home staging: Mr and Mrs Clean Live Here! - 02/26/15 07:01 AM
A home buyer should impressed by the cleanliness of your home from the moment they step over the threshold.  PERIOD!   While the first step in home staging is decluttering, the second is to be cleaning. Not just “surface clean” either.   A seller must DEEP clean the home!  Potential home buyers will be assessing your property to determine if it is THEIR dream home.  Whose dream includes a half-eaten peanut butter sandwich on the kitchen counter and a dirty cat box in the utility room?     Sadly, there are places sellers will overlook when too eager to get their home … (12 comments)

home staging: Declutter NOW for your 2015 Home Sale…and make a few bucks too! - 11/07/14 04:53 AM
Step one is selling a home isn’t calling a REALTOR®. It is decluttering your home.  Let’s face it. Most people don’t live in a perfectly “staged” home.  Homes are lived in and full of clutter.  And do you really want to pack and move all that accumulated STUFF to a new home? Probably not.  So if you want to sell a home next spring it might be time to donate unwanted items.  Or better yet, sell all those extras.

I know, I know. It’s hard to have a garage sale at any time of the year. But in Minnesota in … (2 comments)

home staging: Create Your Own Art to Stage YOUR Home for Sale! - 03/04/13 06:51 AM
For many years we didn't have much in the way of art on our walls. Short of framed school portraits of our kids and drawings magneted to the fridge, we were somewhat artless. It wasn't that we didn't go and look for that perfect painting for over the sofa or fireplace. There were so very few items we could agree were worth a few hundred dollars. What if we grew tired of it after all? So after almost a decade of bare walls, we now have art and it wasn't expensive either.

Art and decor is a really important part … (19 comments)

home staging: When the Color Looks Better on the Paint Chip! - 02/21/12 09:15 AM

About a decade ago now, some close friends built a new home in an Oakdale development. Our own home was just on the other side of Silver Lake in North St. Paul so we drove through the development several times during the construction. We monitored the new community as the first dozen or so homes were constructed in the new neighborhood. This development didn’t have extremely restrictive covenants regarding the exterior of the home. The resulting neighborhood was very eclectic with assorted styles of homes. The sidings were of differing colors and materials so each home was truly unique. … (10 comments)

home staging: Beware of Décor! Tips to Declutter Before the For Sale Sign Goes Up on Your Home! - 03/25/08 02:15 AM
As much as Location, Location, Location has been the number one real estate mantra for decades, decluttering and depersonalizing has to be a close second. But what is clutter? Hard to tell in this eclectic world! Martha Stewart has one style and theme restaurants another. Go into any TGIFridays throughout the United States and the décor covers almost every inch of wall space! No wonder when as an Anoka County Realtor, I make a that initial visit to a potential seller's home my response can often be, "Oh my, we have some work to do!" Americans have too much stuff! We … (30 comments)

home staging: Take the Home Off the Market or Stay the Course—What Should a Seller Do During the Holidays? - 11/13/07 10:32 AM
It is getting to be that time of year again. The holidays are upon us but the house hasn't sold.
What should a seller do?
At first inclination most sellers opt to withdraw their home from the market believing that the preoccupation with the holiday season puts few buyers in the market. While there is truth to this belief, sellers can be ignoring another more important truth: Those buyers looking at houses during the holidays are very serious buyers.
There are not many tire-kickers running around with a Realtor when there are presents to buy and gifts to wrap. November, December and … (60 comments)
