the c team real estate: Great Book..... - 01/02/08 05:14 PM
I just finished read a great book that Darcy got me for Christmas.  It is entitled "No Greater Love" by Todd Anton.  Darcy, knowing of my love of baseball and history especially World War II found the perfect gift for me to read, and I highly recommend it to anyone here in the United States.  While it may not directly have a bearing on the Real Estate industry, it's message is inspiring and uplifting.
Mr. Anton is a history teacher in Phelan, California.  He put together a great book talking to former professional baseball players about their service in the Military … (1 comments)

the c team real estate: New Year....... - 12/29/07 04:19 PM
As the New Year approaches, I have to say that I am excited.  It will be good to begin the year without the unrealiestic expectations that we had entering into the past couple of years.  The thought that we just had to have a Real Estate Sales Agent license meant that we were in line for a lot of money.  Commissions were just going to roll into our bank accounts.
This year, reality finally came to most, if not all Realtors.  There was still business being done, it was just being done by Realtors that worked hard.  I think that is … (4 comments)

the c team real estate: Goals - 12/28/07 09:12 PM
I know that I have blogged about goals before, but we are still working out our goals.  Trying to get them nailed down.  I know that the way to go about it is to set long term goals then fill in the steps of reaching those goals with short term and intermediate goals.
I guess that my biggest concern, as I quote Stephen Covey is that we don't put our ladders against the wrong wall.  We, like everyone else, have taken a hit in the past year, so the challenge to re establish our past levels of success.  Then use those … (3 comments)

the c team real estate: Mostly back............. - 12/28/07 04:44 PM
I have been away for a few days.  We travelled to see my inlaws the weekend before Christmas then on Christmas Eve, we travelled to spend it and Christmas with my family.  It was a great time, even though the two families live in complete opposite directions.  We travelled to se my inlaws in Southern California, then to Northern Utah to be with my family.  About 1000 miles of driving.
I put in the mileage as a way of saying that it was a great time.  It is good to remember what the Holidays are about, and that is family.  Although … (4 comments)

the c team real estate: More observations - 12/18/07 09:48 PM
Reading yesterday of another sports scandal as up to 25 members of a college football team won't be eligible to play in a bowl game because they cheated to get good enough grades to be eligible to play football.  This, on top of what has gone on in baseball with the steroids along with the videotaping of opponents signs during a professional football game should not come as a surprise to anyone.  Let's face it they have gotten away with it.  The have told us as a society that it is ok to take advantage of the rules and do what … (3 comments)

the c team real estate: Steroids and Life - 12/15/07 05:38 PM
As a baseball fan I was saddened by the depth of player involvement in the entire steroid mess.  While some future Hall of Fame players have seen fit to use, albeit not admit to using, steroids, I hope that baseball can regain it's luster.  I understand the argument that steroids cannot make you hit a baseball, they do make you stronger, and improve the fast twitch or reactionary muscles.  At least that's what I have read and been told, I don't have any first hand knowledge on the subject.
I guess that the part that sickens me the most is the … (2 comments)

the c team real estate: Another Idea that I came across - 12/14/07 04:59 PM
As I was winding down this evening with my family, we were watching TV.  As luck would have it, the inventor of the Dyson Vacuum was doing a commercial talking about his designs on his vacuum cleaners.  He talked about how they made 5000 prototypes of the machine before they were satisfied with the results of the machine.  He acted excited that they had made 5000 prototypes prior to finding the one that worked.  They weren't failures, just 5000 ways not build a good machine.
I also liked what he said about a design award that he recieved, he mentioned that … (13 comments)

the c team real estate: Fridays musings.............. - 12/13/07 10:33 PM
I was looking at some material to write about when I came across a quote by Stephen R. Covey of the 7 Habits fame.  I found it to really be what I needed today.  I have found myself making excuses a lot lately; it's the market, buyers just aren't ready to commit.  The list could go on and on.  I found this quote on the internet and wished to share it with everyone;
Don't argue for other people's weaknesses. Don't argue for your own. When you make a mistake, admit it, correct it, and learn from it--immediately."
This may not correct … (6 comments)

the c team real estate: Holidays......... - 12/13/07 05:45 PM
I was just thinking about the Holidays, remembering the good times of my youth as well as the present.  I was touched by a thought of all of the people that get so depressed that they decide that they can't go on.  I was amazed at the statistics of just how many people come to that decision during this time of year.  I don't mean in anyway to demean nor detract from the suffering that drives people to make these decisions.  It just saddens me that during this time of year that to me and many others signifies hope, there are … (5 comments)

the c team real estate: Journals............... - 12/12/07 09:07 PM
Does anyone out there keep a journal, diary, daybook or what ever you want to call them?  I don't mean one that you only keep your personal thoughts, and happenings, but one that you also keep track of your business activities?
It may sound corny, but I tried for a long time to keep a personal journal and a business type journal.  It never worked.  I just never had the time to keep both of them updated, so in frustration, I stopped doing either of them.  I do believe in keeping a journal, especially as I get older.  I don't remember details … (5 comments)

