mother teresa: If It Is To Be... - 09/01/16 02:01 AM
OK, let’s finish the quote together…If it is to be…it is up to me.
The quote is made up of ten two-letter words and is so simple in its grammatical structure, and yet is so powerful and profound in its depth. This quote came to mind yesterday when I came across two things which caught my attention on the Internet.
One of the things which caught my attention was this very powerful story of a Florida State football player named, Travis Rudolph, who was visiting a high school when he spied a young man sitting alone in the cafeteria eating lunch. Travis went … (3 comments)

Taking the Time to Know the People Around You
Several hours ago I received an email from a high school classmate of mine. He had attached an article about a high school biology teacher we both had well over 50 years ago. This teacher was celebrating her 100th birthday. There was a picture of her standing at a table cutting her birthday cake. The years have been kind to her. I am thinking that she must have cooked up something in her lab because I think she discovered a pill to stop aging. Despite a few more gray hairs, she looked just … (2 comments)

mother teresa: When Did So Many of Us Stop Really Seeing Each Other? - 09/30/15 10:41 PM
When Did So Many of Us Stop Really Seeing Each Other?
I sometimes find myself scratching what little hair I have left when I listen to the news anymore. I am fascinated by the heavens, and I watch and read anything I can get my hands on about outer space. We are at point in our history where we are rapidly expanding our knowledge of the worlds beyond ours. We just found that there is water on Mars, and we are now seeing close up photos of Pluto…just ponder for a moment on this one achievement by mankind. We launched a probe to … (0 comments)

Each Of Us Can Make A Difference In Our Own Way
I read this story on Yahoo yesterday, and it made me immediately think of this quote from Mother Teresa. She said the following..." In this life, we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love."
Perhaps you saw this story too. It’s about a man named Steve Weider. Steve is a custodian at Alan Shepard Elementary School in Bourbonnais, Illinois. There was a picture which accompanied the story...and if truth be told, that is really what caught my attention first. The picture showed school children lined up … (6 comments)

mother teresa: I Hope There Is a Special Place In Heaven - 05/21/15 01:41 AM
I Hope There Is a Special Place In Heaven
Yesterday I wrote a post entitled, “I Hope There Is a Special Place in Hell”. It was about a family who set up numerous charities to supposedly help cancer victims. They collected $180,000,000…and then spent the majority of the money on themselves. The Feds have closed down operations, and the family is certainly going to end up in big trouble-but not before they blew through most of the money.
I hate people who take advantage of other people, or situations. I am a harsh critic of human behavior; especially my own. My actions, my … (38 comments)

mother teresa: I Hope There Is a Special Place In Hell - 05/20/15 01:14 AM
I saw the following story the other day and it made my blood boil. It seems a man and his family collected almost $200 million dollars in charitable donations for cancer patients…and then spent almost all of it on themselves. They gave themselves lavish vacations, bought expensive cars, paid for college for their kids, and employed themselves at six-figure salaries.
According to the government, they raised money through the Cancer Fund of America in Knoxville, Tennessee, and its affiliated Cancer Support Services; The Breast Cancer Society in Mesa, Arizona; and the Children's Cancer Fund of America in Powell, Tennessee.
They employed telemarketers to … (4 comments)

mother teresa: Where Is God? - 05/05/15 06:15 AM
Where Is God?
I am a news junkie, and I love to read the various Internet headlines each day to sort of get a pulse on what is on people’s minds. If you follow the news like I do, you will notice that we have a difficult time trying to figure out where God should be. Throughout the week, there are stories about the Pope, stories about the decline of one particular faith, stories about the rise in numbers of another faith, stories lamenting about God not being allowed in schools, stories about a particular group complaining about religion overstepping its bounds.
On … (10 comments)

mother teresa: The Butterfly Effect - 03/17/15 03:37 AM
The Butterfly Effect
This past Sunday, I saw a story on “CBS Sunday Morning” that sort of took my breath away. It was a very short piece lasting just over 2 minutes about a man named Chris Rosati. CBS journalist, Steve Hartman, told of Rosati’s efforts to empower kids in a piece entitled, “The Butterfly Effect.”
The story was intriguing on two fronts. First, Chris Rosati has ALS…better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS gradually destroys the nerves responsible for muscle movement, including those used for respiration. At the time of the story’s filming, Rosati was confined to a wheelchair and … (0 comments)

mother teresa: Learning to See Again - 02/27/15 01:23 AM
Just like dozens of other things in life, we take our ability to see for granted. While many among us are actually blind and physically incapable of seeing…there are many more of us who have our sight, yet fail to see.
We tell ourselves that our lives are so hectic that we don’t have time to get involved in someone else’s issues and problems, so we purposely narrow our field of vision. Over time, we become jaded in our thinking and allow ourselves to believe that another’s misfortune rests solely on the shoulders of that individual; so we turn away. … (2 comments)

mother teresa: Choose Your Words Very Carefully - 01/20/15 01:06 AM
Choose Your Words Very Carefully
My dad used to tell me all the time, “It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.”  History is unclear whether Lincoln, or Twain said it first…but my dad certainly said this kernel of wisdom on more than one occasion to my brother and me whenever we would speak out of turn.
Of all the things the priest, who married my wife and me some 45 years ago, said during marriage classes; this was the smartest, “You can never take it back once it comes out … (4 comments)

