thomas craig blog: The Scantity of Life - 01/09/13 12:41 AM
The Sanctity of Life
I read this article yesterday on Yahoo…perhaps you did too. The story was about a dog found shot in the head and face by a monster with a pellet gun. The dog was found thrown in a garbage bag, like yesterday’s trash, and left to die by the side of a road.
Discovered earlier this month by Good Samaritans in Conroe, Texas, the dog took just a few steps before he collapsed after being released from the bag. Authorities speculate that this 3-year old mixed breed was a “bait dog”, a dog used for practice by fight dogs. … (4 comments)

Man’s Best Friend
I received this link this morning, and I thought I would share it with you. It moved me a great deal. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I think we sometimes trivialize the range of emotions our pets have. By doing so, we shortchange ourselves. Animals are one of the greatest gifts we received from God. Our world would be a darker place without them.
About 10 years ago, we had two dogs. The two dogs used to lay underneath a sofa table in our family room. One dog would lie down, and … (11 comments)

thomas craig blog: Where is the Line to See Jesus? - 12/20/12 01:01 AM
Where is the Line to See Jesus?
I attended my granddaughter’s Christmas pageant last night, and the children from her second grade class sang the song, Where’s the Line to See Jesus? Being a mediocre word-smith myself, hearing something catchy like that peaks my curiosity. I couldn’t wait to get on my computer and dig into the story of how the song came to be written.
Inspired by grandson, Spencer Reigers, the song was written and performed by father and daughter, Steve Haupt and Becky Kelly. It seems that little 4 year old Spencer was at the mall and saw all the children lined up … (10 comments)

My wife forward this to me, and I just wanted to share it with you. Perhaps you have seen it already, but if you haven't...you are in for a treat! It is a flash mob video taking place in a mall. Turn up the volume and sit back an enjoy. After the past several days, we need a reminder of how wonderful a nation we have, and how wonderful a people we are. Pay special attention to the crowd's reaction to the event...

thomas craig blog: Our Hearts are Broken - 12/16/12 10:09 AM
It wasn't supposed to be this way...the world for weeks has been focused on the celebration of a baby's arrival two thousand years ago. No, we weren't supposed to suffer this unspeakable horror of losing our babies now, of all times. Please God, no...not at this time! Letters to Santa were written by children just learning to print and spell.  Children, maybe for the first time, had worked up the courage to sit in Santa's lap, and in a quivering whisper tell Santa their heart' s desires. Parents had held discussions around the kitchen table on how to finance what was requested … (5 comments)

My Dad, Now Here Was a Man
As many of you older folk will recall, I borrowed the title of this post from a song sung by Paul Peterson back in 1962, on the Donna Reed Show. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Even to this day, I get a little teary-eyed when I hear it. The first couple of verses are below…
He isn't much in the eyes of the world
He'll never make history
No, he isn't much in the eyes of the world
But he is the world to me
My dad, now here is … (26 comments)

thomas craig blog: Peace Be With You! - 12/09/12 04:54 AM
I posted this last Christmas. I thought it some of my best work, so I thought i would repost it. I truly hope you can find comfort in reading it.
Peace to You this Christmas Season
The word “Peace” sure gets used an awful lot this time a year. It appears on Christmas cards. It shows up on all sorts of decorations…from Christmas ornaments to window displays. It is a politically correct safe word. After all, who could possibly become offended when the word “peace” is used in a sentence? We all want the world to live in peace…don’t we?
Yet, … (7 comments)

Part Two: Angus T Jones…Honoring God Comes With a Big Price Tag.
In my blog yesterday, I spoke of our need to be true to God…that our lives can’t be broken down into bits and pieces. We can’t be vulgar and crude, or mean and uncaring in one part of our life-and then be kind and concerned, righteous and pious in another part of our life…and then think we are being faithful to God. It doesn’t work that way. You are either all-in, or you are all-out. You must practice what you preach. You are either faithful to God, or you … (2 comments)

Does Your Life Bring Honor to God?
We are heading into the holiday season, and this is as good a time as any to take an accounting of our lives. We humans THINK we are an independent lot. Yet, most of us are “pleasers”. We WANT people to like us, and many times…in an attempt to please, we become all things to all people.
We find this especially true in real estate. We deal with all sorts of people. It is easy to become a chameleon, based on the personalities of your client. You can turn yourself into an assertive, aggressive … (8 comments)

Black Friday
Well…it’s coming. It is just a few days away!
We have all become accustomed to Black Friday. It’s the Friday after Thanksgiving…the day we begin our holiday shopping. This year, because of the throng of bargain hunters; many stores are now open on Thanksgiving Day. Many stores have even increased their Internet sales activity in an attempt to take some of the stress from their stores. CNN, in a recent report, stated that Black Friday had become a “holiday” of its own.
My local paper had a story in the paper about a roadie for a professional band … (5 comments)

