donna singh: Freehold Parkdale Townhome in Toronto - 01/29/12 01:25 PM
Here is your chance to get into Parkdale neighborhood with this freehold townhome. There is a row of about 8 townhouses that was built in the late 1980's. These homes are huge compared to the tiny shoeboxes that are being built today. This townhome is well over 2000 sqft, features 3 generous sized bedroom and a large family sized kitchen with walkout to the deck. Combined dining room and living room with a gas fireplace overlooking leafy Springhurst Ave. On the 2nd level there is another deck with a view of the lake, a nice spot to hang out on a sunny summer afternoon.

Just east of Queen and Leslie there is a beehive of activity on a former service repair lot. There is going to be new townhomes built here in the near future, this is a small infill project. donna singh: Drinking Beer on the Move - 02/24/11 02:33 AM
Could this be the end of the beer tents and gardens at festivals in Ontario. The Ontario government will be hosting public discussions on removing barriers in public places when consuming beer.
Street festival like The Taste of Danforth, will be impacted too, you could sip your beer down the Danforth as you take in the street atmosphere and food. This will have a direct hit on restaurants and bars, some people will more than likely bring their own alcoholic beverages.
This takes me to another festival, Caribana. I've heard this organization raise much needed funds through sponsorships via beer tents … (3 comments)

donna singh: Toronto, Canada Top 4 in Liveability Study - 02/22/11 04:48 AM

From the folks at Economist Intelligence Unit, they have voted that Toronto has ranked number 4 in the most of the Liveability Cities.  We are just 0.8 away from the leading contender Vancouver in the number 1 spot that scored 98 out of a 100.

The study was based on 30 factors such as health care, culture, environment, education and personal safety to rank the cities.
The worst cities in the world was Zimbabwe with a score of 140 due mostly to crime and stability issues. In the middle ground cities like New York City 53rd at … (1 comments)

donna singh: 6 more weeks to Spring - 02/02/11 03:05 AM
Have you heard? Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow today so now we know spring is around corner. Yippeee!!!! This is great news as the City of Toronto and South Western Ontario is shut down with the snow storm. I think we are getting off lucky as 15-20cm of snow is not nearly as crazy as the folks down south are facing- Chicago is expecting to get a whopping 60cm of snowfall.
Parents and kids are enjoying a surprise snow day off today.  Have fun in the snow and if you have to drive in it, then take it easy.

donna singh: New Mortgage Rules for Canada - 01/17/11 09:40 AM
We have a few new rules that are being implemented by the Canadian government in an effort to limit the debt that are being extend to households. Canadian debt levels are rising higher than incomes.
I suspect it will not have a major impact on our housing market but as a buyer you will need to know this information especially if you were counting on them.
The amortization period is now limited to 30 years down from 35 years.
The maximum line of equity you can take out of your home is now 85% down from 90%. I think this is … (3 comments)

donna singh: Best time to buy a home in Toronto - 01/04/11 06:52 AM
Our Canadian economy is set to shine in 2011 according to Wall Street mega giant Goldman Sachs. As they see our jobless rate declining and our loonie hitting a high of $1.05 (U.S.)
Goldman Sachs also upgraded the U.S. economy forecast as it took into effect the latest tax and fiscal stimulus package that was signed by President Obama. As the U.S. is Canada's biggest market this will support our economy as we ship 2/3 of our exports to them.
Interest rate will remain relatively low, rates are not expected to rise until the end of the 4th quarter in 2011.

donna singh: Dufferin Jog No More - 11/19/10 04:45 AM
As of yesterday the Dufferin jog is history! Finally we can travel north and south on Dufferin Street without doing the jog over to Peel St. Motorists and cyclist rejoice, pedestrians too.
Just to west of Dufferin St. the once fenced in railway lands eyesore has been reclaimed. Our city planners created a wonderful area now known as the Parkdale Square. Huge limestone blocks from the old bridge has been re-used in the making of the square. This is now a public space that we can all enjoy.
I now have a destination for the beautiful summer months, sometimes I just … (0 comments)

donna singh: A place for someone in dire need-Parkdale - 11/19/10 04:26 AM
I have seen such dire need in Parkdale amid all the buzz of an up and coming hip neighborhood, newly renovated Edwardian mansions amongst fancy restaurants.
At the top of Queen St. West and Dowling Ave., there are a group of people that run a local drop in community centre for residents in the area, Parkdale Activity Recreation Centre. Most of these people are survivors of the psychiatric system. They live in numerous rooming and boarding houses Parkdale was known for, these folks have little support systems, low income and few family ties, usually with no place to be during the … (0 comments)
