We don't get every siding job that we bid on but we do get our share. Since Tromler Construction is active in many Sacramento apartment community projects, we sometimes get a chance to look at some of the work that others have done. In particular, jobs that we did not get that was completed by another contractor.

I See The Hanging Light, But What About All That Rotted Wood?

Proper lighting around the exterior of an apartment or home is very important. I got a call to take a look at the lighting near the garbage dumpster of an apartment community; the light was falling off.
In looking at an exterior light that was coming down near a garbage dumpster, I couldn’t help but notice that the wood was severely rotted. The rot had been going on for quite some time with no repairs made to correct the problem.

Sometimes you just have to get up close to the damage.

I was called out to look at some wood decking that was showing signs of wood rot this week. While a lot can be seen from the deck top, often times we need to get up close to the underside. Water damage to the joists and deck boards needs to be looked at up close and not from the ground.

Many decks are well off the ground and a ladder is necessary to see it.

Be aware that rotted wood can be hidden for a while.

The rotted wood can be progressing for many years, hidden behind shrubs, covered in paint, or just overlooked. This doesn’t mean that the rot is being intentionally covered up; we just don’t always see it when we have it.
It may be a good idea to actively look for rotted wood. If you do not know what to look for, consider hiring a qualified dry rot repair contractor in your local area.
