things to do: Welcome to Shadtown - 04/15/11 02:48 AM
The third annual Shadfest hits Fishtown next week, and as Shad fever takes over, we begin to wonder: What if Fishtown had been called Shadtown?
What exactly is Shadfest? Well, this pretty much explains it. This year's Shadfest is on April 23, but there are a couple of events leading up to the fishiest event in Fishtown, so why not make a week of it?
It all starts with the Fishtown Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 16, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt, at Penn Treaty Park. April 16 - 23 is the Official Shadweek, with a fundraiser for Delaware Bay … (0 comments)

things to do: Tip Jar: Where the Sun Don't Shine - 04/14/11 09:31 AM
Today is such a sunny day I thought It would be great to provide a few sun-kissed tips for today's Tip Jar:
1) When taking pictures inside or outside, the photographer should have the sun (or the brightest light source) to their back to create the most favorable photo shots.
2) Just because it is April and 70 degrees, don't think you won't burn in the sun. It takes only 20 minutes to burn so pull out the sunscreen and rub a little Coppertone on your nose, cheeks and shoulders. Hey, slather it all over if you know you will be … (1 comments)

If you're not familiar with the Northern Liberties Townwatch, be sure to read our previous post below and find out how else you can help. You don't have to be a fire-eater to make a difference in the … (0 comments)

At Soil Kitchen, you can...
A) Learn to Build Your Own Wind Turbine
B) Get Your Soil Tested and Learn How to Compost

The answer, we can assure you, is all three and more. The Soil Kitchen, a pop-up urban environment forum, is set to open in the empty kitchen at 2nd Street & Girard Avenue in Northern Liberties. things to do: The Rundown at Gunners Run - 03/13/11 03:14 AM
Ever so curious about the newest bar in Northern Liberties, we popped into  Gunners Run last night. What we found was some tasty calamari and salad and a crowd that was happy to see the place open.
Gunners Run will have serving rights that extend 40 feet into the Piazza's courtyard in front of the big screen, just in time for baseball season. Look for "deuces" (two-seaters) outside on the 2nd Street entrance.
We're excited for a strong addition to the neighborhood. Welcome, Gunners Run!

things to do: Super Bowl? How about North Bowl? The Annual NLNA Winter Holiday Party. - 02/01/11 07:33 AM
The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association is known for always waiting until long after the holidays to have their annual fundraising party...and you gotta love 'em for that. When it's dead of winter outside and there's not much going on, a party with friends and locals is just the thing to get you out of the house with the bonus of raising money for your neighborhood.
We showed off our bowling skills at last year's event at North Bowl and are happy to see that the NLNA is taking it back to the lanes again this year. We hope to see you … (0 comments)

If there's one person in Philadelphia who knows something about brightening a mood, it's Candy Depew, the colorful Philadelphia artist who is shaking things up with her "House Tattoo".
Now Depew wants to teach others some "candycoated" skills during the chilly months of January and February, with silkscreen-printing classes at her studio in Old City.  Get out of the house, brave the snow-crusted sidewalks, and learn something new this winter. The CandyCoated Center
