houses for sale in cedar city utah: Saturdays Quote Revisited - 07/03/09 06:27 PM
I came across another quote that I really liked.  It talks about winning without coming in first place:
"If you cannot win, make the one ahead of you break the record." ~ Jan Mckeithen
I love this quote!  If you're not first, at least make the first place person break all sorts of records.  That way you push everyone, including yourself to new heights!  Whether you measure by units sold, volume or both, you can really use this philosophy to make yourself and whoeve may beat you to be truly great.
On a side note, this is post #500 for the … (2 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Happy Birthday America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 07/02/09 11:43 PM
I know that I am a day early, but I wanted to get my birthday wishes out to this great country, and to do so, I chose to use a poem that was read by an American Legend, John Wayne.

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Thursday or Friday's Quote................... - 07/02/09 05:13 PM
I am not sure if this will post Thursday or Friday, but either way, I think that it is an appropriate quote for the times that we live in.  I am going back to the Wizzard of Westwood for this quote, John Wooden.
Consider the rights of others before your own feelings, and the feelings of others before your own rights.
This is the core of what ails us as communities, neigbhorhoods, families and as a Nation.  Too often we are much too preoccupied with our feelings and our rights that we don't take the time nor effort to consider anyone … (3 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Thursdays Thought Revisited............ - 07/01/09 10:23 PM
As we as a Nation approach the 4th of July.  I had a thought which is amplified by a song sung by Merle Haggard.  Merle Haggard has been called the poet of the common man, and these lyrics sum up what I have been thinking.
The song is call the Fightin' Side of Me:
I hear people talkin' bad, About the way we have to live here in this country, Harpin' on the wars we fight, An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be. An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides, An' standin' up for things they believe in. When they're … (2 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Thursdays Quote................... - 07/01/09 10:04 PM
I was looking for something that I could write that was positive and helpful, not just for me, but for everyone.  I do what I normally do, I start reading quotes.  There are some great quotes out there to help us in trying times.  I am writing this hoping that things are improving for people out there.
The quote that I found comes from an actress, who was in one of my all time favorite comedies, Cheers.  I love that show, it was so well written, and acted that each week you felt like you were with old friends, almost being … (0 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Dangerous Habit............... - 06/29/09 08:20 PM
I will be the first to tell you that I liked the pre cell phone days.  I liked be able to be invisible for an afternoon or weekend.  Heck, even a night out with no interruptions was great.  Times have changed, as have people's expectations.  Clients expect to be able to talk to you when they want to talk to you.  It is a concession that I have grudgingly made over the years.  You have to have a cell phone if you want to list and sell houses, even in Cedar City, Utah.
I will also admit, I am still fairly … (0 comments)

It is easily found by exiting at Exit 59 off I15 and go East to Main Street, the Park is on the Northeast Corner of the intersection.  For more information www.groovefestutah.com.

houses for sale in cedar city utah: What a Great Day!!! - 06/20/09 04:53 PM
We had a great day today!  I had another Family Reunion this week in Parowan, it was for my mother's side of the family.  It is always great to see and reaquaint yourself with your family.  The rain stayed away long enough for lunch to be done with and a lot of visiting to take place.
Darcy and I then had to drive up to Brian Head to show condos to a new client.  It was a lot of fun, Brian Head is a ski resort town, and is very beautiful.  Today it also had a lot of rain and hail.  … (2 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: We're Back!!! - 06/16/09 09:43 AM
Back from the family reunions in Salt Lake, man you forget what real traffic is like!  Here rush hour last at most 15 minutes and means that you wait an extra minute or two to turn.  That is what I like about living in a smaller city, it is much more relaxing.
We had a great time at the reunions, the main one was just for My Grandparents posterity, meaning Uncles, cousins and their kids, grandkids etc.  There was another that Darcy and I went to after for a few minutes for the posterity of my great-great-grandfather.
We got … (2 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Family Reunion.............. - 06/11/09 09:03 PM
This doesn't have a lot to do with buying or selling houses in Cedar City, Utah, but it is a blog to say that Darcy and I are off a little later this afternoon to a family reunion in Northern Utah.  South Jordan to be exact, it is the reunion for my Dad's family.  It started in the 1970's as a birthday party for my Grandmother, as she passed on, it stayed a staple in my family.
Don't get me wrong, I love the opportunity to see cousins that I only see at these reunions.  It is also a time of … (2 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Our Place in History.......................... - 06/06/09 05:34 PM

