highland village: A Sign The Holidays Are Upon Us! - 11/08/17 09:06 AM
Today is finally one of those days. The gentle pinging of rain hits my patio and steam is billowing off my pool.
Ah, fall. You've arrived to the party! I thought your invitation was lost in the mail! After a record-high 93 degrees on Sunday, today's 45 degree-day is a reminder that if you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait a day or two.
I am not one to skip over holidays, especially Thanksgiving. It's one holiday that I truly enjoy because it signifies a celebration of rest. It is nestled between the chaos of Halloween a month prior, and the … (1 comments)

highland village: Search Continues For Missing Teen in Copper Canyon, TX - 04/30/14 11:55 PM
The search continues this morning for a teenager missing since last week from Dallas.

Last night, concerned residents in Castlewood of Highland Village were posting on neighborhood websites after police helicopters flew overhead for several hours.
18-year-old Alejandra Gonzalez was last seen walking along Chinn Chapel Road in Copper Canyon just north of the railroad tracks.
At sunrise Thursday, sheriff's deputies conducted a house-to-house search of the area and adjacent neighborhoods.  Helicopters started flying again around 8 am.
Gonzalez is a special needs student who went missing the afternoon of April 23 near Sunset High School in … (0 comments)

highland village: Five Things I Learned About Being A Mascot - 12/06/13 12:05 AM
I went out of my comfort zone this year and embraced the fact that I am a card carrying member of the PTA, soccer mom and taxi cab service.  So when the email went out with the charge to the PTA board members to help out for two hours dressed as Clifford the Big Red Dog for the Heritage Elementary students during the Scholastic Book Fair, I went ahead and raised my paw, er, hand.

Don't I look cute and cozy?!  My two hour stint as Clifford was quite fun and rewarding.  Here are five things I learned today that … (7 comments)

highland village: One Day On The Market....EIGHT OFFERS!! - 02/26/13 07:38 AM
I have been telling people for months now that it is a seller's market here in Flower Mound and Highland Village, among other North Texas cities.  I keep preaching that if you are considering selling your home, the time to do it is NOW!  The hottest market right now is under $250,000.
Houses are literally on the market for a matter of hours before they are gone.  My clients submitted an offer sight unseen on a home last night.  They are non-contingent, flexible on close date and ended up changing the offer to full price, no closing costs this morning.  There … (8 comments)

highland village: Get Your Suits Ready, Highland Village Dads! - 01/21/13 07:19 AM
If you are a resident of Highland Village and have a daughter, this is really an event you won't want to miss.

This is my daughter and husband almost a year ago.  She looks totally different in just 11 months!  She has told her daddy that she plans on attending this soiree with him until she is 17 years old.  We will have that on video so she can remember what she said when she wants nothing to do with us!
If you are a resident of Highland Village, TX you can purchase your tickets for $25 each.  Non-residents pay … (0 comments)

highland village: Car Seat Safety - 11/02/12 02:17 PM
Can we all agree that nothing is more important than our children's well-being?  This is my precious daughter Trinity on her way to see The Wiggles.  She's grown out of that car seat and will turn eight in March but she has two younger brothers that are still strapped into these bad boys.

After a series of odd, yet amusing, events, it turns out that the Highland Village Police Department will respond very quickly to a child locked in a car.
DID YOU KNOW:
Those rubber mat seat protectors are not a good idea.  They can compromise the … (0 comments)

highland village: Neighborhood Garage Sale in Highland Village - 10/10/12 10:44 PM

Garage sales can be tricky.  I don't know about you, but if I set out to find something specific at a garage sale, not only do I not find what I am looking for, but I end up getting something that I really don't need!  Insanity!
If this is you, yet you still can't get enough of the thrill of the hunt, head out to Castlewood in Highland Village, Texas for the semi-annual neighborhood garage sale.  Most participants will start at 8 am Saturday, October 13, but a few may be out even earlier.  Since this is a neighborhood with … (1 comments)

highland village: DocuSign Is My Best Friend - 09/05/12 01:04 PM
I remember like it was yesterday.
The first time I used DocuSign was for a property that was on the market for less than 12 hours and already had the rumor of two offers coming in.
It was the 4th of July weekend 2009.  My non-contingent, first time homebuyer knew this house was THE ONE.  Before I went back to my office I told her "I can send this through for you to sign electronically".  Of course the first question was "Huh?"  followed by "Really?"
I firmly believe that the #1 reason my client got that house was because … (7 comments)

highland village: If I'm Arrested For Indecent Exposure... - 08/26/12 01:54 PM
You know that school has started!
I have joked that when all three of my kids are finally on the bus to school, I will run down my street naked.
But until that day comes, this is your friendly reminder that in Highland Village along with most of Texas, school does start tomorrow!
Fresh-faced little ones with new backpacks, pretty ponytails and sparkling clean shoes will be at bus stops and crosswalks all over our neighborhoods.

Remember that it is AGAINST THE LAW to hold your cell phone in school zones.  Even if you are tempted to shoot a video … (3 comments)

highland village: You Can Grow Fruit In Texas! - 06/18/12 01:46 PM
And my son is holding the living proof!

My husband has been cultivating our garden at our home in Highland Village, TX for a few years now and it's not only been a labor of love but it's been fruitful...ha ha ha.
We started with a dwarf orange tree and got a few oranges the first year and then last year, it was pretty much destroyed from our horrendous summer.  Our garden has been a favorite spot for local squirrels and bunnies which is why we have trained our dogs to run out when they hear the code word "McGregor" … (7 comments)

highland village: Huge Population Boom in North Texas - 04/26/12 11:18 PM
But not with people...it's butterflies!

They are EVERYWHERE!  Due to the mild winter we've had here in Highland Village, the butterflies decided not to head south for the winter.  The result?  A huge poplulation of butterflies!  It's so much fun to see, especially with three kids, who delight in the sight of the winged beauties.  And they seem to be less timid this year, landing on arms, heads and even my dog.
So get out and start enjoying the population boom!
