active rain: Take Action: Eliminate It - 07/12/20 05:53 AM

"The ability to simplify
means to eliminate the unnecessary
so that the necessary may speak."
~Artist, Hans Hofmann

Your action for today
is to eliminate something that is unnecessary
- from your office, car, home or schedule.

I have done several things to honor thios during
our shelter in place 2020.

Cleaned the office. Cleaned the garage. Organized the book shelves. Tossed out clothes I haven't worn in over a year. Deleted memberships to Facebook Groups I never visit. Eliminated multiple Zoom meetings from my week is the latest. The organization was liberating, gave me a sense of accomplishment and opened up my schedule for … (8 comments)

active rain: Take Action: Just A Little Bit More - 07/11/20 03:38 PM
"Four short words sum up what has lifted

most successful individuals above the crowd
--'a little bit more.'
They did all that was expected of them and a little bit more."
Writer, A. Lou Vickery

Your action for today is to do one proactive action
that exceeds someones expectations.

My coaches at Buffini & Company have always told me,
"you did it before, you can do it again, but give me
5% more than last time, just 5%"

So whether its more effort, more time, more energy
of the unexpected extras for your spouse,
kids, family or clients...exceeding what is expected
is what is memorable to them. The Wow! factor.

When Virgin America was still around, they taught … (7 comments)

active rain: Do You Marvel At How Long It Is?  - 05/06/20 12:21 PM
You know, marvel at your years of membership
in Active Rain; 😉 how long you've been a member.

Active Rain began accepting members May 2006!

The days are long, the years are short...I marvel at over 11 years here.
Do you celebrate your anniversary or how long it is that you have began your Active Rain Membership? Do you celebrate your relationships here? The wisdom shared?

How long have you been a member? When did you join?
Why did you sign up?
Why do you come back: Daily? Weekly? Inconsistently?

I'm a history buff, so consequently I geek out over dates, anniversaries, time-lines and time-lines in parallel i.e. what I was doing 9/25/75 … (44 comments)

active rain: An Active Rain Contest To Win With and Learn From - 05/05/18 09:36 PM
Topic idea - Riches In The Niches
Best Idea Contest : Entries will be judged on what was chosen for their niche, how the niche will be marketed and branded. They also must explain what lead to this choice, the "back story": personal reason?  passion?  education?  experience?  special skills?  other?
Topic summary - Pick The Niche That Will Get You Rich!
Premise: You get to keep all your present skills, education and experience, but you have to start your real estate business completely over today. You have no database, no leads, no prior sales; it's ground zero, day one!
Choose One Niche Only i.e. one client type, or one property type, or … (29 comments)

active rain: I'm Certain There's Uncertainty! - 04/25/18 05:14 PM
I got a kick out of this list, a list only a seasoned, quality agent could pen. We do see so much, we do know so much. But, we still have them days too. Always know your value, be able to communicate and never let anyone rob you of it. I think Liz and Bill Spear did a great job on this list, it's worth a read, I've read it twice it's so nice!

active rain: I Don't Buy Leads, I work My "Spear". Oh, Do You Really? - 03/31/18 08:34 PM

I Don't Buy Leads, I work My "Spear". Oh, Do You Really?
                               (Sphere)

I’m one of those Realtors that says, “I don’t buy leads, I work (or prospect) my Sphere of Influence (SOI) or my Database is the term I prefer to use. Now, in my case this is effective, because I really do. But, do you…really…work yours? Your Sphere of Influence is essentially your database. And yes, its a Sphere, not a Spear folks -I hear so many say “spear”; the title is tongue and cheek folks.

active rain: We Write In The Rain and There Is Right in The Rain - 10/01/17 08:24 AM
We Write In The Rain, We May Complain In The Rain,

But There's Much Right in The Rain

This is my (not done often enough) Spotlight on members that recently made me feel proud and fortunate to be a Rainmaker in the Active Rain. While I often agree with and or appreciate their posts, I don’t always agree with what they say and they don’t always agree with me, yet I sense mutual respect in our similarities and differences. Debate is where we learn, as long as we don’t get undermined by our own tunnel vision egos. I was impressed by these … (23 comments)

active rain: Podcast #104: The Q&A from Active Rain Discussed part 3 - 07/29/17 10:27 PM

Once in a while my Mail-Right Real Estate Agent Podcast Show co-host (and AR member) Jonathan Denwood and I, have a guest cancel last minute on our show. This never really throws us off to much, outside the disappointment of what we'd planned to discuss with that guest and share with our audience, because I always have a list of great questions at the ready, which I pull from Active Rain's top agents' in the AR Q&A section.

Rather than rush to re-book a guest and have a forced interview, we read out some of what I think are the best topical questions of the … (2 comments)

active rain: Open Letter To The Student: Keeping it Friendly, Keeping it Real... - 07/08/17 09:52 PM
"Welcome to Real Estate, Welcome to ActiveRain".
Keeping it Friendly, Keeping it Real...