Yesterday, we commemorated the crucial battle in the European Theater of World War II.  Like many, I say a heartfelt thanks to those soldiers that fought and sacrificed in that battle.  It was a tremendous achievement and the turning point in the war in Europe.  So many things could have proven disastrous to the Allied attack, the weather broke just long enough for the invasion.  The sea although very rough, could have been worse.  The counterintelligence ruse worked as the Germans held back their tanks, believing that it was a diversion, that the real attack was yet to comeEven with … (7 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Active Rain is Da Bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 05/29/09 01:43 PM
I had a wonderful opportunity to talk to a fellow Active Rainer, Sally Cheeseman, this afternoon.  It was great, one of the agents in our office has a brother and sister moving to the beautiful state of Hawaii, so I told him that he should call Sally, she works with Military Relocations and always seems to be warm and positive in her posts here on the Rain.  So when he called her they got talking about how he happened to call her, he told her that he found her here on Active Rain. (at our suggestion)
Unfortunately, my realtor friend isn't … (13 comments)

The Utah Summer Games is an Olympic styled event drawing competitors from around the country in all age groups.  It has been a staple in the summer in Cedar City for over 20 years and it grows each and every year.  It is a great spectacle to bring the entire family to even if no one is competing.  This year the preliminary events will begin on June 3rd and continue to June 21st.  The Opening Ceremonies will be June 11th at the Eccles Coliseum on the campus of Southern Utah University.
Come early and enjoy as people of all ages and … (3 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Rainy Friday.................. - 05/29/09 09:45 AM
It has been a rainy Friday, who am I kidding it has been more than a week of rainy weather.  I am not complaining!  I love the rain in the Spring and Summer, it is cool and refreshing!  Here in Cedar City, we are fortunate to still be close enough to open range where there is still and abundance of sage brush, juniper and pinion pine trees.  There is nothing like the smell in the wind with those fragrances mixed in!  It is especially nice after the rain stops and the sun creeps out magnifying the aroma!
What does this have to … (4 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Memorial Day..... - 05/23/09 02:49 PM
I have written often about my Uncle who fought in North Africa and on Omaha Beach on D Day.  There were other battles here and there, the last being the Battle of the Bulge, before he was sent home wounded to recover.  I am sure that had the World War II continued past the time that he needed to recover, he would have tried to go back and fight some more.  What he was fighting for meant that much to him!
I am not going to put fancy things like photos or clip art in this article, because going by who … (6 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Graduation thoughts............. - 05/21/09 07:33 PM
Darcy and I have been blessed to have our niece live with us.  She has been a lot of fun to have at the house, she is a great kid and really is the type of person that never sees the bad in anyone.  She was having issues with her choice of friends and so she came to live with us.  We have had the pleasure of having her from the end of her freshman year of High School.  She will graduate from High School this afternoon.
She has struggled with school, reading isn't one of her strengths and she honestly … (6 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Utah's New Governor - 05/19/09 03:18 AM
Utah's new Govenor, Gary Herbert is a Realtor.  This is great news for us here in Utah, to have an advocate for Real Estate in Utah.  Many people outside the State of Utah have no idea what I am talking about.  Our current Govenor, Jon Huntsman, has accepted the position as Ambassador to China.  This opens the door for Gary Herbert, our Lt. Governor, to become the new Governor.
The change of course becomes official once Governor Huntsman is confirmed by the US Senate for the post as Ambassador to China.  I for one welcome the opportunity to have a Governor … (5 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Mondays Ramblings............................. - 05/04/09 09:41 AM
We are so lucky in Cedar City and Iron County!  We listed an expired property this weekend, and today as we're getting the fliers ready we needed to call the former listing agent to get the keys to the property and to take them their yard sign back.  This broker/agent was so nice!  She completely understood what had happened and seemed excited that we were able to get the sellers to agree to a more market competitive price.  It is an amazing profession that we work in when everyone acts like a professional!
On another note of my rambling, this post … (4 comments)

houses for sale in cedar city utah: Happy Birthday Mom - 04/30/09 05:41 PM
Today is my mother's birthday.  I would give anything to call her up or go by and tell her Happy Birthday and take her to lunch.  I lost my mother to ALS or Lou Gerhig's disease 6 years ago.  I know that it wasn't only me that lost her, all of my family also lost her.  So to her I have a Poem for her birthday.  I was going to save it for all mothers and grandmothers on Mother's Day, but I just felt that I would use it today.
