggie daycare, keeping the bunnies out of his fenced backyard and sharing the sidewalks daily with his canine friends. Spending weeks in Anoka County without neighbor dogs to hang with has been boring. The squirrels and white-tailed deer that frequent our backyard are fun to watch from the window but when Spencer goes out, only the tracks in the snow remain.

ham lake acreage: Spring Brings Lots of Surprises! - 03/05/15 05:51 AM
Though this morning started out below zero, next week's forecast says SPRING! Yup, the weather men and women are predicting temperatures in the forty's and maybe even 50's! Green grass and budding flowers will not be far behind.

Every spring seems to bring some new critter to our Ham Lake backyard.  We live on small acreage near Coon Lake so animals are always wandering around our neighborhood. One year it was a newborn fawn and another year there was an opossum hanging on a tree.  We often have rafter of wild turkeys wandering through the backyard (yes, rafter IS the … (6 comments)

ham lake acreage: Wordless Wednesday (Almost)--Hungry Squirrel in Ham Lake! - 03/23/11 10:42 AM

After this particularly brutal winter in Anoka County, we felt a bit sorry for the squirrels living on our Ham Lake acreage. Even with several large oaks in our yard, the acorns were tough to dig out after several inches of snow. Our cat enjoys watching them play from the window so we set out food to attract them. Luckily, only the gray squirrels found it as the red ones have been known to eat cedar so we don't really want them on our front porch.

ham lake acreage: Speechless Sunday (Almost)--I Miss Snowmen at our Ham Lake Minnesota Home! - 01/23/11 10:38 AM

Don't let the date fool you. This photo is from my archives. This year we have had record breaking snow in Ham Lake, Minnesota....Recordbreaking all over the Twin Cities metro in fact. Yet, our yard is snowman-free. The boys are now much older. This photo was taken when we first moved to our home on Anoka County acreage...before the front porch had a railing and hydrangeas in front. I am a native Minnesotan but really never got into skiing, snowmobiling or ice skating. I always liked snowmen however...and I real miss having them in our Ham Lake yard!

ham lake acreage: Ham Lake, MN Real Estate Market Statistics 3rd Quarter 2010 - 10/25/10 02:49 AM
The City of Ham Lake has a rich history. Incorporated in 1974, Ham Lake became a city after over a hundred years of humble but steady growth. The area was first settled in 1855 by a group of Scottish men on the southwest side of Ham Lake. Though, I can only assume that the lake itself got its name due to its unusual “ham hock” shape, the community started out with a different name. The original name of the community was Glen Carey, which is the Scottish translation of “beautiful valley”. Following a prairie fire in 1857, the first settlers moved … (0 comments)
