As Time Goes By Last night, my wife and I attended the calling hours of our former dentist. Actually, he was more than just our dentist. He was once our neighbor, and friend. Andy and his wife, Joyce, lived a street over from us. All the homes built on the final two streets of the neighborhood were all built within a few months of each other. As a result, a bunch of thirty-something couples and their kids all moved in at the same time. We all aged together, our kids grew up together, and friendships began that have lasted thirty-plus years. (2 comments)

Savor Every Holiday Moment Christmas is right around the corner, and if your household is like mine, there is tremendous hustling and bustling going on in anticipation of Christmas morning. I have a thirty-something son, who is our family’s version of Peter Pan. Christmas is for him, is exactly the same as when he was 4-years old. He loves Christmas. He is a joy to behold. A more kind, or giving, or loving person you won’t find on our spinning planet on Christmas day. His joy is contagious. My Dad, Now Here Was a Man As many of you older folk will recall, I borrowed the title of this post from a song sung by Paul Peterson back in 1962, on the Donna Reed Show. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Even to this day, I get a little teary-eyed when I hear it. Compartmentalizing God I wonder how many of you have undergone the same metamorphosis. Earlier in my life…in an effort to fit in, I tried to please everyone. To the buddies I bowled with, I was one person. I could be crude and lewd with the best of them. To my fellow workers, I could be Mr. Cold and Calculating. To my wife and kids, I could me Mr. Warm and Fuzzy. To members of my Parish, I could be Mr. Holier than Thou. I tried to be all things to all people, and by doing so…I became lost.
