siding repair: Yes I Can Replace That Rotted Siding, But What Is Behind It - 12/23/14 03:16 PM

Yes I Can Replace That Rotted Siding,
But I Need To See What Is Behind It

When handling water damage found in the exterior siding on a home, the problem can extend beyond what can be seen during the time of inspection. So the siding replacement, may be a simple task, but the damages that are not yet seen can be a little more complex. Or not! You never know until you get it opened.

If you have several areas where the siding is particularly bad, you may want to open up a section just to just … (14 comments)

siding repair: That Siding Should Lay Flat Against That Sacramento Building - 09/29/14 03:23 PM

That Siding Should Lay Flat Against That Sacramento Building

New siding can really make a home look like new if done by a reputable contractor. In Sacramento today, I came across a wall of relatively new siding that didn't look to good. Siding should lay flat against the building, not lifting up and appear “wavy”. There are a couple of reasons why this has happened on this Sacramento building.
The first issue is outside of the control of the siding installer. The studs were either install out of alignment or the studs have twisted and bowed. This is … (4 comments)

siding repair: This Siding Was Just Too Difficult to Fix By The Last Contractor - 08/31/14 09:31 AM

This Siding Was Just Too Difficult
to Fix By The Last Contractor

Some pieces of siding are clearly more difficult to replace then other pieces. It is the contractor's responsibility to replace all the pieces, even if it is more of a challenge. There are plenty of examples of this out there.
Some buildings have multiple penetrations through it, or the siding is up very high off the ground, or requires some challenging cuts to fit. All of these are possible for a qualified contractor in your area.
Avoiding these pieces is not recommended because things will only … (6 comments)

siding repair: You never know what is behind that bad siding being replaced. - 07/07/14 05:18 PM

You never know what is behind that
bad siding being replaced.

We had a few areas of siding repair to do today on the side of an apartment building. As we pulled off the first piece of lap siding we found a large section of the wall packed with animal droppings. On closer inspection, it turned out to be the droppings of bats. There was quite a bit, we think that a specialist needs to be called on this discovery.

siding repair: Sometimes you have to build it to repair it. - 07/06/14 05:38 AM

Sometimes you have to build it to repair it.

When it comes to siding repair, window replacement, and even painting you have to create a working platform to do the job. Scaffolding is the safest and quickest way to do that. The idea of building something to repair something is something that many do not consider when getting an estimate of costs.

Putting Good Siding Over Bad

We don't get every siding job that we bid on but we do get our share. Since Tromler Construction is active in many Sacramento apartment community projects, we sometimes get a chance to look at some of the work that others have done. In particular, jobs that we did not get that was completed by another contractor.

While working inside a vacant unit, the manager insisted that I look at a leak above the sliding glass door at the back of the unit. We were assured that the leak could … (12 comments)

siding repair: Not All Sacramento Siding Jobs Can Be Done From a Ladder - 04/22/13 01:32 PM

Not All Sacramento Siding Jobs Can Be Done From a Ladder

There are just some siding jobs in Sacramento that need to be done from scaffolding, rather than a ladder. While the cost to rent scaffolding can add to the cost of the siding replacement, it has its benefits. High on the list of benefits is safety. It is much safer to work while standing on scaffolding planks than leaning over a ladder all day.

We will be repairing siding in Rancho Murieta tomorrow.

siding repair: Contractor Can Repair Your Siding, But You Need to Repair the Gutter. - 10/28/12 08:57 PM
A Contractor Can Repair Your Siding,
But You Need to Repair the Gutter.

A benefit of working with a licensed general contractor is the experience he can bring to a needed repair. Too often, a lot of time and money is spent fixing a problem that will likely recur in a few years. This may be the first time a homeowner has seen a problem like this, but the contractor may have dealt with it dozens of times. That’s what you get with hiring the right person.
In this photo, we can see that the siding is bad. The … (25 comments)
