Do Good Real Estate in Philadelphia!
Several years ago, Stephanie and I made a personal decision and commitment to give back to the community via charitable donations from our own sales production.  We believe in our hearts that it is important to give back to the community where we can as it helps our drive in improving all of Philly's great neighborhoods.   We have also learned that a vibrant civic association is an integral piece of the puzzle when it relates to community, growth, development and home price appreciation.
We are proud to announce that we made over $5,000 in … (1 comments)

Do Good Realtors in Philadelphia

It is important for us to give back to the community as much as we can, especially those neighborhoods where we live, work and play.  And where we own real estate!   It is the fabric and structure of the neighborhood associations that really help a community thrive, many of which are on shoe-string budgets.

Since 2011, we have donated 5 percent of our real estate commissions to the Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association  for those settlements (either seller or buyer) within Northern Liberties.   In 2012, we expanded that program to include properties in South Kensington.

For 2013, we have … (2 comments)

nlna: Drop Off Your E-Waste in Northern Liberties - 10/19/11 02:15 AM

From the NLNA: Bring all your electronic junk - TVs, computers, toasters, printers, window AC unites - if it has a circuit board, we can probably take it! A small bunch of stuff that fits in one of our milk crates crates costs just $2 to recycle. A larger bunch or a large item costs just $5. In most cases this means it'll cost less than ever to responsibly recycle your stuff.

nlna: 2nd Street Cleanup: Results! - 06/13/11 10:08 AM

We want to thank everyone who showed up on Saturday for the 2nd Street Cleanup and donated their time and energy into giving 2nd Street from Fairmount to Poplar a much-needed facelift.  We also want to thank Liberties Parcel for donating the fantastic signs for the event and Green Eggs Cafe for passing around delicious iced tea relief to the volunteers. Thanks to the NLNA for the brooms, gloves, and other supplies for the cleanup.  Together we made quick work of the litter, weeds, cigarette butts, and debris lining the streets and filled every single trash bag! Just check out … (0 comments)

nlna: Get E-Wasted in Northern Liberties - 04/25/11 02:49 AM

There's an E-Waste pile somewhere in your home. Look closely. You know that shelf, drawer, box, or dark corner of the closet where all of your old, broken, outdated, useless electronics go to die? The one that you're afraid to throw away because you have no idea where to take it or what will happen to the planet as a result of you doing so?
Take a deep breath. The NLNA is here to help.
Purge your home of those technological skeletons during E-Waste Day on April 30th. The details:
Bring your old computers, TVs, printers, cell phones, copiers - … (5 comments)

Giving Back to the Community - Kensington South Neighborhood Association (KSNAC)
We are proud to announce that we have expanded our giving back to the community program to include the Kensington South Neighborhood Neighborhood Association (KSNAC).   What this means is that for every house we sell in  Kensinston South (Old Kensington). whether we represent the buyer or seller, we personally donate a fixed percentage of our real estate commissions directly to the neighborhood association.
Buyers and sellers love the program because they know that their neighborhood receives an immediate benefit from the real estate sale.
Earlier in the year, we announced the initiative for Northern … (2 comments)

nlna: Need a Little Variety on Friday Night? - 04/07/11 03:19 AM
Now, normally, we'd never tell you to Lower Your Expectations.  But on Friday, April 8, you can certainly do just that at the 9th Annual Northern Liberties Variety Show at Johnny Brenda's.  Each $10 ticket will benefit the Northern Liberties Townwatch with performances from the Liberty Lands bag-piper, ukelele players, fire-eaters, and some stand-up comedy - just don't let those expectations get too high.
If you're not familiar with the Northern Liberties Townwatch, be sure to read our previous post below and find out how else you can help. You don't have to be a fire-eater to make a difference in the … (0 comments)

nlna: We Like it On Top: Top Realtors in Philadelphia AND Pennsylvania - 04/02/11 01:17 AM
We Like it on Top:   Top Realtors in Philadelphia AND Pennsylvania
We were pretty much blown away when the award and letter came in the mail.  We earnd the place of #2 RE/MAX Real Estate Team in all of Pennsylvania and #1 Team in Philadelphia.
Stephanie and I are not one to keep track of numbers throughout the year but apparently 2010 was an extremely successful year for us and for our team.   In a year where the media talked about doom and gloom, The Somers team kept extremely busy working with buyers and sellers.
Our eyes were on our client's goals and … (10 comments)

nlna: Giving Back to the Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association - 03/19/11 03:26 AM
Giving Back to the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association
First off, I must say I am very happy to be writing this blog.  Business has been good to us and of course we have worked very hard to achieve that.  But more importantly, we feel that it is important to give back to the community.  We have been residents in Northern Liberties since 2005 and our office is in Northern Liberties now as well.

