philadelphia: Delaware Valley: Free WiFi Access In Metro Philadelphia
- 01/26/08 02:51 PM
When I first obtained a wireless device that had WiFi capabilities, I thought that I would have free reign of WiFi access in public areas, expecially at such places as restaurants, coffee shops and airports. However, I soon found out that while the WiFi access was provided, the use of that WiFi was not usually free, such as at Starbucks and the airports. If access was indeed free, there were limits in quality of signal, restrictions on bandwidth and types of access, as well as not always providing convenient locations.Philadelphia has been talking about having citywide WiFi capability, but nothing concrete has (0 comments)
philadelphia: Delaware Valley: Rodin Museum
- 01/26/08 01:58 PM
My family and I recenty decided for take a short Sunday afternoon trip into Philadelphia to visiting the Rodin Museum and the nearby Philadelphia Museum of Art's Perlman Building. It was a comfortable, sunny January day.Philly's Rodin Museum contains the largest collection of works by the sculptor Auguste Rodin outside of Paris (Musee Rodin). For those of you who aren't sure who Rodin was, you probably have heard of his sculpture creation, "The Thinker", which greets you at the outer entrance to the Rodin Museum. After passing by The Thinker and through the entranceway, you enter the Rodin Museum courtyard and then walk toward the entrance of the museum building. (0 comments)

"Day-trippers take notice: the Philly tourism board advises 'You just can't do it in a day'. This is especially true when one considers visiting the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Rodin Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and, just a few miles outside the city, the Barnes Foundation in Merion." (Source: ArtCyclopedia) While you can't see it all in a day, you can enjoy a great art experience in a day or even an afternoon in Philly. philadelphia: Survivors Guide to New Jersey Speak
- 01/08/07 12:03 PM
Many people have in their mind an idea of how a New Jersey (or 'Joisey') native sounds. If you are not from New Jersey, perhaps you get your impressions from TV, such as The Sopranos. However, the influences on New Jersey are diverse and identifying standard New Jersey speech patterns is more complicated than many realize. First, it's important to recognize that there are two main divisions with New Jersey, roughly divided geographically into North and South Jersey. Due in part to the impact of New York City on the North and Philadelphia on the South, this has helped created recognizable linguistic (3 comments)
philadelphia: In Search Of The Great Philly Hoagie
- 01/01/07 08:15 AM
Call it what you may: Sub, Submarine sandwich, Italian Sandwich, Hero, Torpedo, Zeppelin or Grinder, there is something unique and special about the Philadelphia (or Philly) Hoagie. Some of it has to do with the type and freshness of the bread, or with the quality of the meats and cheeses or the type and quality of the oil and condiments. But the properly assembled combination, while reproducible throughout the Delaware Valley, is difficult to obtain outside of the region. The Hoagie, a form of the submarine sandwich (or sub), is unique to the Philadelphia / Delaware Valley area. It generally consists of an elongated roll (called (1 comments)

Everyone has a general idea of what is in a basic cheesesteak. But, unless you're from or have visited the Delaware Valley area, few people know or understand the exquisite flavor, aroma and satisfying taste that only a true Philadelphia (or as more affectionately known, "Philly") cheesesteak can provide. The basic ingredients create a synergy that is much more than the sum of it's parts. As most people know, a basic cheesesteak consists of a bread roll, thinly sliced or shredded meat (usually beef, but now chicken is frequently offered, in which case it's called a chicken cheesesteak) grilled with onions and/or (7 comments)

Independence National Park, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed), is located in Philadephia. A visit to the park is a great day trip (I prefer a weekend which has more parking options), but there are many other historic (tours, buildings and homes, such as the Betsy Ross House), cultural (exhibits, shows, theater, art, sports) and educational (museums, zoo, dinasaur exibit) places to see and events to experience that require a longer stay or more follow up visits. Many of the local hotels offer special weekend getaway packages. Here are some (2 comments)
