OK, I have had three conversations about popcorn ceilings in the last week. It is a SIGN that I should post about Pop Corn Ceilings. Here in Hoover, Alabama, Pop Corn ceilings were really popular in the 70's and 80's. The texture hid a LOT of sins. If the ceilings get wet - from a roof leak, overflowing bathroom on the floor above, or excessive moisture on the bathroom ceiling from a really hot shower, the popcorn will start to bubble. When your realtor prepares to sell your home, that person will look at what homes have been selling for in the area immediately surrounding your home. What homes are selling for is what sets the Market Value - or what you can expect to get for your home. Prices have come down in Hoover Alabama, just like they have in the rest of the country, so it is unrealistic to expect to get the same amount of money your neighbor down the street got two years ago.

I was showing a house to a client the other day. They wanted to look up in the attic and pulled down the pull-down attic stairs to go up into the attic. The ladder looked very precarious. I have been to several home inspections where there were problems with the pull-down attic stairs. If you have pull-down attic stairs and they don't work properly, it may be time to install a new unit. You can replace the whole pull-down unit for a couple hundred dollars.
