Well, the Big Day -Memorial Day - finally arrived. I've made a few posts about some of the activities leading up to it:

On Monday morning, Ms. Sue and I headed down towards Dothan, Alabama to Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. It was a much bigger event than I had assumed it would be. Follow-up on my post from Saturday:  6,809 flags...
So far, two t.v. stations have picked up the story. One has a story on their website as well as run an On-air spot, and the other did a lengthier On-air spot.
I've taken a peek on-line at the Local Newspapers and haven't seen anything there yet. Hopefully there will be some coverage in them as well. With so many local Memorial Day activities going on this week-end, they could almost devote a whole issue to covering them!

Saturday morning in Enterprise, Alabama, the V.F.W. Post 6683 set up shop at the Tractor Supply Company in one of our Buddy Poppy Fund Raisers. Donations are accepted and used to help local Veterans in need - financially and otherwise. We also sold sausages and other food items - yummmmmm!

BUDDY POPPY The VFW conducted its first poppy distribution before Memorial Day in 1922, becoming the first veterans' organization to organize a nationwide distribution. The poppy soon was adopted as the official memorial flower of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

6,809 flags were placed....
6,809 flags were placed on the Church grounds on Friday morning.
    One flag for each Military death in Iraq and Afghanistan.
6,809 flags were placed on the Church grounds on Friday morning. 
    These are at the Church that my family attends, The Grace Place, in Enterprise, Alabama.

    Our Pastor, Donny Thrasher, is a Retired Military Chaplain and has seen a lot of these deaths.
