As the temperature start dropping and you consider firing up that heater this winter, look at the air filter to see if it is time to change. It may not look this bad but a clean filter at the beginning of the season can help keep your heating system run well.
The only thing the owner saw was the water damage caused by the cracked drain pipe. There was no way of knowing by looking on the surface what the source of the water was. Opening the wall in the area quickly exposed the problem, the clean-out was cracked. Judging by the damage, it had been a slow leak for some time. Time to make it right!

I have always enjoyed the view from the back of my home, we get to see the sunrise up over the horizon. That view got a lot larger after the removal of a large oak tree that had died and remained standing a few years now.
When the oak was still living, it helped to 'frame in” a beautiful sunrise but that turned to an old lifeless tree that seem to be in the way. This new view will be wide open.
Despite the limited recent rains the blossoms on most of the plants were not bothered by the rain. Though only small amounts of rain were recorded, it it always good to get the precipitation in California. If we can't get the rain, we will at least enjoy the blossoms. (11 comments)

Wood decking can add value and enjoyment to your backyard experience. Maintaining it can extend the life of the wood decking and even hold off the rotting and decay of the wood members. Despite our efforts, wood will one day rot and show itself. If your deck is in need of repair, contact a Placerville local general contractor for help in repairing or replacing your wood deck.

The history of Placerville can be traced back to the Gold Rush Days. This was a time when cowboys, horses and stagecoaches were a part of the dusty trails in the foothills of El Dorado County. While those days are gone, you can still experience a little bit of that time by taking a FREE Stagecoach Ride in Placerville on the third Saturday of the month. Davey Wiser and his crew offer this best kept secret, though he has been doing it on Historic Main Street and other locations in El Dorado (18 comments)
I have been on the run trying to keep up with the calls from water related damages this week. It is what I do as a contractor but the volume can be overwhelming at times. There is not usually any warning because they are emergencies. On each of these calls, it was stressed that one thing is most important right now, Get the area Dry First!
As a AAA Insurance member for nearly 30 years I occasionally have a need to physically go into the office to see my agent. This makes signing forms or turning in paperwork immediately a challenge if the branch offices are far away. Fortunately for me there is an office in Placerville that makes getting in very convenient. But there is more to having AAA in the neighborhood. For years AAA has offered maps at no charge, very convenient for the senior non-internet savvy members. They will plan out an entire road (13 comments)

This past week the decorations throughout the Greenstone Country Community has grown to include the entry gates. Many of the common areas; the clubhouse, barn, etc had been started last weekend. I noticed that the gates had wreaths as I pulled out of Greenstone Country today. I'm still working on getting my lights up at home. (2 comments)
Had To Get A Burn Pile Done In El Dorado County Before The Rains Today
Sure we are in a drought in El Dorado County, so outdoor burns can get a bit scarce in some years. Because of the slight rains of late and the storms that are on the way, I think the burn day schedule opened up. But who wants to burn during the rain?
Burn piles can be a both dangerous and messy if done during the rains. I went out of my way to get this burn going so (12 comments)
While getting some rain today was a good thing, we will be needing a lot more of it better we are out of the current drought that we are in. We should be conscious of our water use and enjoy the sunsets at the end of each day.
It seems that everyone and their brother thinks they can build a deck in El Dorado County. Judging by the decks that I have seen here, most were not done by a licensed contractor. I'm sure that most were by well-intended homeowners thinking that they knew how to build a deck. There is nothing wrong with building your own deck, but you still have to follow the same rules as the licensed contractor. If not, it will one day come up as a problem that will need to (10 comments)
There is a variety of methods for securing deck boards to the joists. Nails were the most common for the longest time; it was easy to do you just needed nails and a hammer. But over time the nails would begin to work their way out and needed to be corrected. Deck builders saw the value in using screws to hold the deck boards in place much more securely. This requires some additional tools but in the long run worth the effort. Recently the deck screws have become even more (13 comments)
I took a while to see the sun this morning, the smoke from the King Fire was very heavy. They say that the cooler weather is helping with the fire, but we are long from being done here. This morning there were hundreds of fire trucks from all over the state preparing to fight the fire, relieving those who fought through the night. Seeing all those vehicles lined up in traffic, in the parking lot, and all those fighters brought the reality of this blaze closer to home.
Whenever anything is mounted to your home, there is a risk of moisture collecting between the two and dry rot and water damage occuring. If possible, creating an air space between the two allows circulation of air and the elimination of debris building up. I looked at this stairway removal and could see that there were water damage that needs to be replace with good wood and siding. This spot is not too bad, things can get a lot worse.
The temperatures have been pretty warm here in Placerville the last few weeks but my wife and I will be getting away to a place that is even hotter. We have been to Palm Desert before and enjoyed our stay there on the golf course. We will be heading down tomorrow for some hot summer days.
