twitter: How Twitter Is Like FarmVille - 03/30/10 02:40 PM

I've got some friends who seem to be playing FarmVille way too much.  Their facebook wall is full of FarmVille announcements.  Their photo album full of Farmville screenshots.  Wayyyyy too much FarmVille.  If you love farmville, feel free to skip this. We probably all have one or more friends who compromise their professional reputation to the lure that is FarmVille. Sure, they may tell us it's their kids playing on their facebook account, but I'm not convinced.
This phenomenon got me thinking about how real time information can change or enhance an established impression of an individual. [...Click Here To Read The … (8 comments)

twitter: Tweetie VS. Twitterrific VS. Twittelator - Which Is The Perfect Twitter App? - 03/13/10 02:13 PM

To follow up on an earlier post that i wrote asserting that the future of twitter is mobile, I thought it would be helpful to do a comparison of the top three premium (not free) twitter applications. Since using twitter on your mobile device is the best way to get a benefit out of the platform without sacrificing your schedule's other obligations, a lot of people want to know which twitter application would be best for them to use.  Some are definately better than others.
In this blog post I review Tweetie 2, Twitterific Premium, and Twittelator Pro.  They all … (6 comments)

twitter: The Future of Twitter is Mobile - 03/09/10 03:11 PM

Because of some research I’m doing for tomorrow’s Get More Business Show on the topic of Social Media, I’ve been surprised to read recently written articles by prominent (although cremudgenly) authors desparaging Twitter and the idea of instant unrestricted communication.
I don’t expect everyone to jump on the twitter bandwagon, but I honestly thought I wouldn’t be reading any more of those articles.  Twitter isn’t an infant anymore. [...Click Here To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: Will Measured Impact really work well on the basis of Twitter Popularity? - 03/09/10 12:32 AM
After being largely silent on the topic during last week's radio show, my Co-Host Josh Chandler came out with this zinger is his blog post this week about Measured Impact on the TVPG Radio blog:
On last Wednesday's live broadcast of "Get More Business" Jason Sanders discussed his charitable initiative "Measured Impact".
The idea in principle would be to help promote charities to those on Twitter with high follower numbers (in the Twitter Top 100) and in turn get a direct conversion to help the selected charity.
Now, this idea did spark a reaction from me (and it wasn't a good … (0 comments)

twitter: Are You Qualified To Handle That Thing? - 12/31/09 12:07 AM

I guess it’s to be expected as more and more people plug into social media, but I’m surprised to see people using social media to shoot themselves in the foot on an almost daily basis.  Most of these mistakes are due to inexperience or ignorance, but laziness can also be a factor.  I’m not one [...Click To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: Are You Using Twitter Backwards? - 12/14/09 11:34 AM

Anytime I write or talk about twitter, inevitably I get asked how I’m making out with it.  It’s apparent that a lot of people are willing to try the service, but not clear on the best way to use it.  Often I talk to frustrated people who have given up using twitter after spending a [...Click Here To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: The Lingering Loyalty Question And Determining Influence (Step 2) - 12/05/09 12:27 AM

Measured Impact is a contest that organizes labor for charity and also measures the strength (loyalty) of the contestants’ social media connections/relationships.  Here’s how:
When we all build our own “network” or “tribe” (or whatever hot word you want to use) our networks are actually cross-connected to a certain extent.  This makes me wonder, who are [...Click Here To Read The Rest On Measured Impact]

twitter: My Twitter Policy - 12/05/09 12:26 AM

Not too long ago, I put my twitter followers on notice. Between the spam and all the automated messages, it’s become harder and harder to use twitter in a meaningful way.  I wouldn’t be as opposed to automation if there were actually a person on the other side, but time after time, I’ve commented on [...Click To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: Introducing Measured Impact - 12/02/09 11:08 AM

I was going to say it all started with a conversation, but that’s not totally true.  There are a lot of events and conversations, thoughts and reflections that have made this moment possible.  Yes, this moment is being brought to you by my family’s crisis that left me with a profound appreciation for charity and [...Click To Read The Rest On Measured Impact]

twitter: Making A Measurable Difference - 12/01/09 10:16 AM

Several months ago I was having a conversation with Brandon Mendelson of SoapBoxIncluded. I’m a fan of Brandon’s work and I’ve learned a lot by watching him organize his charitable efforts (his national Check Early Check Often Breast Cancer Awareness Tour). And I’ve really been paying attention to how he is navigating the [...Click To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: I'm Putting My Twitter Followers On Notice - 12/01/09 10:15 AM

