The department of licensing in Washington State will begin issuing an enhanced driver's license and ID card in January 2008.
The new card will securely denotes citizenship and identity and will be an acceptable alternative to a passport for re-entry into the U.S. Land and see border crossings. The license will cost an additional $15 and will be available in time to meet the new tighter document projections at U.S. borders beginning next January.

Mayor Tim Douglas and Puget Sound Energy Vice President of Energy Cal Shirley will dedicate a new Solar Power Demonstration Project Thursday, Oct 25, at Maritime Heritage Park's Environmental Learning Center. It will includes an interactive kiosk and real-time display of the power the project generates. Puget Sound Energy awarded  the system to the city in recognition of Bellingham's having been named the nation's most successful Green Power Community by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. PSE has also awarded the city a $20,000 grant to install another renewable energy facility.

Joe's Garden was founded by Joe Bertero, in 1927. Joe was a native  of Italy, He and his wife Ann started what has become a Bellingham institution.  The small farm changed hands in the 1980's but kept the name. It is an oasis in the city,sSeveral acres of vegetablesand berries surrounded by homes and condos. You can see Joe's produce in many local markets just marked as Joe's, everyone in town knows what that means, fresh locally grown Bellingham's own. If you want to visit Joe's they are on the corner of 30th Street and Taylor Ave.

The Happy Valley neighborhood is within close proximity to Western Washington University as well as Fairhaven which makes it a very popular neighborhood. There are lots of students there as well as families. Most of the homes seem to have been built since the 60s, with lots of apartments and duplexes being built near the University in recent years. There is still lots of open space in this neighborhood, that provides habitat for deer and other small animals. Some of the streets don't even have sidewalks and are more like alleys.

Yes it is true, Bellingham actually has an interational airport(BLI). The airport is growing and has 200,000 travellers a year passing through it's gates according to the Port of Bellingham. They call it a full service airport serveing the commercial, general aviation, and corporate air transportation needs of the region. It is about a 40 minute trip to  SeaTac airport.
It is a small airport so it has it' lots easier to navigate and deal with than the larger airports of the world.

Bellingham's Community Food Co-op, natural food at it's finest. 
The Co-op was fonded in 1970 in Fairhaven as a 900-square-foot store with fewer than 10 items has grown to an 11,000-member-strong natural grocery store and soon expanding again to a second store in the Cordata Neighborhood. I remember that old store and the early days as I worked in the co-op wrapping cheese and sorting things in exchange for my membership. 
Membership is encouraged but everyone is welcome to shop there.

The Whatcom Museum of History & Art is one of the most interesting and unusual buildings in Bellingham. The red brick Victorian building is trimmed with Chuckanut sandstone. It houses some permanent exhibits of cultural and natural artifacts that trace Bellingham's early history as well as a vast collection of images of local historical value.
