tara colquitt: BNI: My First Referral That Became A Client - 04/23/08 11:33 PM
Well, a seed I have sown has finally shown some financial life.
BNI (Business Network International) is a referral based network organization. There are a couple of blogs about it in the Rain if you would like more information or Google it. Great concept.
I joined in February and have received a few referrals, but Tuesday was my first client. And it wasn't an easy sale.
The scenario: Client was in the middle of a refi of his pool hall. Mid-score 638. Everything was fine until an old and PAID utility bill appeared on his report. Concurrently, the criteria for his loan changed from … (23 comments)

tara colquitt: Buckle Your Seat Belts: Advertising and Credit - 04/21/08 04:18 PM
Just a little observation.
Most car insurance commercials talk about their rates and how a good driving record is rewarded. I must admit, I don't really hear them anymore. Except the Allstate guy. What a voice. But I heard something today that caught my attention.
We don't check your credit.
It is well known in the industry that your credit is a factor in, well, everything. But it is not mentioned in 'polite' company. But this insurance company has found a marketing slogan that will garner them record calls.
Now, I have no idea of their rates. But the fact is with so many people's … (15 comments)

tara colquitt: On The Radio Whoa Oh Oh - 04/04/08 11:24 PM

No, I can't sing, but I can talk. I can talk alot. And my business passion is helping people purchase their first home or an investment property.
Today at 3pm, EST I will be On The Radio Whoa Oh Oh.
It's not my first time being on the air, but considering I was the person that just last year hypervented (well, almost) when on a podcast I think I have come a long way. It will be fun.
And, of course, I will be talking about credit.
Join me on the Royal Bay Mortgage Show on 900AM, WURD … (20 comments)

tara colquitt: Poor Credit? Don't Bank On It - 04/01/08 10:59 PM
Most people usually think about their credit when they have to use it. Particularly when they are about to purchase a home. However, in today's climate, credit can be the difference between employment and unemployment. Particularly in certain fields.
Yesterday, Good Morning America commented that 200,000 banking jobs would be lost over the next year. I know for certain how this can affect those employees.
Case 1: My fellow BNI member is paying a debt she is disputing simply because as a VP she can't afford any derogatory items on her report.
Case 2: A caller on a radio show stated she was denied … (18 comments)

tara colquitt: Little League Baseball and Credit - 03/26/08 08:51 AM
I was watching the news this morning. A story came on regarding a Little League treasurer stealing $62,000 over the course of 3 years. He was being sentenced today. I didn't think too much more about it until a few minutes ago.
I Googled to find the story. Instead I found two others about a treasurer and president of other leagues stealing funds.
I am making a prediction. Well, it is probably already in effect. Before anyone can take a position where money is involved their credit will be checked. I know in the banking field and most Federal jobs that an employee's … (15 comments)

tara colquitt: "Who Am I?" - Can A Simple Riddle Hold The Key To Your Success? - 03/21/08 10:49 PM
Not my content, but I thought it was a good exercise to post.
“I am your constant companion. I will push you forward to success or I will drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. 80% of what you do, you might as well hand over to me and I will do it promptly and I will do it correctly. I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me. Show me what you’d like to have done, and after a couple of lessons, I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great people. … (19 comments)

tara colquitt: TUT... A Note from the Universe - 03/19/08 11:43 PM
Take it from the farmer in me, Tara... The more seeds you sow, the more plants we'll grow.  I love wearing overalls,     The Universe
I subscribe to a daily inspirational quote series. It is amazing how some of the writings are right on target when I read them. Is it Divine Intervention or do we create our reality? I don't know the answer, but I know it helps me focus and recognize my blessings. This one today is so ME! My quote on my profile and e-mail signature is from Thomas Edison:

tara colquitt: The Movie “Maxed Out”: Not a Movie Review - 03/07/08 11:28 PM
I am being a little facetious when I say this is not a movie review, since it is a movie and I am talking about it. But it wasn’t a blockbuster and won’t be since it did not have anyone famous to promote it. Directed by James D. Scurlock in 2005, I wonder if Michael Moore had been the guiding force behind it if more people would be aware of it.I first heard about it last summer and immediately ordered it on Netflix. It was spellbinding and made me realize the enormity of the problem. I mean quantitatively. Everyone knows they … (22 comments)

tara colquitt: What the Dentist and Your Credit Have in Common - 02/27/08 07:06 AM
While sitting in the chair after receiving the injections to make sure I didn’t feel any pain, I realized I am still aware of everything. Hmm…having your teeth scaled is not a fun adventure. So, why am I going through this experience? You may ask the same of your credit. First off, when was your last check up?You are entitled to a free credit report every year. To order yours, click on:Free Credit ReportJust like the dentist studies your x-rays, you need to review your reports. Are the items being reported correctly? Are they even yours? If you don’t think so, every … (24 comments)

tara colquitt: What is Credit Restoration? - 01/07/08 11:05 AM
Many people think credit restoration is illegal or immoral. This is simply not true. I am here to give the facts; just the facts.
Credit restoration removes derogatory items from the credit report using the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It does not remove the financial or moral responsibility for the debt. However, since we are all judged by what is on our credit reports, it is desirable for our 'blemishes' not to show on it.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is an American federal law...that regulates … (18 comments)