I haven’t been on Twitter very much lately because I’ve been gearing up for a lot of very exciting initiatives.  As these ideas are being implemented, I’m also preparing to spend more time on Twitter, to be more available and connect more with my business community.  But in my absence, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend [...Click To Read The Rest On IdeaBox]

twitter: How To Make Money On Twitter! - 07/17/09 06:32 AM
Yes, I'll admit it, I'm on Twitter a lot.  Lots of people ask me what I get out of it.  Well there's all the people that I'm able to expose to my business, but I'll save that for another blog post.  I find Twitter extremely valuable, but I know that there are those who will discount it if they can't make something happen with it quickly.  Twitter, like any other form of social networking is a long term strategy.  It's about building relationships, which takes work and time.  But I'm glad to share a way that I'm putting a little extra … (22 comments)

twitter: You're Only As Good As Your Last Tweet - 07/08/09 02:29 PM
In Business, we've all heard the expression that you're only as good as your last deal.  Today's consumer doesn't have an incredibly long memory, so it's up to us as product or service providers to represent our business to its full potential with each and every transaction.
In a case of Twitter copying business, there have been some recent changes to the Twitter interface that make each of us only as good as our last tweet.
You may or may not have noticed that Twitter has changed the following and followers screens.
On the following screen (seen below), you now see … (22 comments)

twitter: Twitter Tip: How To Follow The Conversation - 07/02/09 09:32 AM
I got this golden nugget from listening to Jason Crouch, Ken Cook and Mike Mueller on their Social Media Edgeshow on BlogTalkRadio.  If you've never listened, you should check it out!  I attached the episode this information appeared in to the bottom of this blog post.  It's about 52 minutes in, if you want to listen.  But since none of those guys have blogged about this, I figured I would give it a go.
With millions of people joining Twitter every day, I'm noticing that the site itself, and how people use it are both transforming.  To someone just getting started, … (11 comments)

twitter: A Series of Poor Decisions: The Twitter Song - 07/01/09 09:07 AM
If you're a fan of disturbing story lines, and you like twitter, I bet you'll like this video. It definately made me smile, scratch my head, and laugh. Whoever conceived this idea is way more creative than me.

This video definately has the potential to go viral, so don't be surprised if you start seeing it everywhere. But don't forget you saw it here first! To give credit where credit is due, Brandon Mendelson (@BJMendelson on Twitter) introduced it to me. I hope you like it!

twitter: Twitter Tip - Reach More People W/Your Replies - Don't Limit The Reach Of Your Tweets - 06/11/09 03:47 PM
Twitter is on the surface deceptively simple.  When you first log in, it doesn't seem like there's too much to it.  In fact, I didn't even totally understand how to use the Twitter interface for a very long time.
It took me experimenting with twitter applications such as TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop for me to start to realize what the platform was actually capable of doing.  In many cases I ended up reverse engineering the results I was getting from those applications in order to finally understand how to achieve the same thing through Twitter's online desktop.  It often looks simpler than … (8 comments)

twitter: Twitter - Should You Protect Your Updates? - The Illusion Of Privacy - 04/28/09 09:08 AM
I find so many people have gone out and created accounts on social networking platforms, such as Twitter and others, and then they sit back wondering what to do with them.  A common concern that people have when getting started is how much information they are putting out there and how it could potentially damage their privacy.
If you're worried that someone could find out where you live or more personal information on the internet than what you're comfortable sharing, you should keep a couple of things in mind.
On the internet you have no privacy. There's probably already information about … (7 comments)

twitter: Just getting started on Twitter? It's OK to talk to yourself, but what does your profile say about you? - 04/03/09 07:07 AM
Twitter has been much maligned in the blogosphere, being described as a waste of time, a leach of productivity, etc....and yet it has continued to grow and win over users by the millions.  So if you've been sitting back wondering what all the hype is about and now find yourself ready to jump on the bandwagon, lest you miss something...there are a few things you need to realize.
The Twitter users that you see out there with hundreds, thousands, tens or even hundreds of thousands of followers had to start somewhere.  When they first created their Twitter accounts, they were all … (12 comments)

twitter: Twitter + Facebook = Tweetdeck! - 03/24/09 02:34 PM
Twitter is one of the hottest blog topics these days.  Tons of people have signed up and are putting themselves out there through 140 character "tweets".  As has been discussed, and anyone who has spent a significant amount of time on Twitter can attest, after a while you need to start filtering out the noise that comes from hundreds to potentially thousands of people who you might choose to follow and everything that they are putting into their tweet stream.
The most popular solution to this problem has become Tweetdeck.  Tweetdeck allows you to group those that you follow into categories … (68 comments)
