the sold man: "the SOLD man" - who'n'how'n'what....?!?! - 09/30/14 04:38 AM
"the SOLD man" - who'n'how'n'what....?!?!
A brief background first:
I was stationed at Ft. Rucker in the early 70's and started teaching the drummers in the Enterprise High School Band (one of several towns next-door or close by). I then started a music store here which I had for almost 35 years. I've played in MANY local bands covering various types of music (rock, country, Christian, Maqrching Band, etc...) and to varying degrees of "success" (i.e. - garage-band caliber to recording artists). Also taught drums (Percussion) at the local Community College and other area schools. So, most are people know … (19 comments)

the sold man: J.O.E. (Jesus Owns Everything) "The Video"....well, almost - 06/19/14 12:54 PM
Just got a rough draft of the video that I wrote a post on that we shot last summer by the Christian Rock Band that I play with, "J.O.E. (Jesus Owns Everything)".
The joke was that it took 6 months just to get the C.D. mixed, so a Video would take a year.
Here we are, almost a year later.....
I know we did two other songs, so maybe by ....
Obviously, "lip-syncing" to the C.D. track, which helped me a lot as I'd just broken my leg right before the shoot.
We're made up of members of 3 different … (6 comments)

the sold man: Memorial Day Weekend in Enterprise, AL - Monday - 05/27/14 08:36 AM
Well, the Big Day -Memorial Day - finally arrived. I've made a few posts about some of the activities leading up to it:
Veterans & Scouts placing flags at Cemetary
6,809 Flags at the Church
VFW Buddy Poppies
6,809 coverage
On Monday morning, Ms. Sue and I headed down towards Dothan, Alabama to Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. It was a much bigger event than I had assumed it would be. They had one LARGE tent with a few hundred chairs in it for the Ceremony speakers and a few smaller tents for food. One local paper did a nice … (0 comments)

the sold man: 6,809 flags were placed....update - 05/26/14 07:36 AM
Follow-up on my post from Saturday:  6,809 flags...
So far, two t.v. stations have picked up the story. One has a story on their website as well as run an On-air spot, and the other did a lengthier On-air spot.
I've taken a peek on-line at the Local Newspapers and haven't seen anything there yet. Hopefully there will be some coverage in them as well. With so many local Memorial Day activities going on this week-end, they could almost devote a whole issue to covering them!
*EDIT - the newspapers did - here and here.

the sold man: Memorial Day Weekend in Enterprise, AL-VFW Buddy Poppy - 05/25/14 12:24 PM

Saturday morning in Enterprise, Alabama, the V.F.W. Post 6683 set up shop at the Tractor Supply Company in one of our Buddy Poppy Fund Raisers. Donations are accepted and used to help local Veterans in need - financially and otherwise. We also sold sausages and other food items - yummmmmm!
From the National VFW site:
BUDDY POPPY The VFW conducted its first poppy distribution before Memorial Day in 1922, becoming the first veterans' organization to organize a nationwide distribution. The poppy soon was adopted as the official memorial flower of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

the sold man: Memorial Day Weekend in Enterprise, AL - The Beginning of - 05/23/14 11:15 AM
To quote from Commander Bob Cooper of our Local VFW Chapter:
Q. What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?
A. Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered,
Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is … (0 comments)

the sold man: Over 100 streets to be repaired in Enterprise, AL - 05/13/14 01:43 PM

This year in Enterprise, Alabama, over 100 streets are scheduled for repairs to start this year at a guesstimated cost of almost three million dollars. Mayor Boswell stated that the more than 21 miles of road work is being funded by the restructure of old bonds from last year.
The Dothan Eagle has the article and the list HERE.
In spite of this impressive list, I personally know of SEVERAL busy streets that should be on it, but will have to wait for the next go-round.

the sold man: The Boll Weevil 100 in Enterprise, AL - 05/10/14 11:57 AM
Well, a semi-nice day to have the bike and distance running event know as "The Boll Weevil 100" here in Enterprise, Alabama. Started off around 70 degrees and didn't get too much warmer. Overcast and spotty showers kept the temperature down. I haven't seen the official numbers of runners and riders, but it should be a record year.
The local Enterprise Lions Club has spearheaded this effort. The VFW Chapter 6683, The American Legion Post 73, and L.A.V.A. (Lower Alabama Veterans Alliance) along with MANY local groups, organizations, businesses and individuals joined together to help show Wounded Veterans how much we care.

the sold man: New home sales in Alabama in March improve 14% from last year - 05/02/14 01:09 PM

March home sales increased 13.6% from the same period a year earlier, which is welcome news after a couple of sluggish months. But the first quarter was 1.2% behind the same quarter in 2013.
Metro Markets:  The 5 Major Metro Markets here - Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa - account for 70% of the State Market.
Pricing: The metro market's median new home sales price in December was $225,104, down 4.7% from last March and 4.3% from last month.
Demand: All major metro areas have matched or improved over last March. Tuscaloosa(same), Birmingham(17%), Montgomery(same), Huntsville(17%), and Mobile(17%). March … (4 comments)

the sold man: Alabama residential home sales in March improve 2% from last year - 04/26/14 09:59 AM
March sales now up 16% from its sales bottom in 2009.
Alabama residential sales totaled 3,596 units in March, an improvement in sales growth of 1.5 percent from last year and 347 units short of the ACRE monthly forecast. The YTD sales forecast through March projected 9,766 closed transactions while the actual sales were 9,120 units, 6% off which is just outside the margin of error. Sales for the first quarter were….”sluggish”. The next quarter will be a big factor in determining how the year goes. The annual sales forecast is for modest growth of 5% - but the sales growth through … (6 comments)

It is interesting to compare to pre-downturn era (March 2006) when the figure was 3.5 months of supply reporting a market that was too hot (the "good ol'days" that I keep hearing about!). But, the inventory level still remains high with an … (4 comments)

the sold man: Rattlesnake Rodeo in Opp, Alabama - 04/14/14 03:45 AM
The 53rd Annual Rattlesnake Rodeo was held this last weekend in the neighboring town of Opp (short for Opportunity), Alabama.

Local news did some pieces on it here.
The Rodeo even made National News and is in a clip here along with the Pope and China.
They had several Local and National musical acts playing on Saturday and Sunday, with the Christian Bands all on Sunday. The "Big Guys" were Hawk Nelson, Family Force 5, and Building 429.
Great weather - mid 70's - but I still burned some calories!!
Here are some photos of the Rodeo, the first … (3 comments)

the sold man: Work Day at the VFW in Enterprise, AL - 04/12/14 01:18 PM
Another Work Day at the John Wiley Brock Post V.F.W. (Veterans of the Foreign Wars) in Enterprise, Alabama.
The "younger" gentlemen doing most of the actual work are some NCO's from Ft. Rucker (next door to Enterprise). They cut the grass, put on roofing waterproofing, filled in holes on the grounds, and dozens of miscellaneous upkeep items.
The guy in the striped shirt with his wife is our State Representative, Barry Moore and his wife, Heather. He's been a regular at our functions and huge supporter, especially since he is a Veteran himself. Bob Cooper is our esteemed Post Commander … (0 comments)
