murrieta blog: Look! Up In The Sky! It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's Supermeme!!! - 06/16/08 09:44 AM
I got tagged not once, not twice, but three times for a meme in one week. My eternal thanks to Deb Brooks, Ricki Eichler and Cynthia Tilghman. It's been a while since I've done a meme, and I was intrigued by the super meme. So here goes...

1. Who is your favorite musical artist? Okay, this is a no brainer. I have been a fan of Little Feat for more than three decades. I've been fortunate enough to become friends with the band members and have travelled with them to Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Denmark and Norway. Here's … (32 comments)

murrieta blog: From Artichokes To Zinfandel - California In 48 Hours - 06/05/08 01:15 AM

We Californians are blessed to live in a state with such an abundance of beauty and bounty. Friday morning, Laura and I took off for an afternoon and evening in Paso Robles enroute to see R.E.M. Saturday night at the Greek Theatre. We stopped for lunch in Santa Barbara, then finished the five hour and change drive to Paso Robles. If you've see tne move Sideways, you've seen some of the area. It is gorgeous and home of some of the best wines California has to offer.

Our first stop was at Zenaida Cellars. We were … (25 comments)

murrieta blog: Recognize That Redhead? - 05/19/08 11:06 AM

If you guessed Bonnie Raitt, go to the head of the class. I went to the Doheny Blues Festival yesterday and Bonnie was the headliner.

I was fortunate enough to be backstage as my favorite group Little Feat went on before her set. I was able to not only meet her, but to have my picture taken with her! Don't believe me? Well, here's the proof!

Umm, did I mention my friend Laura had never used my camera before? Oh, well. It ws great fun and I'll never forget it. Bonnie's set was … (37 comments)

murrieta blog: Angels In Murrieta Assist Our Troops - 05/06/08 07:46 AM

Jan Bates is truly an angel. For the past several years, Jan has worked tirelessly motivating agents and affiliates to round up supplies for our troops in Iraq and then taken care of packaging and mailing them. Boxes of socks, beef jerky, Otter Pops, cookies, books, games and many other items are donated and sent to platoons that Jan has "adopted". The reports we get back tell us that it's like Christmas when the packages arrive.
Each week at the MLS marketing meeting we pass a can to collect postage to ship the items. After today's meeting, Jan asked me if … (19 comments)

murrieta blog: Wrapping Up My Visit To Texas - San Antonio's Riverwalk - 05/04/08 10:59 AM

My wonderful hostess Judi Morgan took me to San Antonio's famed Riverwalk on the final day of my recent visit to Texas. After a nice lunch and another great visit with Jason Crouch, we hopped in the car and drove to Riverwalk. Judi showed me "Wedding Island", where she and Don exchanged vows last year.

From there we strolled and then did what any good tourist does. We took the tour boat. If you ever visit San Antonio, don't miss your opportunity to explore Riverwalk. I would haved loved to have been able to spend the rest of the … (22 comments)

murrieta blog: We Are Not The Only Victims - Pets Suffer, Too - 04/24/08 06:04 AM
Ben Stein talked about it this past Sunday on CBS Sunday Morning. The Press Enterprise talked about it, too:

Shelters filling up with four-legged victims of foreclosures
As if that weren't bad enough, Animal Friends of The Valleys suffered a tragedy February 28th when a trailer with 24 puppies/dogs and 15 cats burned killing all 39 animals.
This Sunday April 27th a fund-raiser will be held at the Lake Elsinore Storm's Diamond Club. Although a new shelter is being built, it won't be ready for another two years. In the meantime, the trailer, cages and equipment that were destroyed need to be replaced. … (25 comments)

murrieta blog: Wineries In Texas??? Y'All Better Believe It! - 04/17/08 01:27 PM

As I live and breathe I didn't know Texas produced wine. I now know they produce quality wine. Judi Morgan and her husband Don were my gracious hosts during my surprise visit to the Lone Star State. After Saturday's incredible Active Rain gathering in Bandera, Judi and Don offered to take me to Fredericksburg, To see the historic German town and visit the local wineries.
On the drive from San Antonio, we stopped to photograph some of the gorgeous wildflowers; Indian Paintbrush, primroses and the last of the season bluebonnets. You'll see those shots in an upcoming post. We got to … (49 comments)

