cedar city ut real estate: Tuesdays Quote: - 04/07/08 06:43 PM
Every so often I have emails with inspirational quotes that come.  Some I read and think about others I really like and want to share.  Todays thought comes from the 1 man that I wish were running for President, Colin Powell.  The quote is: "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failures."
This is such good advice.  There are really no get rich quick schemes that are really effective.  The only really effective way really is no secret, and Colin Powell said it very simply in this quote.  Have a Great … (8 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Baseball Thoughts....................... - 04/07/08 01:46 PM
Well the Baseball Season is a week old.  There are some strange things this season.  I would have never thought that the Detroit Tigers would be 0-6.  I know that there relief pitching is suspect, but with that lineup I would think that the would pound teams and win 10-9 games or something.  They also have good starting pitching.  I know that it is way early in the season but that is surprising!
The other huge week one surprises are the Orioles and Cardinals both at 5-1.  Both teams were picked to finish at the bottom of their respective divisions.  Once … (7 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Library................. - 04/06/08 07:04 PM
I know that I have discussed books that I have read that I have found to be very helpful to me in this business.  I am undertaking the process of developing a Success Library.  By that I mean books that are indispensible to success as a Realtor.  I have a few that I have come across that I absolutely love, some that don't directly relate to Real Estate: Like Og Mandino's Greatest Salesman in the World, and Stephen R. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Sucessful People, as well as his Principled Centered Leadership.
I have some Real Estate specific books that … (4 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Time.... - 04/06/08 09:45 AM
As I sit here on Sunday afternoon feeding my adiction, the thought came to me.  That I needed to remember to take time to do the important things in life.  I need to step away from the computer once in awhile (sounds sacreligious I know) to spend time with my beautiful wife and family.  This time should actually be spent doing something that doesn't involve Real Estate.  I also need to make sure that I give Darcy the chance to take some time to do what she wants to do whether it involves me or not.
I also need to take … (6 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: In Between Weather. - 04/05/08 10:49 AM
Hi Greetings from Cedar City!  We were hoping for a nice weekend weather wise this week.  While it isn't awful, it isn't great either.  It is one of those weekends that makes it difficult to enjoy the benefits of living in beautiful Cedar City.  I mentioned in a blog ealier that Outdoor Life had listed Cedar City in the top 20 places to live for enjoying the outdoors.  This weekend has been cool, windy and high clouds, which makes it difficult to get out and enjoy the beautiful mountains here.
I will admit that it doesn't help that I have been … (0 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Secret Agents - 04/04/08 09:47 AM
How many agents out there are secret agents?  By that I mean do you wear name tags or corporate apparel when you are out and about?  I have to admit, I don't always wear my name tag, and I don't have a lot of corporate apparel.  I have business clothes, and try to dress like a professional, there is just nothing that says that I am a realtor.  One of the aspects of the training that I blogged on yesterday was that we need to be agents when we are out and about.
The other aspect of wearing your profession, is … (12 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Expired Listings - 04/04/08 09:02 AM
Yesterday I read Lissa Uder's blog on Expired listings, it was a good blog and obviously garnered a lot of attention.  I decided rather than just add my thoughts to her blog, I would write down what we have decided to do in light of the National and State Do Not Call Lists.  We simply send a letter.  We have a letter that we try to get out the morning that the home expired.  Right on the bottom we have the disclaimer that if they have relisted, we wish them luck in selling their home and please disregard this letter.
We … (8 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: In House Training - 04/03/08 03:06 PM
Today was one of the days that I am glad that we work for a National Franchised Agency.  We had a great training on our corporate provided web site.  It was great!  I only wish that I didn't have a nasty cold and really could have enjoyed it better.  I was amazed at the tools that ERA has provided us via the internet and the corporate web site!  Our broker arranged to have a national corporate trainer come in and do the training.
Today was one of the days that I didn't mind the split so much.  Anyway just thought that … (1 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Survived Opening Day! - 04/02/08 08:55 PM
Well, now that Opening Day is over, I can honestly say that I survived!  It is good to have baseball back after a real bad off season.  (The Mitchell Report, etc..)  I must say this, I was very impressed with the Washington Nationals new park, everything they showed on ESPN looked spectacular!  Great park.  Having grown up in the 70's and 80"s, I don't miss the cookie cutter multi use stadiums!  I love the new parks in Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh.  I didn't love Riverfront, Busch Stadium (old version), and Three Rivers Stadium.  I will miss the shrine that is … (2 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: The Most Difficult Part - 04/01/08 02:56 PM
The most difficult part of this market for me is, 9 months ago to a year ago, a friend of ours that has since moved out of town called us to see what he could sell his home for.  We did a CMA and came up with a price where we thought that the home would sell.  He wanted to think about i since he had moved away when the market was still insanely hot and was a little disappointed in the value at the time.  While he was thinking about whether to sell or not, he found another renter for … (5 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: April - 04/01/08 01:21 PM
April Fools day came a couple of days early here in Cedar City.  On Sunday afternoon we enjoyed another couple of inches of snow.  So I guess that March did go out like a lamb, albeit a frozen one.  The snow did make everything look like a lamb.  I know that complaining about the weather is an easy thing to do.  We do enjoy the moisture, or I should say that come summer, we will enjoy the water.  It is also a good thing to be reminded that even though we love the warm Spring temperatures, we don't always get what … (2 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Another Book That I would Recommend - 03/29/08 09:15 AM
I have been re-reading Real Estate Success for Dummies, by Dirk Zeller.  I highly recommend it to any Realtor.  It is written int he Dummy format, but it contains a lot of great information that goes beyond the sales training to run your business as a business.  It takes you through marketing to FSBOs and Expired listings through time management, and it gives you sample scripts.  I read it right after it first came out, and I will be honest, I had forgotten much of the content.