the c team real estate: Home for the Holidays............. - 12/12/07 03:47 PM
I was just wondering what other people were doing for the Holidays.  Do you close down your office between Christmas and the New Year?  We have worked at an office that did just that, close down.  The current office where we work is open for that week, in fact, it will be open on the 26th.  That is alright, it may be good to be open and get some walk in traffic, or it may be dead!  That is the nature of the business.
It is a year that we get to travel to visit family, so it will be a … (6 comments)

the c team real estate: Help for the Holidays.............. - 12/12/07 03:08 PM
As each of us digs in and gives to our favorite charity this Holiday Season, I would like to commend you on your service.  Whether it is of time or money is irrelevant, it is the effort and the giving that is important.  For a lot of people, this is a rough time of year, suicide rates escalate and the despair that many feel deepens, as their personal resources grow tighter.  Whether you are in a position to give a little, a lot or not at all, please remember your friends and neighbors, especially if they are alone this time of … (1 comments)

the c team real estate: Greetings from Cedar City again..... - 12/11/07 08:10 PM
Hello, having a hard time sleeping again tonight.  I just wanted to update on what is going on here in Cedar City, Winter finally arrived.  Last Tuesday, it was nearly 60 degrees outside.  Today's high was 33 degrees.  We have a little bit of snow on the ground here in town.  The mountains recieved anywhere from 10 inches to 2 feet of snow.  Brian Head Ski Resort is open with some man made snow covered by the recent snow.
The city is ablaze with Christmas decoration and lights.  Many residents go all out with their lights, there are several streets that … (0 comments)

the c team real estate: What do you read? - 12/11/07 07:42 PM
As Realtors, we read a lot of books and articles about real estate.  We have a pretty good library started of Real Estate books, as well as sales training type books and articles.  We also read the leadership, motivational materials and books that we can find.  We look at this as training to better serve our clients and be more effective and professional.  We also are readers for fun, we don't go to a lot of movies and things like that, not because we don't like getting out and meeting people, but there is a lot of garbage out there, and … (6 comments)

the c team real estate: Goals for the new year - 12/11/07 07:28 PM
I have been sitting here trying to come up with goals for the new year.  This past year kind of brought me back to reality.  We had set some pretty lofty goals, planning to double our production from the previous year.  We weren't able to sustain that kind of growth.  So now the dilema is, do we go for the doubling goal again, now that we have survived a year in the market and are better experienced to deal with it's challenges, or do we pare back our goals and set completely realistic goals that although may be a challenge, just … (4 comments)

the c team real estate: Monday.................. - 12/10/07 07:30 AM
I was busy having a normal Monday, you know the type, not enough sleep, too many little non productive things that were put off until today which is the last day that they can be done, and Voila`, it is already two o'clock in the afternoon.  I am trying not to cave in and just call it a Monday or a bad day.  I get to the office, and decide that it may do me good to read some blogs and refocus my attention to Real Estate matters in a positive light instead of letting the shadows cross into my psyche.

the c team real estate: Greetings From Cedar City - 12/07/07 10:14 AM
Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings to everyone.  We say this not intending any slight towards any religions, races, or belief systems!  Our intent is to express our gratitude to everyone that makes this a GREAT industry to be involved in.  It seems that this is the time of year when these thoughts are expressed, and we wish to add our heartfelt thoughts to everyone else's.
We had our company Christmas Party last night, and like normal, the food was good, the company was great, and it was a good time.  Our broker took time to remind us not only how thankful … (1 comments)

the c team real estate: Real Estate Things in Cedar City - 12/07/07 09:55 AM
Well, we are supposed to get our first significant snow storm today and tomorrow.  The market is still like a lot of places.  It is moving just not as fast as we Realtors would like.  There are some great deals on move up homes.  In fact there are a couple of outstanding deals on unfinished homes that someone could buy, finish, and have a huge, beautiful home in some of the most desirable areas in town, with equity!
We also have some great deals on brand new town homes with around 2000 square feet for around $180k.  These are beautifully done … (0 comments)

the c team real estate: Thursday's Thought - 12/05/07 10:15 PM
Growing up I always idolized Merlin Olsen the Hall of Fame Football player for the Los Angeles Rams.  He was a member of the famed "fearsome foursome", then he went on to star on television in the Father Murphy series.  He, like myself was born in Utah, back then, we didn't have a lot of professional athletes come from Utah.  He always played the game hard, and with class.  I think that the biggest thing that made my idolize him was that he also was in the John Wayne movie "The Undefeated."
When I was a kid, you just didn't get bigger than to … (4 comments)
