oklahoma: My Youngest Speaks Again (Humor) - 08/25/11 02:36 AM
My wife and I were at a doctor's appointment and her Mother (NeNe, who is in her 60s) and my wife's brother (Uncle who is almost 20) were watching our kids.
The following conversation took place and only the names have been omitted to protect the innocent, zinged and embarrassed.

Uncle: Do you know how old I will be on my next birthday?
My Youngest (8 yrs old): hmmmmmmm.......You will be 20
Uncle: Right!
Youngest: Wow, you are OLD!
NeNe: Hahahahahahahahhaa
Youngest: What are you laughing at? You're like 80!

oklahoma: Dolphins - 07/21/11 06:33 AM
Dolphins at Florida aquarium.Based on his expression you would think the dolphin is sitting on his head!
I believe he was just squinting from the sun, but it looks funny. We even got to swim with the dolphins. Okay, sit in the water while the dolphins swam past us. Almost looks like the dolphin is watching us.

oklahoma: Return of the Redneck Slip n Slide - 07/19/11 10:13 AM
Since we were on day 18 of 100+ heat (we have now made it 21 straight days and many more to come), the children demanded that the Redneck Slip 'n Slide be reopened.
Turn out was smaller than previous years. I think 105 to 110 degrees and 50-80% humidity even stops the kids from playing in the water. I didn't slide this time, but I was so wet from sweating I looked like I did.
Going a little slow

oklahoma: How to Make a Pot Roast: Don't Forget to Ask Questions - 07/15/11 03:16 AM
My mother always cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking. My mother was doing this, because she had seen her mother and grandmother doing it.

One day my mother asked her mother: "Why do you cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking it?"

Her mother replied: "That is the way my mother always did it."

So, my mother asked her grandmother: "Why do you cut both ends off the pot roast before cooking it?"

Her grandmother looked at her a little funny and replied: "Daughter, I cut both ends off the pot … (11 comments)

oklahoma: Redneck Slip-n-Slide or Redneck Water Park - 07/12/11 05:48 AM

This works quite well on flat to gentle sloping ground for the big kids. The little guys need a hill to get going. The younger kids run and plop down and lose most of their forward momentum.

oklahoma: Baking Cakes to Relax - 07/08/11 11:07 AM

A"simple" request. Half a basketball. The letters and lines are all hand cut fondant. I like the taste of it, so I use it when I can. Started using a marsh mellow fondant which is easier to work with and the rest of the family likes to eat.

oklahoma: What Should I Look For in a Home? - 07/08/11 06:14 AM

These are some good suggestions to look at when buying a home---whether a first time buyer or repeat buyer.
I would add that you need to watch out for the "OOOHHH, PRETTY!" syndrome. (The original blogger lightly mentioned this at the end of his post.) It is very easy to walk into home, especially new construction, and get caught up in the new carpet, fresh paint, no scratches or dings in woodwork or flooring, shiny tile and perfect grout joints.
Additional Questions to ask or look at:
1: Attic insulation (and new construction ask about wall insulation too)
2: Signs … (2 comments)

oklahoma: July 4th, Baseball game and fireworks - 07/05/11 03:35 AM

Hot dogs, no Apple Pie and Baseball!
It was HOT and HUMID! We got just enough rain to make the humidity around 100%. It was just like being in a sauna. We had nine people at the game, so we got our group announced and everyone got a free Redhawks hat. Redhawks won 3-2.
We had a good time eating junk food watching the game. We had a gloves ready, but there wasn't a foul ball within 75' of us.

There was a fireworks display after the game to celebrate the 4th. I tried to take some pictures, but … (4 comments)

oklahoma: Trimming Trees is not for me....Anymore - 06/30/11 12:10 PM
Last year we purchased a foreclosure property to rehab and flip. Immediately after closing I head home and change into my "work" clothes. I grab the chainsaw and 13' ladder and head out. Oh, almost forgot...grab the cellphone, my wife requires it, since I am going to be alone. (What a worrywort.) You see, the property had not been properly maintained for years on the outside and was abused on the inside. I figured I would start clearing the tree limbs off the roof, out of the guttering and try to get the shrubbery and volunteer trees under control. Get the … (18 comments)

oklahoma: First Post...sorta - 06/20/11 10:48 AM
Brand new to Active Rain and just getting a feel for it.

Central Oklahoma, small town/rural. We have a stable to declining market. Local markets are driven (mostly) by school district. Some areas you can have one town's address, a different town's phone # and another town's school district. (Love it when out of area agents list a property in the non-preferred School District but claim it is in the preferred one because it has that town as its mailing address.)
Quite a few of our counties are not fully automated and you must search the courthouse by hand to … (9 comments)
