Minnehaha Falls In Winter Minnehaha Falls is a beautiful area to visit anytime of the year in Minneapolis. This weekend I went to the park to get some snapshots of the frozen waterfall. Yes, those are people walking at the bottom of the falls. At 53 feet, it is quite a sight to see in summer and in the winter. The word, Minnehaha, comes from the Dakota language and literally means, "curling water", or "waterfall". Minnehaha Falls is located not too far from where (11 comments)

day trips: Afternoon Trip - The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
- 06/09/07 03:08 PM
The Minneapolis Sculpture Gardenis a great place to spend a lazy afternoon in the summer, or visit during lunch to unwind. Nestled near downtown and across the street from the Walker Arts Center, it is the site of the now famous Spoonbridge and Cherry seen in marketing materials across the state. History of the Location: It's the place where John Philip Sousa conducted and where the Minnehaha Zoo wintered some of its animals. In 1893 it was purchased by the city as the Parade grounds for the U.S. Army Reserve drill team and also housed the Kenwood Armory. Sadly the armory sunk into (2 comments)
day trips: Life on the Mississippi
- 05/30/07 02:36 AM
The Mississippi River is the most famous river in the United States. You might think the river looks the same everywhere, but the Upper Mississippi (above St Louis) is very different from the Lower Mississippi (below St Louis). What you might ask is the major difference? Well, starting just below St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis, the lock and dam system begins and continues until you reach St Louis. There are also areas of high bluffs that flank each side, which have been carved away over the centuries, and offer fantastic views, too. If you want to live on one of these (4 comments)

So I am giving you the opportunity to tell me about your town via comments. Those that nominate their town will see their town highlighted here, as long as it is a "Day Trip" from the Twin Cities. I will visit, take photos, and write a short blog about your town, with a special thanks to you! Just give me time in the next couple months to visit.