Old timer or Newbie I HIGHLY Recommend this book.  I have found several things … (8 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Opening Day.... - 03/28/08 10:29 PM
Opening day has different meanings to different people.  I could be the day that the new store or shop opens up the pre grand opening opening or something.  It could mean the starting of the fishing or hunting season, but for me it only means 1 thing BASEBALL IS BACK!  I am excited, I am not one of those junkies that has to watch every game that is broadcast, but I do usually catch the plays of the day on Sportscenter.  I try to watch as many games as my schedule and my wife allows me to.  She really isn't that … (0 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Success thoughts - 03/28/08 05:46 PM
I was reading an email that included some very inspirational quotes, I found it to be very helpful.  I was thinking how I could incorporate that into a blog.  A quote that I thought I really needed to focus on was one by Vince Lombardi, the Great Football Coach.  The quote is: "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."
I thought that the word success could easily … (2 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Market in The Cedar City Area - 03/28/08 09:04 AM
I was just doing a check on the MLS to refresh my memory of the homes that have been listed during the past week in the Cedar City area.  What a great selection!  It is a very opportunistic market!  We have had a great selection from starter homes to executive homes, to even gentlemen's ranches.  There is also a good selection in the many surrounding communities!
Whether you are looking to buy your first house, or looking to move into that dream house, NOW is a GREAT TIME to buy!  These are just the home that have come into the market … (2 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Thought for Friday - 03/27/08 07:20 PM
I am reading "Success as a Realt Estate Agent for Dummies" written by Dirk Zeller.  It is a good book.  It is one that I think especially every new agent should buy and read within the first couple of months of their career.  I also believe that it is good to read materials like this for experienced agents.  There is always something that we can learn, or learn to do differently.  I am a firm believer that once you stop learning, you stop being as great of a value to yourself, your family and your clients.
I am still about 1/2 … (0 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Photgraphy Tip - 03/27/08 09:31 AM
We have all seen horrible photographs of listings.  Every MLS has them!  On Tuesday, Darcy and I were at a training that Realtor.com put on.  One of the best parts of the training was when Max Pigman went over some of the new technology and cameras.
To make a long story short, he had a tip that was so simple that it was one of those moments where you say to yourself, why didn't I think of that.  Most Realtors use cameras with the pop up or built in flash systems.  These are handy and great, but to photograph a large … (5 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: The Fort Cedar Commerce Center - 03/26/08 08:49 PM
Phase 1 of the Fort Cedar Commerce Center construction has begun!  This is another of the new commercial area in city limits that is underway.  The exciting thing about the Fort Cedar Commerce Center is that it has frontage on Interstate 15.  It is a center with about 13.5 acres to be built into commercial suites.  The specification look great!  Phase one consists of 2 10,000 square foot buildings that can be divided into 2 5,000 square foot areas with fenced storage areas.  there will also be 2 9,400 square foot buildings that can be divided into 1,500 square foot areas.

cedar city ut real estate: Are We at Least Entering the Turn? - 03/26/08 09:57 AM
In office meeting today, the broker and most of the other agents in the office commented that they had seen a lot more positive activity in the market in the past couple of weeks.  More qualified buyers, sellers that understood that in order to sell, they had to price according to the market.  Although the past couple of weeks haven't been great for us, It did make me wonder if were at least entering the corner, prior to being able to turn it.
Our broker has a friend that is a broker in San Diego.  Our broker mentioned that his friend … (5 comments)

cedar city ut real estate: Real Estate Marketing and Technology Training. - 03/25/08 03:26 PM
We just got back from the Real Estate Marketing and Technology Training class in Las Vegas.  It was actually pretty good training.  It looks like Realtor.com has been listening to the discontent that agents had been expressing.  They have addes some great features to Realtor.com, of course, they come at a price.  That is the nature of the beast!
There was a lot of information.  My problem is that we got up at 5:00 am to drive to Las Vegas, did the class and drove home, so my already mushy mind is really gonzo!  They are working to make it so … (2 comments)