Thus, we recently implemented a new program where for every settlement we have in Northern Liberties, for every buyer and seller, we will donate 5 percent of the commissions … (2 comments)

nlna: Caught on Camera: NLNA Winterfest 2011 at North Bowl - 02/14/11 01:31 AM
We had a great time at the NLNA Winterfest 2011 event at North Bowl on Sunday.
We are so proud to be part of such a vibrant neighborhood. The organizers did a fantastic job and North Bowl's staff and participants were awesome as usual. Here's a quick peek:

nlna: Super Bowl? How about North Bowl? The Annual NLNA Winter Holiday Party. - 02/01/11 07:33 AM
The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association is known for always waiting until long after the holidays to have their annual fundraising party...and you gotta love 'em for that. When it's dead of winter outside and there's not much going on, a party with friends and locals is just the thing to get you out of the house with the bonus of raising money for your neighborhood.
We showed off our bowling skills at last year's event at North Bowl and are happy to see that the NLNA is taking it back to the lanes again this year. We hope to see you … (0 comments)

nlna: Northern Liberties Watch: December 9th's NLNA Meeting - 12/10/10 03:20 AM
In case you missed last night's Northern Liberties Neighbors Association meeting, we stopped by to find out what's new, be it a concern or an inspiration, in the neighborhood. The house was packed, as always, with the friendly faces of the neighborhood.
Northern Liberties 2011 Calendars are still available and make great gifts. Orianna Hill Dog Park will be Treecycling this year. As you may know, Christmas trees are currently not recycled by the city of Philadelphia, so make sure you remove all of the decorations and drop your tree off with a $5 donation at Orianna Hill so that your … (1 comments)

nlna: Safety Tips from the Northern Liberties Townwatch - 12/01/10 07:27 AM
Staying Safe in the City is something we all want to do. Let's face it, crimes happen and we all want to do whatever we can to avoid being a crime statistic!

In our message below, Katrina Mansfield from the Northern Liberties Townwatch has some great advice to pass on to us about staying safe no matter what city you live in.
I first spoke to Katrina Mansfield when she called me to find out who owned the security camera outside of my condo building. "Why would any one care about that?" I asked her. Katrina explained that she volunteered … (0 comments)

nlna: Philly Orchard Projects Brings POP to Northern Liberties - 07/12/10 04:35 AM
Liberty Lands Park is a prime location for Philadelphia Orchard Project's POP Music Festival: it's a strong example of how communities can organize and maintain their gardens through communication and hard work. The Project's aim is to build community food security for the city of Philadelphia by planting new orchards and maintaining and expanding current ones as real sources of Philly-grown food. It recently won a $15,000 grant in the Green Heroes Program.
So what's next? The POP Music Festival on Saturday, July 17 (3:00 - 8:30pm) at Liberty Lands in Northern Liberties. The festival and fundraiser will have performances from … (1 comments)

nlna: Free Rain Barrels for Northern Liberties Residents and Businesses - 07/06/10 02:00 AM
Hey, remember rain? We sure could use some of it during this hot beginning of the week.
The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association wants you to know that free rain barrels are available to all neighborhood residents and businesses, just email the NLNA Clean & Green Coordinator Lara Kelly at trash@nlna.org with your name and address, a description of your downspout: shape (round or square), size (2"x3", 3" round, etc.), and texture (smooth or rippled), and confirmation that you can fit a barrel 3 ft. high and 29" in your yard near a gutter downspout.
A rain barrel can help keep stormwater … (1 comments)

5 Things to Do After June 30th to Grow Your Business !

If you are like us, we have been incredibly busy due to the Tax Credit stimulus.  The weeks leading up to April 30th were crazy getting buyers under contract and having the majority of our listings fly off the shelve, several with multiple offers.  All of those deals have either already settled or will be settling in the next few days.  It has been an incredible 2010 for The Somers Team already !
However, we do not want the momentum and the activity to stop.  We do believe … (160 comments)

nlna: Coming Soon: 2010 Liberty Lands Summer Movie Series - 06/21/10 02:48 AM
What makes watching a movie outdoors so much better than being cooped up inside? We can't say. While there's something nice about the chill of a dark theater on a sticky day, or cozying up on the sofa to watch a flick when it's pouring outside, there's also quite a bit of spontaneous adventure when gathering with your friends and neighbors to catch a movie in the open. The NLNA just announced the schedule for the outdoor movies at Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties, which has been a summer tradition for many years. You can view the schedule here.
