Take a tour of one of Fairhaven's most popular neighborhoods, close to Marine Park and the Bellingham Cruise terminal.It's a neighborhood of mostly older craftsman style homes with lots of character, with a sprinkling of condos as well as some newer homes and additions. It's a nice short distance into the Historic District and also close to the dog park. Great for bicycles and close to the bay for kayakers. fairhaven: Recent Growth in Fairhaven - 01/26/09 11:16 AM
According to an article in today's Bellingham Hearld most of the recent growth in Fairhaven has been in Condos and apartments.
Fairhaven's percentage of growth in multifamily units has outpaced downtown. The data shows Fairhaven has grown 83.8 percent, while in the Central Business District the growth rate has been 36.5 percent. Fairhaven is now more than 70 percent multifamily units compared to residential homes. The growth has all taken place in the commercial core. It has helped invigorate the historic shopping area, as well as driven an increased awareness by residents of planning issues.

If you're looking for unique gifts for the holidays Fairhaven is a great place to do your shopping. You're not going to find any malls here or for that matter any of the national chain stores. Fairhaven shops are all unique. Being enamored with wood as I am, (I've dabbled in wood carving, building, and believe it or not I've planted close to a quarter of one million trees in my years as a tree planter) I always enjoy seeing beautiful things made out of wood.

fairhaven: The Fairhaven Neighborhood - Bellingham, WA - 07/10/08 07:08 AM
Fairhaven is the one of the southside neighborhoods of Bellingham, It was founded in 1880. It is one of Bellinghams most desireable neighborhoods, with its proximity to the water and it's quaint historic district. It features Marine Park with access to the Bay for kayakers and awesome views of the San Juan Islands. 
Fairhaven is also the site of the Bellingham Cruise Terminal which is home to the Alaska Ferry, and considered the southern end of the Alaska Marine Highway System.
