Extremely high temperatures in the forecast for Southeastern NC -- be safe! It's already been a hotter and dryer than normal year for us here in the Wilmington NC area. And now the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Southeastern NC that will be in effect for Tuesday July 12, 2011 and possibly Wednesday July 13, 2011 as well. Inland heat indexes are expected to reach 109 with coastal area heat indexes reaching 100 or more. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe in this dangerous heat. Stay hydrated. College Park Elementary Shirt Drive February 21 ~ March 4, 2011 How's this for awesome? Ogden Elementary in Wilmington NC is helping out College Park Elementary with a shirt drive! This isn't the first time students and parents at Ogden Elementary have helped College Park Elementary, they held a book drive last Fall to collect books for the classrooms. Now they're at it again with a Shirt Drive!

Comfort Socks. Comfort for homeless people and their families. I recently read an article in our local paper about Comfort Socks. And I was immediately touched by their mission. Imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks, day in, day out, with no opportunity to wash or change them. You are homeless and have nothing but what you are wearing, you are on your feet most of the day and your socks are wet from being out in the elements.