Kindness Also Served at Chick-fil-A
I actively look for feel-good stories; especially now, with all the hurtful things going on in the world. When I find one of these stories, I like to share it with as many people as I can. It is the only hope we have for the world. Unless we all do our best to tell the world that there are angels who walk among us, we tend to adopt the attitude that the world is a cruel place where it is better to get “them”, before they have a chance to get you.
So with the … (2 comments)

mother teresa: Identifying the Person Holding Back Your Career - 12/31/14 01:16 AM
Identifying the Person Holding Back Your Career
OK…the minute you read the headline you knew who I was going to identify as the person holding you back from achieving your dreams. Collectively, let’s all say it together. Ready? One, two, three…the number one person holding me back in my career is…MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I am a big advocate of self-help tapes, CD, videos, and books which provide valuable information on how to be successful.  Without exception, they all say that we sabotage our careers more than anyone else. We know that instinctively. We didn’t need to spend $25 to have Tony Robbins tells … (0 comments)

mother teresa: What's it all about, Alfie? - 12/16/14 01:11 AM
What's it all about, Alfie?
You have to be working your way towards retirement to have any idea what this headline means...or you have to be a movie buff with a passion for old movies.
I was following the breaking story of the terrorist attack in Pakistan in which at least 130 people were gunned down today by a murderous bunch of monsters. Couple that with the hostage situation in Australia which took place yesterday, or the hundreds of other senseless acts of violence occurring on a daily basis and I silently said to myself, “What’s it all about?” Habit had … (2 comments)

mother teresa: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - 11/26/13 02:18 AM
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Ah, in just two days it will be Thanksgiving. The glorious aroma of turkey roasting in the oven, a host of  other wonderful smells emanating from the kitchen, wine being poured into our best stemware, and the laughter of family drowning out the Macy’s Day parade on television…yes, these are the things that remind many of us of the joys of Thanksgiving.
My brother-in-law, Kenny, and I have a tradition of our own. As soon as we have eaten, and the dining room has been cleared of way too much food and dirty dishes…we sit down to … (2 comments)

mother teresa: Spread Love Wherever You Go - 10/25/13 05:18 AM
With the world the way it is today, to keep from going crazy I actively search out stories like the one I am about to share with you . It is a way of keeping me grounded. It is way for me to be reassured that the world is not falling apart. Our government may be coming unraveled…but its people are still strong in character…at least those of us not in Washington DC.
It seems a few friends of a pizza shop owner asked to borrow his keys one night after the Chicago store had closed. They had told the owner … (2 comments)

mother teresa: Lessons from Rio - 08/05/13 12:40 AM
The World Longs to Move in a New Direction
Last week the world watched as over 3 million people from around the world assembled on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to hear a simple, but profound message of love and hope. They came to hear a message about turning back to God, and away from the trappings of this world. The message was delivered with intellectual integrity because it was given by a man who has shunned the trappings of his office as Pope.
Pope Francis carries his own bags, lives in a spartan apartment and not the lavish … (5 comments)

You Are a Powerful Force in the World!
We go throughout our lives comparing ourselves to the doers, and the shakers of the world…and most of the time we think we fail to measure up. For most of us, we don’t have our last name on the sides of planes, or helicopters, or buildings. We don’t have anyone quaking in their boots over the opportunity to meet us. No one asks for our autograph, or stops to get a picture taken with us. We don’t have a staff of people catering to our every whim. We are not millionaires, or billionaires.

mother teresa: Picking up the Pieces After Boston - 04/26/13 12:06 AM
Picking up the Pieces After Boston is a continuation of my previous blog.
For the average American, the horrific events of Boston seem to reach down deep to the very core of our souls, and leave a painful scar. You see and hear about the lives lost, the lives changed forever, and you are consumed by the overwhelming senselessness of it all. Those responsible, with the death and injury they caused, changed no one’s faith. These terrorists, in destroying their own lives and causing untold hurt and shame upon their own families, didn’t change the foreign policy of the United States in the … (0 comments)