That was how I greeted our "spectator-commentator" and new arrival to ActiveRain. Then my typical 2-4 sentence comment on his third blog post turned into a blog of my own, (Ever have that happen)?
A student, not yet licensed was lamenting on how it was a shame that we need to be told to provide "good customer service" via the Agency Agreement Disclosure that lays out our Fiduciary Duty. I agreed with his point in spirit, that it is a shame some need this as an actual governor and we all need to sign … (31 comments)

Do you listen to our ActiveRain Podcast, hosted by Bob Stewart ?
Hope so, but in case you don't here's my notes from Episode 35, just enough to entice you to listen for your own nuggets of gold and pearls of wisdom.

active rain: One Thing Leads To Another in The ActiveRain - 02/02/17 02:55 PM
I’ve gone from a transactional expectations to a relational enjoyment of my ActiveRain experience over the years. I originally thought, leads, leads, leads. Then I was hooked on points, point, points. But it wasn't until a few firsts in the ActiveRain, that I shifted gears and really started reaping from the harvest of giving, giving, giving; the giving of information and answers that helps others in their journey, giving ideas that spark creativity in your readers, giving your authentic self to build relationships and alliances.

I posted, on whim one evening this post: No Guarantees, a heartfelt reflection of our industry and … (23 comments)

active rain: Achieving 1,000,000 or More Active Rain Points - 08/24/16 11:41 PM

I'm going on record, as a daily author on ActiveRain: I admire those that crossed 1,000,000 - 2,000,000 and 3,000,000 points. I believe most would blog with or without the points. I interact with many of them weekly, if not daily and they are unique group that stand out in part due to the points sure, that shines a light on them, but it takes content & respect to earn followers and folks that bother to comment on their posts. Over the years, I've read hundreds of their blog posts and can see how they both write and respond in their comments; in … (50 comments)

active rain: Earning 300 In The Rain - 08/14/16 11:32 PM

I turned Earned-300

in ActiveRain!

I'd like to first thank Scott Parrish for becoming my 300th follower on 8/6/16. I'm now up to 302 followers, but I can remember the day I got my first and thought "Wow! I can't believe someone subscribed to my blog!"  We always talk about the "points" we can earn in ActiveRain, but for me, honestly having a high # in points is just for competitive fun with my friends here; the real juice for me comes from how many followers I have. That is what inspires me to post good content to reinforce (and reassure) their decision to follow me.

I'm on a mission to … (5 comments)

active rain: Your Posts Are the Stones, Your Readers Are the Ripples - 07/15/16 11:57 PM
Your Posts Are the Stone, Your Readers Are the Ripples ...and the Ripple Effect comes from how your posts touch & connect you to people, then a result is born of that connection.

I use many social media platforms to promote my business and blogs from Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter & Houzz to LinkedIn and Active Rain. I also try to get clients to post reviews on me in my comment sections of Realtor.com and Yelp.com. I produce local interest videos and local entrepreneur interviews on YouTube.com and of course post all my listings…everywhere social.

While the cumulative exposure and effect from social media … (12 comments)

active rain: Here's The "Point": I turned 300,000 Today! - 06/28/16 08:53 AM
I never paid attention when I hit 100,000 points, but I'm sure it was a few years back, based on my poor participation in The Rain. I could barely remember to long on once per week back then. The points never inspired me anyhow.

I know when I turned 200,000, it was last October 2015. That stood out to me because I remember thinking, "wow, I'm in good company on the points board now."

And now, here I am only 8 months later turning 300,000 points old! I used @weeksRichard Weeks' Q&A post this morning to do so, so thanks Richard!

I know I went … (6 comments)

active rain: Be Kind in The Rain (even to Utah students) - 06/27/16 10:36 AM
Be Kind in The Rain (even to Utah students), they are your future referral partners! I was very impressed today to receive this letter (below) from one of the "infamous Utah students". We seasoned agents and bloggers tend to get impatient with their repeated questions, I'm guilty of it too. But, I do my best to be kind, to be helpful and to answer their questions. Scott asked some great questions and I chose to answer them.
Now some of you will say "oh that's a canned letter", and it may very well be. But it still needed to be written and mailed; … (7 comments)

active rain: Getting Social: Posting Your Blog Post to Facebook - 06/01/16 01:07 AM
I was asked to blog on this in the Q&A. For those of us with more than one Facebook page, how to go about posting your AR blog post on multiple pages in Facebook.

When you complete your post on AR and you want to "go social", Facebook in this example, it's pretty easy to post it. You have two choices actually:

METHOD #1. Copy and paste the short URL into your desired Facebook page or pages. See below:
Just drop the link into your Comment section or "What's on your mind?" in facebook. You can also add photos and additional comments before you … (8 comments)

active rain: When Rainmakers MeetUP, The Sun Shines Brighter! - 04/27/16 09:16 AM
Thank You Jeff Dowler CRS for organizing a wonderful ActiveRain Spring Meetup lunch today. What a great location too, The Lighthouse Oyster Bar & Grill in Oceanside. We enjoyed great conversation, solved global warming, conquered Zillow and shared a few laughs with an amazing view of the harbor.
I can't stress enough how important & fun these face to face opportunities are in our digital world. This was a quality group of guys (that seemed to have scared off the ladies) to hang out with today.
These Meetups are valuable, hope to have another one this year and we all agreed a regional or national AR … (11 comments)

active rain: Do You Pounce On Their Post? - 04/17/16 01:44 AM
Do you "Pounce On Their Post?"

We are gathered here to share, educate and connect; not convert. I am guilty of sharp shooting in Active Rain in the past; I admit I fell into that trap. But my higher ground thinking, is that I need to look for opportunities to make deposits into my Active Rain relationships, not take withdrawals.

I often post blogs, knowing some will disagree with me and tell me so (and I relish that opportunity to politely debate my posts). I don't post "just to be controversial", I'm authentic in my writing; this is me.
I feel intelligent debates are opportunities for growth, … (43 comments)
