The real estate bubble created from 1997 to July 2006 was unprecedented. The current rise in prices looks to surpass this recent history. There are no simple answers. The only ways to slow down this price escalation is to either raise interest rates or stop FHA & VA Financing and require larger down payments. Congress has also suggested taking away the tax benefits. The cure is worse than the illness. (Chart provided by Case Shiller)

tony lewis: You know what's weird? Government bails out banks but banks won't accept FHA Government Loans!

Hypocrisy! Most Realtors have run into a situation of making an offer on a REO/Bank Owned/Foreclosure listing with an offer that had FHA Financing. This type of loan is Government insured. Lenders in masses will turn down the FHA financed offer when giving another offer equal or even close to the same amount. It is a sad state of affairs in America when the very banks that have been bailed out by the Government have the right to discriminate against the same Government! Home prices have fallen below the price they would be today had the bubble not been created. Mortgage Interest Rates are at an unsustainable low level and buyers will fear missing out. Home Owners have been in the same homes much longer than usual and will want to move. First Time Buyers are being encouraged to get out and buy a home by family and friends. There is simply too much money sitting on the side lines and real estate is a safe haven once again. Lenders are approving short sales at a rate unheard of just 2 years ago. This … (5 comments)