What I Would Do If I Hit the Lottery
Have you ever given any thought to what you would do if you hit the lottery? Boy, I know I sure do! I think about it all the time…but then I rarely buy a ticket. I guess if you are ever going to hit the jackpot, you must first spend a buck to buy a ticket.
My wife and I were married when we were both 20-years old. I was working part time in a grocery store and Steph, my wife, worked in the library at Kent State University. I paid my … (5 comments)

General David Petraeus: Another Tragedy of War
I am a political junkie. I just never seem to get my fix. I watch and read everything before me when it comes to politics. Reading the papers and the Internet, and watching television, or listening to the radio in my car this past week has been so sad.
Prior to the election, it seemed the media was just not interested in what happened in a desolate American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. Now, the media vultures can’t seem to get their fill. What brought the deaths of 4 patriots, murdered by yet another angry … (8 comments)

My Guy Didn’t Win
Over the coming days, weeks, and months much will be written as to why Mitt Romney didn’t win Tuesday’s election, and why President Obama was elected for a second term. I must confess, I am deeply saddened and disappointed…as I am sure everyone else who voted for him is as well.
Conversely, to those of you who felt that President Obama was the better person to run our country, you must feel vindicated that there more of you, then there were of us. I sincerely hope that your faith and judgment of the man is correct.

Sweetest Day
This past Saturday, we folks in the Great Lakes region celebrated Sweetest Day.  Many of you, in other parts of the country, are reading this and thinking to yourselves…”Sweetest Day, what the heck is he talking about?” Up until a few years ago, I didn’t realize Sweetest Day wasn’t celebrated EVERYWHERE. It wasn’t until we were traveling one October around Sweetest Day when I discovered that the locals had no idea what I was talking about…but to be perfectly candid, most of the time no one knows what I am talking about. Anyway, back to the story…
Sweetest Day … (8 comments)

If I Only Had More Time!
God, how I wish I had more time. No matter where we go, we continually hear that phrase. Our lives seem so hectic…there’s always so much to do! We seem to constantly be running in circles. We have more things to do than we have time to do them.
God, how I wish I had more time…I wonder how many of you, when you read that sentence, thought of it in the way I really intended. Many times, we use the word “god” interchangeably with the word “gosh”…such as; Gosh, I wish I had more … (8 comments)

Is Anyone Else Getting Fed Up?
I just read on the Internet that a college university was being sued over their pregame prayer ritual prior its football games. It seems that some anti-religious group feels the practice should be discontinued on the principle of “separation of church and state.”
The co-president of the group was quoted as saying, "This is a public university, not a Christian club. It's open to all comers and should be welcoming". When you're not religious or are of another faith and you get prayed at during events, it's really very grating. It's a sock in … (5 comments)

Remembering 9/11
Today’s is our generation’s Pearl Harbor. Just at December 7, 1941, was our parent’s “Day of Infamy”…today is such a day for us. We shall always remember what we were doing that day…where we were.
I remember being in my office, sitting down, doing paperwork; when the news came over the radio that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. I remember thinking to myself, “How stupid could that pilot possibly be?” I had imagined that it had been some small little plane; which had hit one of the towers. I thought to myself that … (6 comments)

Mother Found Guilty of Murder
Last week, I walked out of the house to get the morning paper, and as I opened it; my eyes went directly to a picture of a mother sobbing and holding her head in her hands. As I looked closer at the picture, I could see that around her wrists were handcuffs.
The picture was taken in a courtroom in Summit County, Ohio. Mom had just been found guilty in the death of her 17-month little boy. Her son, Patrick, had died from methamphetamine poisoning. At the time of his death, his mother and her boyfriend were out … (2 comments)

Our Spiritual Journey
I grew up in a small town in Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. In fact It was so small, I remember the celebration as the population grew above 5,000 and we officially went from “town” to “city”. I attended Sunday school as a youngster, and our family attended services on a regular basis.
One of my favorite movies growing up as a child was the 1938 movie Boy’s Town, starring Spencer Tracy as Father Flanagan; the founder of Boys Town in Nebraska. I must have watched that movie a dozen times, as this courageous priest fought to … (6 comments)

My Self-Imposed Exile from God
I don’t know about you, but from time to time, I feel pretty far away from God. I wish it weren’t so. I wish each day, I would wake up brimming with faith…but I don’t. During these periods, as hard as I try to focus my thoughts on good and righteous things…there seems to be this static in the airwaves between God and me.
I have felt this way the past several months, and it is reflected in the lack of postings on my blog. I use this blog as my formal prayer to God. Looking … (8 comments)