murrieta blog: What's Tom Plant Doing On The Floor? - 04/13/08 11:58 AM

Judi Morgan is a devious woman. She called me a few months back to seek my help in organizing an Active Rain gathering in San Antonio next year during Coldwell Banker's annual International Business Conference. I told her I'd be happy to help. A few weeks later, Judi called to let me know she and Ricki Eichler were hosting an AR barbeque in Bandera, Texas and would I like to come.
Did I mention I'm writing this post at Judi's house in San Antonio? Yesterday was the big day and I was the surprise guest. The event was a ton of … (75 comments)

murrieta blog: Emily's Family Needs Your Help - 04/10/08 11:19 AM
Every once in a while you hear a story that tears your heart out. I got an email today from a fellow agent at my office:
Attached is the picture of Emily Locricchio. She is a 7th grader at Thompson who died April 7th of asthma attack. She went to school Friday and was in the hospital over the weekend. She was airlifted to Loma Linda where she died early Monday morning. Emily had an asthma attack that closed her airways completely. This is a tragedy for her family and friends.
Her brother is a 4th grader here at Cole … (44 comments)

murrieta blog: Don't Know Who Paul Thorn Is? Do Yourself A Favor And Find Out - 04/05/08 10:08 AM

I first heard Paul Thorn's music last year on XM Radio. Since then I have purchased every bit of his music I can find and have seen him in concert twice. I had the pleasure of hearing Paul play at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach near San Diego this past Wednesday night. Before the show I went backstage and visited with Paul and the band and gave each of them a copy of my book flora.

Paul is a fascinating man and one of the most gifted songwriters I have had the fortune of hearing. He and road … (18 comments)

murrieta blog: Roogles, Lacrosse, Pulled Pork & Blue Cheese - Just Another Sunday In Temecula - 04/03/08 07:26 AM
A while back I wrote about Jim Lilly and The Wine Company. - Temecula Business Spotlight Shines On - The Wine Company
This past Sunday, Jim introduced a group of his customers to David Townsend from The Grateful Palate. David's 14 year old daughter Ceili (pronounced Kaylee) plays lacrosse at Chapparal High School. Ceili plays alongside 300 pound boys and more than holds her own. The problem is, the school district hasn't sanctioned the team yet.

To raise some money toward the effort of getting the team sanctioned, David offered a sampling of 15 different Australian wines, the majority of them Shiraz. … (10 comments)

murrieta blog: Old Town Temecula Farmers' Market - Summer Must Not Be Far Behind - 03/31/08 08:04 AM

The Temecula Valley offers spectacular growing conditions for everything from wine grapes to delicious fruits and vegetables. One of the things I love about this time of year is the Farmers' Market each Saturday in Old Town Temecula. I paid a visit this past Saturday and came home with flowers and Greek olives, and munched on dolmas and a gyro for lunch.
Old Town is vibrant and the Farmers' Market is a big part of that. Here are a few more shots for you.

murrieta blog: Real Estate Connect, SF - You Are Planning On Being There, Aren't You? - 03/28/08 06:29 AM

Let's quote Bob Stewart, shall we? "If you miss the next Inman in July in San Francisco (or if that's too far and you miss the one a year from now in New York) you are crazy!!"
What did I learn at Inman?I can't tell you what an incredible experience this past January's Real Estate Connect, meeting fellow Active Rainers and absorbing a wealth of information about blogging, social networking and the real estate industry. I spoke with Matt Heaton yesterday and he assured me there will be an AR gathering, but no formal plans have been drawn up yet. … (13 comments)

murrieta blog: What Happens In Vegas... - 03/17/08 10:09 AM

WOW! Chris and I drove to Las Vegas Friday and had the time of our lives. Friday evening we had to good fortune to see Bette Midler's new show at Caesar's Palace, "The Showgirl Must Go On". Anyone who had any doubts about her ability to take Celine Dion's place can put them to rest here and now. If you get the opportunity to go, don't miss it! Simply put it is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Period. She is a diva and she is divine. Judge Judy was seated three rows in front of us.

murrieta blog: A Life Left Behind - 03/02/08 07:03 AM

I took some clients out to see homes yesterday. They were a lovely couple, excited about purchasing a home for their family. They saw a home near the first one we had previewed and asked if we could see it. I called the office and found out it was vacant. When I opened the door, I was in shock.
It literally looked liked this family had left in the middle of the night, grabbing what they could before leaving the the life they once had behind. There were toys strewn about the floor. There were piles of trash everywhere. There were … (102 comments)
