I have finally got most of the outside Halloween (lights) decorations up (we'll see how much gets stolen...). I'm passing on decorating the inside this year - I just don't feel like it.  I'll finish adding all the outside stuff on Friday eve before the kids start showing up.  I just don't risk leaving it all outside for eny length of time, the really neat stuff anyway. We learned some very bad news last night.  A friend of ours just discovered he has lung cancer that has spread to his liver and bones.  He went into the hospital last week for what they thought was pneumonia.  It wasn't pneumonia, but cancer.  He's immediately starting chemo - to hopefully slow down the progression of the cancer.  They say attitude plays a … (0 comments)

home for sale: The First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit - 08/20/08 11:00 AM
As part of the Housing Bill - H.R. 3221 - President Bush signed into law on July 30, 2008, a tax credit has been created for first-time home buyers who purchase a home between April 9, 2008 and July 1, 2009.
Purchasers must not have owned a home int he last three years. 
The tax credit is 10% of the purchase price or $7,500, whichever is less.  The maximum credit for single filers is $3,750.  It is received only after the buyer has filed their taxes, and if they owe taxes, then the amount owed will be deducted from the credit.  … (2 comments)

Saturday was a busy day.  I wrote up an offer on a property with a buyer.  Then I went over to work on the Miami rental.  I got a call from my seller on Sunnybrae telling me that the agent who showed the home locked the inside garage door and he couldn't get into the house.  Why he didn't have an extra set of keys, I don't know, but I took a spare (I always make extra keys for this reason) and drove it out to Ballwin to let him in the house.  It was kind of aggravating, with the price … (1 comments)

I just got off the phone with Mom.  It's been a stressful last few days for the family.  On Thursday, Grandpa (Mom's Dad) fell and broke his hip.  He's 99 years old - will be 100 this October - and was in good health except for his mental state.  He has dementia/alzheimers.  The local hospital ran x-rays and found what looked like might be something, but they weren't sure.  He was eventually transferred to St Francis hospital in Cape Girardeau where more x-rays and scans were done.  He was in a lot of pain, and the pain meds they gave him, … (1 comments)

A new construction townhome (3327 Gustine, 63116) was recorded as "SOLD" in the MLS last week.  It's located at the corner of McDonald and Gustine in Tower Grove South, the neighborhood in which I live.  This is exciting, as I have been watching the progress on this one since last autumn - it was listed as Pending since September 13, 2007.  It was listed at $319,900 and sold for $324,500.  The sales had slowed in the neighborhood, so hopefully this will get things moving again...

I just received the email from the Council of Residential Specialists about updating our profiles and ordering advertising space in the 2009 CRS Membership Freferral Directoryy and Online Directory.  I've always just had the standard listing in the book (free), but am considering adding a picture box ($150 and another $100 for the online listing).  In the Saint Louis, Missouri Pages of the 2008 CRS Membership Referral Directory, there are 17 Picture listings out of at least 100 listings.

It was downright warm today.  I broke down and used the air conditioning in the car on the way to an appointment - I didn't want to sweat through my shirt.  Don't get me wrong, I love warm weather, but today seemed more like early summer than spring...
